Note: Don't turn this into a flame fest, I want to know people's actual opinion on this because it's something that just happened to me today at work.

So, this lady comes around with this paper asking people to sign and donate money.  She says it's for some walk-a-thon thingy and she's preggers and going to go walk it.  I'm figuring it's to cure cancer or something, but no, it's for the negro college fund.

I'm no racist, and that's actually why this is a problem for me.  Today, blacks are no worse off than whites, asians, latinos, or anyone else.  If people want to be equal, they can go ahead and be equal.  So why is there still a negro college fund?

You can't have a caucasian college fund, that's racist.  I didn't get jack from scholarships to go to school because I'm a middle class white guy.  Could my family afford to pay for my school? No.  But because I'm a middle class white guy, there are no scholarships and grants available. 

Sure I could have gotten money from good grades in high school and all that, but the problem is, I'm dead on average in that too.

What do you guys think?  I think it's wrong she pressured people in the office to give to that cause.

Here in the military that is against regulations.  IT is just poor form as well to pressure people at work to donate money. 

If I was you I would complain to your HR office and say that she made you feel very uncomfortable about it.  It can be considered harassment.

On a lighter note, I have contacted them before about interest in funding my education. They explained the whole ordeal on what you need to do, how much you can get, etc. Then, I said as nicely and calmly as I could "Will it affect my eligibilty because I am white?" Dead silence. Then, the person proceeds to yell and chastise me and call me racist for even thinking I could get money and that "this is a sick joke". I said "No, I am not trying to make a joke. I am interested in money for my education. Are you saying your discriminating against me because I am white?"

But why is that not racist, when a whites only scholarship is?  That's my whole beef with it.  If every race could have a scholarship, then that's fine (but still iffy, i think it's best to get rid of race based scholarships and move on), but not every race can.

i believe the UNCF has limiting financial qualifications.

While I do disagree with her asking coworkers to donate.  Especially if you felt pressured. I do not believe that the UNCF is racist.  If I was rich I could create a scholorship to benefit who ever I wanted.  IT is within our rights to do so.  I could create a Scholorship that could only be given to women with Blonde hair (I love blondes) and large chests ( I love big chests as well).  It couldn't be discriminatory because there is no regulation against it.  The Law can't make me give my money to everyone equally.

Yes it could. Sure, it may not be discriminatory as per equal opportunity laws, but it is still discriminatory. And I remember applying for a minority scholarship for people with blonde hair/blue eyes (because we are a minority ). Many people cried foul it was discriminatory. I work at a college. On campus there are black/hispanic/asian/etc. clubs. A student petitioned for a White Student Association club. It was deemed by the administration and the other ethnic student clubs as racist and was shot down.

That is only because the Administration gave into public sentiment. But it isn't actually illegal.  No one wants to rock the boat and unfortunately right now Political correctness is one sided and against White people, especially White Males from Middle to Upper class families.

Riki, there's really no reason for it anymore.

The way that the financial aid system is set up in this country, everyone is just as eligible as everyone else to get financial aid loans.  A black kid can apply and get accepted into a University, go to that Universities financial aid department, and walk away with a student loan to pay for his tuition.

The problem I see with this is it sets kids up to get into a victim mentality.  There may have been a time when this was needed, but it's not today.  And for someone to see this and think that it is needed shows how that person has allowed themselves to be perceived as a victim.

Let me ask you this question, Riki.  When do think this Negro College Fund will not be needed?  Do you think it is not needed the day that a black kid is just as likely to get financial aid as a white kid or mexican kid?  Well, if that's the case, then that day is here.

Personally, my parents did not have the money to pay for my college.  I worked full time and paid for my own classes.  I would have liked to have gone to a nicer college, but you do what you gotta do.  It's workable if you just do the work.  You'd be surprised how many students work their way through college.  Not everyone is a rich white kid who spends all college partying and studying with a hangover.

And also, if there were a Caucasian College Fund, I wouldn't take part in it.  I've got a little too much pride for that kind of garbage.  I like to think I did it all on my own.  Even if my piece of paper isn't from some ritzy college, at least it's one that I got all by myself.

So you are saying, if I became a billionaire and I decided, "hey i want to help my fellow white man", and i went out and made the "caucasion college fund"  no person of African American ethnicity would sue the pants off of me? You are far from reality, sadly, what you are saying is theoretically how our country is supposed to work but it does not really work that way, even if you made one for "large chested blonde haired females" you would have a lawsuit, saying it isnt fair to 1.) women who arent able to have blonde hair naturally or dont have big breasts., the sad thing is that while you would win this lawsuit unless the judge was a whacko, it would still cost you money to go to court, hire a lawyer, and when enough people do it...it really puts a dent in your money, for instance kind of something to do with college grants just me looking around i found...

I forget the exact number but something like 75 or 80% of people that attend Harvard are getting aid to pay for their college.

Im not trying to sound like a dick or anything but because its not fair, i mean seriously like many people have said many times before how come theres no WET channel no exclusively white magazines and such? because we'd get sued for discrimination, and dont deny it.  Also want to link us to some of the research your reading because i cant find anything that justifies this.  In this country the minorities are everything and the majority is just here to make sure the minority suceeds in life.

Compare the amount of shows with mostly white people in them and the ones with mostly black then look at how integrated the black and white population are then you  may have a clue as to why.

 

 

Like what ... 80+ % of TV shows are  WET  just like the society leans towars  whites, you are the majority in numbers and power, when the white race get ass rape and there numbers deplete you will more than  likely will get similar treatment as other minorities.

It's ridiculous. My family consisted of poor European immigrants that hadn't even made it to America until the 1900's and never owned African slaves: I don't have any white guilt, nor do I think that African Americans are entitled to anymore than anybody else.

Should I suddenly start asking every black guy I see for reparations, because a store that my family owned was held up by blacks?

I'd like to see how far I'd get without getting a lawsuit or killed.

I really feel sorry for the African Americans that work hard and become successful in life, because they are subject to unjust generalizations; however, the rest of the African American community needs to start shaping up.

Where I am currently living most of the crime is perpetrated by blacks: It has gotten so bad that I won't even open the front door anymore if I see that it's a black man that I don't know knocking.

While I realize that not all blacks are bad and can be wonderful human beings like anybody else, the African American communities in America are just filled with criminal violence.

I've even met brilliant black Africans (since some of the native born are of Dutch descent) with PhD's in mathematics and they want nothing to do with the average African American.

Can anybody remember that episode of the Boondocks where MLK Jr. is revived? He ends up castigating modern blacks and calling them the N word and I think that the character was justified in doing so: The freedom that the ancestors of many modern African Americans had fought so long to attain is being squandered and misused.

Whew.. that clears up alot for me... From now on I wont donate to Breast Cancer research.. you know.. since they aren't any worse off than other types of cancer... especially since I'm a guy.. and I never see guys in the commercials for breast cancer... so Screw the breast cancer foundation for wanting to help others... I'm not going to give a CENT because of my own selfish demands upon American society..

Donations shouldn't go to one particular kind of cancer, but ALL cancer.
