It's begun already for SMT and it's known as IMAGINE Online in Japan...The issue now is whether Atlus USA has any plans being made to get an English version done. Judging by the forums, the reception aren't exactly that encouraging so to speak. More deets here if you just wanna head on to try that 1out, courtesy of Welles.

Oh yeah now i know this is a bit off topic since its not an IP, but id like to see a game that starts in the stone age, and technology advances through the players.. doing research, discovering things etc... up until some some futuristic point determined by the devs.. they could even throw in major world events, like an "end of the world" type of war, and it goes from sci-fi to post apocalyptic.. different places in the game could play differently,  like one place be european middle ages, while far, far away would be like ancient china.. and the game would have to be set up too so that these two places were incredibly far apart, and maybe no super fast travel system( until modern). i know all this would take an inredible amount of work, and probably wouldnt happen, but it would be fun.. oh and have different servers at different points in the timelines

This is an incredible idea (MMO Civilization!) but I have no idea how they'd pull it off.  MMOs have persistent worlds.  Allowing players to have this kind of impact would require a GM/Dev team of extraordinary talent and commitment...becaue the world could not be persistent at all...it would evolve.  It would also be an MMO with a designed ending.  From a business perspective, this is very radical indeed.  Perhaps it could run in cycles?  Over say a five year period, the game moves from the stone age to the space age, then, once you get to Alpha Centauri, the entire game rerolls back to the stone age and it starts all over again?

I can't see something this radical every being financed, either.

CH, Jedi, Commando, Smuggler, BH, Scout, Doctor, Chef, BE...yeah, lots of SWG time invested.

    equalibrium,

    A proper final fantasy

Pokemon - pokemon has so much mmo potential.(actually surprised nintendo hasnt made a pokemon mmo)

    Digimon - Same as pokemon

.Hack - Cmon, its an anime based on playing a MMO...

    Gundam series

i heard marvel is making an mmo, but the marvl universe is something i would play, only city ofheroes out there right now.

A callaboration like Disney or nintendo mmo, think kingdom hearts, basically an mmo spanned across all the disney worlds, unique intertined IP, same can go for nintendo games, smash brothers touched the idea of intertwining the nintendo verses, it could expand from there.

not quite correct the reinvisioning of World of Darkness will be a mmo as far as I know it will be Vampire: The Requirem not Masquerade. They relaunched the series a few years ago I think it was not long after bloodlines and I think in the game theres an ad for bloodlines on a poster or something. Vampire: The Requirem has alot of stuff missing for fans of vampire the masquerade but the person who liked Bloodlines they may not get affected that much since most of the clans from that game made it into Requirem I believe. I still wish Lasombra would get properly translated into a game and the original struggle betweem cammies and sabbat instead of the convenants which could of just been added to. I still hope they do Exalted instead cause currently exalted is selling more then the New World Of Darkness and I feel the anime mmorpg hasn't gotten proper love.

As for Megaten Online I would play it if they translated the core game client, into english and everythng else besides the players. I'd play next to japanese people even if I didn't know what the hell they just said.

No more IP's need to be done. Why? Because to many people have different ideas about how the game should be. I would much prefer to see an original game rather than one based on an existing IP.

28 Days Later, or any old Zombie movie. Because everybody knows that the only thing cooler that a zombie, it a zombie pirate. Not too sure that there are any of those kind of  IPs.

1.) Dune - A given being how great the books were.

2.) Neromancer / Count Zero - The world created by the author who coined the term cyberpunk William Gibson.

3.) Warhammer 40,000k - This one is in the works and hopefully it will stick closer to the IP then WAR does.

4.) Vampire the Masquerade: Bloodlines - Loved the single player CRPG game and wanted more !

5.) Any IP that contains a solid old western theme from a book.

6.) Fallout - The world from the old Fallout 1-2 games.

7.) Planet of the Apes - I can see a lot of potential from this one if done correctly.

8.) BattleTech/Mechwarrior - This one has almost as much depth and lore if not more so then Warhammer 40,000k.

That's all I can think of from the top of my head that I would love to see done correctly and as a MMO.

Games I've played/tried out:WAR, LOTRO, Tabula Rasa, AoC, EQ1, EQ2, WoW, Vangaurd, FFXI, D&DO, Lineage 2, Saga Of Ryzom, EvE Online, DAoC, Guild Wars,Star Wars Galaxies, Hell Gate London, Auto Assault, Grando Espada ( AKA SoTNW ), Archlord, CoV/H, Star Trek Online, APB, Champions Online, FFXIV, Rift Online, GW2.

    Game(s) I Am Currently Playing:

    GW2 (+LoL and BF3)

Lol, Bushido Blade online. Pure combat style. No questing as we know it today. Sack towns (outside of safe zones). Kill off NPC's permanently(others move in and rebuild to take their place). Constant war. Take hit's. Hits on mobs who actually move from town to town. World and structured pvp.

Mobs also sack towns. Outside of safezones is total war amongst the player base. Something really crazy.

Dinosaur Beach by Keith Laumer. The best fast paced time travel novel ever written. Packed with ideas that would do excellent in a mmorpg.

