Seems SWG is increasing their dev crew ?
I see them advertising for new programers. Anyone that can shed some light on the subject ?
( And please NO FLAMING in this thread, if you flame i will report you. And please do not post the ussual crap about SWG dying etc unless you have solid evidence. I have heard it all before. Also i play the game and altho it not exactly in the top 5 it is still active and an enjoyable game, and they would not be hiring if things were not going so well. )

Well I sure hope so... It would be really cool if SOE would spend some serious dough on making this game great again. Fix the bugs, introduce content. That is all it takes. They could do that if they wanted to. The question is: Do they want to repair their bruished reputation or not??

I guess there's not too much to say...other then that Dev teams aren't usually increased for a dying game
The only way to know is to see if the same names continue to post and you see new names post.
If it truly was dieing, they wouldn't be replacing staff...
Could be, It Seems that some of the gamers out there are so tired of the new breed of games, they're revisiting older games and finding them to be as good or better. Me I tried swg, no complaints, now I've backed all the way up to AC and having a ball.
I have to say I had more fun playing swg and now Ac than i did playing the last few new games that have come out.
older the better with PRE CU as the best state of SWG

$OE - eternal enemy of online gaming
-We finally WON !!!! 2011 $OE accepted that they have been fired 2005 by the playerbase and closed down ridiculous NGE !!
"There was suppression of speech and all kinds of things between disturbing and fascistic." Raph Koster (parted $OE)
This market is becoming saturated quite rapidly, and therefore originality and innovation is needed to secure a steady and loyal player base.
We need real choices, and not just the same gameplay wrapped up in a new skin.
It's also possible and more likely that they are replacing a developer who either left or was fired? Having logged on very recently it's pretty clear the population is still very small.
I will agree with the market being saturated. There are some new games coming out though that should help out like PoTBS, AoC, WAR, etc, etc.
Well that was my initial thought as well. But they stated clearly in plural that they are hiring new programers.
The problem is that they are not releasing stats on their player base. and it is really hard to guess how many people are playing because the SWG universe is so massive. I must say that the population has probly doubled to what it was last year, and most of the recent posts towards the game have been alot more possitive. So from my perspective things are going better. It makes sense that they would be hiring again, i was just wondering if anyone had more info about it ?
And just btw :
I left WoW along time ago, before the expansion even, back in the days when wow was still great and not the piece of crap they have turned it into. Anyway, i logged back in a few weeks ago and was shocked to see how the population has dropped. places like goldshire and redridge were virtually deserted and i tested on a few realms ( I have 24 level 60's ), it was really shocking to see so little people in the game, kinda makes swg not look so bad when comparing them.
I also noticed that SWG has climbed the ladder on the game list. i remember it used to be near the bottom when i last checked, now it is sitting around about in the middle somewhere. So either it has gotten better revues, or games above it have had some bad ones and dropped below SWG. Either way, it is not looking so bad for them.
And i must say, i have been very impressed with the last few publishes from SOE, they have really boosted the game in more ways than one. a few more good publishes like that and the game will definitely be in great form, possibly the best it has ever been.
Problem is with WOW no one wants to roll alts and most of the player base is 50+, lots to do at 70 for a while, then they log in do dailies, raid and log off. I wish SWG would pick back up and be the bustling community it used to be 6 months after release, I loved that game. But the universe being so big with endless planets and space and all that stuff, you could go a long while now days w/o seeing a single person. I hope they do something about it though. Hell DAOC came out with a classic server and its the most populated server in the list. Not sure why they cant make a pre CU and NGE server with all these new programmers.
<wishes nostalgically for good old days of SWG in hopes of its return>
----------------------
Played (In order of favorite first to least): DAOC, EQ2, EVE, WOW, Vanguard, AC2, City of __, Guild Wars, LOTRO, EQ, Sword of New World, FFXI, Lineage 2, Second Life, DDO, Anarchy Online, RF Online, Archlord, Uru, Ragnarok Online, Shadowbane, Planetside, Auto Assault, Ryzom, Matrix Online, Horizons, Entropia, Sims, Runescape, Lineage 1, AC1, Dungeon Runners
And as for the gameslist... SWG userrating is 6.4, ye its up abit from 6.1 if I remember correctly... but SWG now being in the middle of the list is probably more due to all the really really sucky games released lately.
And yes the latest publishes are really impressing... especially considering those changes that are back from pre-CU (on "public demand"?) and making the game fun again. The devs are so inspired
There are ppl who enjoy the game, and that's all good. These ppl are not as many as the fanbois wish (or the devs for that matter) but they are probably not as few as the haters claim either. If you like it, fine. Enjoy it while it lasts. Game is surely not dying, but will never reach peak subs again for obvious reasons. I wasnt gonna say anything coz I dont like busting your thread, but posting things like 'quoted' just makes me go uhm... right
WTF? Do you have a life? Or are you one of those people who pay others to play the game for them?
LOL
WTF? Do you have a life? Or are you one of those people who pay others to play the game for them?
Lol. you clearly don't know who i am. and yes i leveled them all myself, from 1 - 60 all the way. and that is only one account, i have 3 accounts in total, two on US, and one on EU.
But that is off topic and besides the point. the topic is about swg.
I find it odd that i was the only one that noticed the advertisment that soe put up for more SWG developers, did no one else see it ??
They want everyone to know that the game is not all that good since they refuse to play it.When told that not only are people playing it but having a good time they will respond with supposed #'s proving otherwise.
They insult the devs and Smedly on a personal level and then ask to have the servers rolled back.Gee i wonder why this hasnt happened yet?
They also cannot stand that people actually like to play SOE games either.
Start a thread about an SOE game and it will be hijacked by the SOE haters.
What is your physical limit?
SOE has been putting up request for new staffing positions since before SWG went live and has continued to do so. This does not indicate a comeback. One example, people need to be promoted and raises earned, thus to be transfered to other or new projects while lower paid positions can open up again.
And that is why...
Conservatives' pessimism is conducive to their happiness in three ways. First, they are rarely surprised -- they are right more often than not about the course of events. Second, when they are wrong they are happy to be so. Third, because pessimistic conservatives put not their faith in princes -- government -- they accept that happiness is a function of fending for oneself. They believe that happiness is an activity -- it is inseparable from the pursuit of happiness.
IT FINALY MAKES SENSE! SOE released Vanguard in such a terrible condition so that SWG would look mildly playable in comparison!
and you got this information from where ?
I have been playing SWG for a long, long, long, long time. and this is the first time i have seen a add on the game interface. i know they have recruited in the past, but that was so long ago that it feels like a lifetime ago. this add is clearly not the one you speaking about.

