Developers, community, staff, friends, enemies, and the rest of us,

We are casual players that enjoy in-depth immersion.  Think EQ 1 classic and Kunark without frustrations.  The "extreme" and the "hardcore" have left, gone and are playing Madden on the Xbox or WoW to zerg.  The more "sophisticated" or if you prefer "serious" MMORPG player have been waiting for an EQ 1 or UO experience with no bull-sh^t.  To be simple about it, we want to have fun when returning home from work, college, or an intensive study period in a library.  We want to have fun after watching our kids for five hours and only have three hours to spare on Saturday night.

But! we do not want to, per se, play with children.  We do not, per se, want a WoW experience.  Let the Asians have it and Euro and American teens.  We want something deeper.  Something that grabs you by your collar (demonstrates, with both arms, grabbing his collared shirt).  We want it.  An EQ 1 with no EQ 1 bull sh&t.  I found it in EQ 2.  Have you?

I don't mind playing with nkids in an FPS or MMO, aslong as I can own them in PvP and I don't have to listen to their squeaky voices on Vent or TS. That's the thing that annoys me about playing with kids, when they come on Vent or TS and I hear a high pitched squeak that's meant to be communication. I end up having to put them on ignore, not because they have nothing worthwhile to say but because the pitch of that pre-pubescant voice makes me grind my teeth and I can't concentrate.

No problem with kids, but wait until your balls drop before you speak on vent lads, ok?

Ive yet to find it. I found it in FF11 for awhile of all games (when it first came out). Thought maybe Vanguard would give a new yet familiar awesome experience, but it failed on so many lvls. Ive thought to myself several times over the past year maybe im just not into the whole mmo thing anymore which is horse ****.  I just cant seem to find anything entertaining. Heres to the future of MMORPGs.....

Oh and one thing I have to disagree on, Madden is not hardcore.....

    P L E A S E STOP forcing us to use vent.

In my Vanguard guild, literally when I log in I am asked if I have got a mic.  I do not want to listen to YOU.  I really do not.  I want to come home from work or school and just play a game. I do NOT want to listen to YOU.  It is not personal or offensive.  I want to listen to my music or the music and sounds in the game.

Point to fact, when I was a Raid Officer in EQ 1, when no one was raiding the old raid zones, I manged quite well without vent.

Vent is  N O T necessary. Do not use it.  Many of us hate, resent, loathe it. We still want to play a "game." Yes.  Let's get down to the very basics of it. A game.  Vent is too personal, too annoying.  It is too personal. I just want to play a game.

    A game.

Edit:  I was a Guild Leader in EQ 1 and managed successfully without vent.

I dont get all this Vent craze?

In LOTRO (on roleplay server) apsolutely no one is using mic comunication , it is completely shunned

My guild uses Teamspeak because we hate typing. It's just easier for us to chat it away. We are a smaller guild though and we've been together since 98 so that may have something to do with it. I don't see why people have a problem with it. If you don't like it, don't use it. It's simple. If you just joined a guild that requires it, leave. They aren't the only guild in the game.

I've never understood the vent hate.  If you don't like vent don't use it, and don't join guilds where it's required.  If you're trying to get into some pickup group and they want to you to use vent, pass on it and get a different one.  Nobody is forcing you to do anything.

Can we all get along now?

Same goes for the mmo's as well. You don't like it , don't play.... it's that simple.

People are " successful " in many games without vent but even in EQ1, the top guilds used Vent, back then it was Roger Wilco , but yes they still used it. It's fairly apparent to me if the top players/guilds in EVERY SINGLE mmorpg used voice chat, then it must be necessary.

Yeah, I don't want to be social in a MMORPG either.

When ever I'm not raiding I listen to my own music player aswell, but when I'm raiding I turn it off, and get social to get the most out of the game.

MMORPGs are a dying breed and only a place people go on to waste some time. Everyone hops from one game to another over and over. If something big doesn't change MMORPGs will become more unpopular in the future. The real market in American and Europe is console online play instead of computer games.

Good riddance to the industry. Its not the player base that ruined the genre. Its the companies making the games. I havent seen a decent game since EQ1. And here it is almost 10 years after its initial release and what leaps have MMO's made?