No not really as if they gave the players the right tools they could evolve it themselves. Have it so that player made cities and settlements could not only be built but destroyed as well. This could be through warfare, old age or just tearing something down because technology had advanced beyond it being useful anymore. Also if they added new servers periodically they could reset older servers after say 5 years when they become so advanced there is nothing left to do. They could also offer players that stuck it out for the whole 5 years either transfers to other servers where they  wouldn't be out of place or give them incentives to start their characters a new on the current server like vet benefits from other games. With the servers staggered in this way new players could choose what point in history they could join the game. This is an outstanding idea!

Im late to the topic but im going to reply anyway.

    1. Shadowrun

    2. I would love to see a good D&D game based off Forgotten Realms (how can you not make a good D&D game???)

    3. Wheel of time would be cool because i love the series but i think it would be very hard. Not impossible but very hard to make well.

    4. Here is the best idea though. Have a world created by R.A. Salvatore and the artwork created by the guy who did Spawn. Now that could be really cool.

And for those that are saying that there are too many Fantasy MMOs, you are wrong. There are just too many crappy fantasy MMOs. We can always use more good ones.

I'm suprised other people have mentioned it , but I'd have to agree with Rift's MMO.  There is a lot of source material / content for a company to work from and the setting is a blend of fantasy and sci-fi (it also has the benefit of being more of a PG-13 / mature type setting).  While I'm not certain if I would want a linear or sandbox style game (probably a hybrid of some type) it would definately have to have pvp (FFA pvp in some area's).  For those who are unfamiliar with Rifts..

(Following is taken from there web site) "The concept is simple and provocative . . .

Sometime in Earth's future, after a Golden Age of peace and technological advancement, the face of the planet is decimated by the return of magic and the Coming of the Rifts. Cities fall, civilization collapses, billions of people perish, and portals to a thousand alien worlds open across the face of the planet.

The story of Rifts® picks up 300 years later. Humankind has, at last, crawled out of a 200 year long Dark Age to reassert itself in the world. Only this world – Rifts Earth – is as strange as any alien planet. Reshaped by dimensional energies, inhabited by alien beings and changed by magic from the Rifts, humankind must learn to adapt to this strange new world.

The Rifts are tears in the fabric of space and time. They are found along ley lines – natural lines of mystic energy. Where two or more ley lines intersect, a Rift may form (or be opened) to create a dimensional portal to virtually anywhere and anywhen. Opening a Rift enables characters to travel from one end of the planet to the other in a heartbeat, and beyond, to an infinite number of alien worlds and dimensions.

The problem is hundreds, perhaps thousands, of alien, demonic, magical and superhuman beings have used the Rifts to cross into Earth. Wondrous and monstrous creatures reside alongside humans and often compete for dominance over the land and its people.

The Earth has become a place of contradiction and infinite possibilities. Alien and supernatural beings roam the planet. Ancient gods, vampires, faeries, dragons, and alien monstrosities co-exist with human cyborgs, androids, giant robots, high-tech mercenaries and dimensional raiders. Creatures of myth and legend, demons and aliens visit regularly. Some use magic to bolster their already formidable powers, while humans augment themselves with nano-implants, bionics, power armor, chemical enhancement, magic and alien technologies in an ongoing battle of survival."

    FYI

Todd McFarlane, RA Salvatore, and Curt Schilling are principles in a new company that will design MMOs.  The company's name is 38 Studios.

If RA Salvatore is designing, it will have a great storyline.

  • DCTitanDCTitan Member Posts: 88

It isn't a specific setting (Perhaps a Legend of the Five Rings) but I do wish that a western company would tackle a sandbox pvp feudal Japan type of setting (Samurai, Ninja, Ronin,  Yakuza, Monks (Sohei), etc. kind of stuff).  As I absolutely hate the artwork that the Japanese / Koreans seem to love (why they like that anime, manga, light colored / happy bunny crap is beyond me) so it would probably have to be made by a western company (more realistic, darker, gritter).

Hmm well just read all the posts and there are some great suggestions for great games but maybe not great MMOs.  I loved B5 and was sad when they cancled the B5 (MP) game. If you could play as both alliance and shadow it would make for an intresting MMO.

On the cathulu...  err... if you ever played the P&P game well then you know that you will go crazy..  no one survives in the end, so a MMO? Please explain how it could be done as it is an intresting concept.

I have been looking for a mechWarror/BT MMO for years, am hoping that the "Force of Arms" MMO will be close enough.

Freelancer, I was looking for that when I found EVE and No EVE is not a passable freelancer theme game. A MMO freelancer game would be easy to do which would sorta like EVE but done right. There are simular games out but so far none come close the "feel" freelancer  had.

The game I have been searching for is a MMO ShadowRUN. The sad thing is, you could almost use the Sword of the New World game engine and recreate a modern version of the sega classic and that alone would be enough but a FP/3Pov that let you be an actually runner.... Chummers all i have to say is it would be the last game i sub.

Rifts MMO...    I can not imagine anyone ever building it because it would offer too much..  Seriously you could be an UN-dead cyborg dryad driving a summoner (mech).   Heck most people would spend the first couple of weeks of the game just rolling their Avatars and tweeking their specs.
