As far as sheer bad ass factor goes, Darth Vader really has nothing on Darth Maul
And we can't forget such classics as Venom, who for some reason always makes me just stare at him while thinking nothing but "that's bad ass"
And finally, Carnage, who was tragically left behind in the Spiderman world, he could have been something truly great, but they went with Venom being the big kahuna instead.
Your argument is like a two legged dog with an eating disorder...weak and unbalanced.
Balor, from Myth: The Fallen Lords. When you find out his dirty little secret late in the game, it's very disturbing. Especially when you start thinking about the implications with Alric standing there.
If you've never played the game I'm sure you have no idea what I'm talking about.
Darth Vader is good, but he's practically a rip-off of Dr. Doom from the Fantastic Four, who is older than Darth. I'll tell ya, Dr. Doom is a pretty good villian in his own right.
The late movie critic, Gene Siskel, called the computer, Hal, from 2001: A Space Odyssey, the greatest villian ever. He is good because he seemed so non-threatening.
Biggest Problem I have with this guy, is that all he can do is twirl that lightsaber around pretty. Where's the lightning? Where's the Throat-Crushing Goodness? The tattoos are only cool for the first twenty minutes, and the horns are cool 'til you consider that they'd be annoying as hell. Compared to Vader, nothing. Hell, at least Vader keeps his Teeth Clean under his suit of pure Badass.
Venom/Carnage I do agree on, though.
We barely remember who or what came before this precious moment; We are choosing to be here right now -Tool, Parabola

He doesn't use lightning or the force choke because he is completely focused on the anger and hatred side of the force. And the tattoos are a tradition of his species (Zabrak) and the horns...well he was born with the horns (Zabrak again)

Seriously (unlike my last post) the best villian in terms of power would certainly be Galactus from the Silver Surfer/Fantastic Four, he eats and destroys entire planets for fun!
OK, yeah, Barry Bonds was something of a joke. ESPN has been driving me nuts with all their tainted tut-tutting over Bonds.
Do you suppose that in 10 years they'll be moaning about Pay-Rod passing Barry?
Down to business:
Darth Vader or Dr Doom. Good question. The parallels between them are not coinidental. Victor von Doom was a very handsome man who played with the universe and the universe bit back, hard. Likewise, Anakin Skywalker did much the same thing, seeking power and in the process becoming not only quite scarred, but actually less powerful.
How about Lord Voldemort?
Cardinal Richelieu (in the Three Musketeers) not exactly a nice guy, either.
I understand the appeal as an ultimate villain that Darth Maul might have, because he's badass, but then again so is a SAW. Maul was essentially a weapon, not a villain the way Sidious was.
Speaking of Lord Voldemort, how about Lord Montymorte? Monty Burns is a great villain! Why, they even play a few bars of Darth Vader's theme when he's onscreen!
CH, Jedi, Commando, Smuggler, BH, Scout, Doctor, Chef, BE...yeah, lots of SWG time invested.
Hmm... Did I miss something, or didn't anybody mention our beloved Dr. Hannibal Lecter? He's calm, calculating, has taste and is a sadistic cannibal serial killer. The doctor gets my vote.
darth vader was very very evil, destroyer of worlds, casual execitioner and the just gushed menace. but, but some thing tragic happened, he became a pod racing dweeb that befriended Jar Jar, and then there was the imaculate conception thing and the pitifull whining and aaarrrggghhhh!!!!111
anyways, movies 1-3 made Vader a pathetic whiny momma's boy with a runny nose that was so pathetic that even when he was on fire, Obi-wan refused to piss on him to put out the fires due to disgust.
Bitter? no, not me.
for true villiany i'll take the character that deluded a good man into believeing that his loving wife was cheating on him and inspiring a jealous rage so that the good man murders his own wife with his own hands. Iago from Shakespears Othello
The Black Knight from Montey Python's In Search of the Holy Grail...that guy was a vicious bad-ass until the very end.

Wow, very nice choice. Iago was definitely a great villain, and the epitome of two-faced evil. His own wife didn't realize just how evil he was, and I believe he truly did it all for the enjoyment. Wow. The greats are great for a reason.

I have a connection to someone else on that show. The guy that played Nathan Petrelli was on another show called Profit that only lasted for 8 episodes. The dude was sick, but fun to watch.
Galactus isn't a villain. He simply is. Guy eats worlds like we eat animals, he isn't doing it to be evil.
Why would Wizard Magazine rate him the 18th greatest villian? He eats planets that only have the potential for life or already have life on it thats evil. The character was created as the antagonist for the Fantastic Four. If you find yourself fighting the Fantastic Four for ANY reason your evil.

yeah, the greats are great for a reason, i love the very personal nature of this evil, the real intimacy of the suffering that othello has on finding out that the woman he loves, and he murders was not only innocent of the betrayal she was accused of but also loved him dearly. So Othello realises that it is himself that betrayed the greatest trust that one has in another.
to set out to and to destroy a man using the tool of his own love, brilliant.

Easy! Captain Planet hands down no contest.
On Time? On Target? Never Quit?
Barry Bonds.

Good one Sio, on the Barry Bonds answer.
Venom/Carnage I do agree on, though.

But since my answer wasnt valid id probably go with ... hmmm ... yea darth vader seems pretty badass

But for looks and badass. . . ness Venom would take my cake.

THE TOMATO IS NOT A FRUIT, DAMN IT!!!
The main character in the game "Assassin's Creed".
Galactus isn't a villain. He simply is. Guy eats worlds like we eat animals, he isn't doing it to be evil.
From the Marvel universe it would either be 3 guys that pop up Magneto, Venom, Dr. Doom
DC universe......who cares
The Violator Clown from Spawn is probably one of the funniest and mean villains ever
Freddy Krueger FTW
Darth Vader is just a badass, sure an old fart in a life support suit badass but still
Pinhead is one of the baddest looking villains also
darth vader was very very evil, destroyer of worlds, casual execitioner and the just gushed menace. but, but some thing tragic happened, he became a pod racing dweeb that befriended Jar Jar, and then there was the imaculate conception thing and the pitifull whining and aaarrrggghhhh!!!!111

erm......................................................................................................... Darth Vader like everyone else.
?
The Black Knight from Montey Python's In Search of the Holy Grail...that guy was a vicious bad-ass until the very end.

Darth Vader ended up a good guy in the end. How bad can you be when you die redeeming yourself?
Real evil guy: C. Montgomery Burns.
"Ahoy, ahoy"

Lots of choices but I will have to say.
Anubis from stargate sg1.
That was one really twisted character.

I'd say any of the main villians from dragonball z would be pretty good.