The guild that I am in requires all to be 18+ and come on vent to get to know us before they join. They are made aware that it is 18+ only and that vent is required and also that they do have to play with us talk and get to know us before joining.

We are never short of people wanting to join and we do work good together and this group of guys I play with beats any other guild I have been in for maturity and fun no bitching or squeeky voices.

I have 1 son and another on the way I don't get alot of time to play but still when I do its good fun. I think it depends on the guild you join and the game you play. Take WoW for example lots of kids most guild have kids in it that annoy the crap out of me personally. But then you go play WW2 online and you find most are mature and adults.

End of the day its down to the guild you join some are good and right for you. Some are rubbish and totally not right for you :)

Vent is not a necessary item.  It is a tool of the lazy honestly.  It isn't hard to type and fight at the same time.  Especially if you can type fast and not have to use two fingers and look at every key when you are typing.

Ventrillo can add to the game for some people, but it significantly removes any RPing aspect from MMORPGs.

lol forcing you to use voip....

How about forcing me to type and not play? You can talk, press keys, and listen at the same time, more easily than pressing keys, typing, and reading

I'm glad most people require that you use voip to play with them, it eliminates the adult audience. I can honestly say I disrespect heavily anyone who has a family and is still playing computer games.

btw get a life, you aren't young anymore go to the old people hangouts (bob evans restaurants, wal-mart, senior centers, bingo night) and talk about your youth while applying bengay to your sensitive areas

Hate to break it to you, but Video games aren't for you.  More adult women play video games then Boys under the age 18.

Thirty-eight percent of all game players are women. In fact, women over the age of 18 represent a significantly greater portion of the game-playing population (31%) than boys age 17 or younger (20%).

The average game player is 33 years old and has been playing games for 12 years.

Sixty-seven percent of American heads of households play computer and video games.

In 2007, 24 percent of Americans over the age of 50 played video games, an increase from nine percent in 1999.

Looks like another "Adults" bashing on kids using Vent thread ...

And as for what the OP even tried to communicate on his first post ... as the Geiko Caveman would say ... "What?"

  • XTinTioNXTinTioN Member Posts: 205

Im always at Teamspeak with my friends when im playing, but not with unknown people or even foreign.....im TS im just with my RL friends when we play something together or something....its better cuz we can do many things at the same time in the game and at the same time speak so...and its faster to speak like: LOOK PK BEHIND YOU....than writing it down..

I really dont understand the point of these threads, this is so lame that we wonder to ourselves: wtf does he want us to say?

Because the Vent thing or TS....????? dont really get it because...if you dont like vent or ts....dont use them...simple as that...

    whatever

xbox 360 is fun, fun, fun but I also like EVE where many are mature and only the leads are allowed to speak during the ops

    Yanno, I can agree...

I started my reign of MMO's back when UO came out, I was 15... now I'm older, and I've got a life. Alot of us from the pre-WoW generation have grown up now. I can't dedicate 30 hours a week anymore like I used to. Sure I wish I still could, but I can't.

But I think the problem here is not the time it takes to level. I think the problem is the whole "end game is when the game really starts"

That whole philosophy brought on accidently by SOE devs back in the day has really made for some crappy games. When players in EQ started raiding, the devs didn't really know how to react. And now... after many years, it's just become worse. I like raids just as much as the next guy, but I hate having to pull all nighters just to be able to catch up with my guild so I can raid with them.

In UO and EQ1 I was very relaxed, I had goals to get to max level, but was not in a hurry. I took my time and had fun and made alot of friends. It wasn't until raiding became the mainstay of the game that I felt like I NEEDED to level. I liked that at first, but as time went by I kept saying to everyone how much I missed just chillin somewhere and having fun.

Keep the time to level the same, but make the games be more about the game, and less about raiding.

And I'm not saying do away with raids all together... just don't make it a feature. Make people come up with there own raids. Like when my guild in UO took 20 of us down into Despair. Or when the 90 level 1 gnomes in EQ took out Emporer Crush. THOSE are raids.