Hijacked? Well if 'someone' makes a post stating that SWG is doing fine sub-wise compared to WoW, then what can I tell ya...
ok please stop saying that i am compairing it to wow...
All i was saying that when i logged into wow for the first time in a long time, it felt like a ghost town compared to what it was. Last i played wow was so full you could hardly move. I dared not go to stormwind or ironforge if i could help it because of the bad lag. the place was so packed. now it is dead. so when i logged in it felt much like swg has been feeling, hence the comment that swg does not seem so bad now that i have seen what wow has become, atleast swg is still fun to play, wow is not, not for me anymore anyway.
The difference is... in WoW most ppl are in Outland, and Shatt'rath instead of IF/SW, might be a reason why you dont see any ppl, dunno if you got BC or not
In SWG however, fanbois want to make you believe that all players are (supposedly) in some obscure place where nobody can see them, and they cant be accounted for in any way
No but seriously, nobody is trashing you for liking SWG. Hell if you're into StarWars this is the game for you. And it's not all bad actually so chances are ppl might like it even if they dont like StarWars much... maybe they're into Sci-fi in general or whatever reason for ppl to try SWG.
What I AM saying is SWG is not a GREAT game. Its just not. If it was a great game combined with such a huge name (starwars is huge after all) aloooot of ppl would be playing it. I know its a matter of opinion largely and there are alot of ppl who like it ofc (then again, even games like D&DO have subscribers) but at some point you gotta ask yourself why there arent more players
And its not like only a few ppl tried it and the rest are in the dark not knowing what a great game is out there... no. SWG at peak had maybe 400k subscibers, and around 80% left... coz its not a great game atm.
For teh fanbois: SWG isnt dying. Its understandable if you like it, and you should be bothered really what others think.
Star Wars is what you make of it. If you enjoy it, its a great game. If you hate it, then its just your personally opinion agreeing with others that see the game as you see it as well as the people that love it.
Yeah it isnt Pre Cu, but its a hell of alot better than it was when NGE came into the picture. To me rating a game is definetly personally, even when it comes down to the critics and critics have been wrong before. People love numbers? Why? Who cares anyways.. If you need numbers to tell you how good a game is, then i guess you need people to guide you thru games that you will like. I never take this approach, cause there are plenty of games out there that people think are the best next to slice bread which I totally disagree with.
As I stated in the past, another mans garbage is another mans treasure. Now which guy are you, is totally up to you.

I am just curious, and on a serious note here HP, how is it better than it was? It feels the same to me aside from BM, which I have actually played a CH and BM isn't as good, not by a long shot. I've also played WoW and it is strangely similar to their pet system, as are most of the SWG systems now...
I keep hearing from a certain select few of you that it is a lot better now... But what is better about it? It plays almost the same... The combat is still jacked. I still see bugs, and now my Smuggler is getting wiped out by Swoops.
Not that long ago I was playing WoW. Comparing SWG to WoW using a population-basis is ridiculous. I am getting the feeling you are planted here by SOE to give the wrong impression of SWG coming back... The servers are still pretty low, just log on and see.

Oh noes, Avebethos played the "you're a shill" card I find it rather funny when people do this, it's like their last resortSWG isn't dieing, and since it's seeing more people starting to play, that means it's making a comeback - which is another way of saying it's population is increasing.
Really though, what's the point of a population debate. It's unlikely that anyone here in this thread will suddenly change their opinion on the game after it.

Agreed, we have no way of winning this debate, regardless of which side you're on.
