http://www.gametrailers.com/player/24580.html THIS is a 'next gen' mmo with a hype of 7.3? The future of MMO's may be in danger lol not hating on the fans of the game it just looks like a WEAK mmo to me... and... well could someone please explain the hype because frankly it's beyond me? It's not the tabletop game... but it sure ain't no 'next gen' sweetness either...

WAR will probably be a fun, solid game, but I havent seen any features that would make it "next gen".
CD is it's most next gen feature.
HEHEHEHE
Well its a fantasy based MMO that is RvR centric.... Anyone expecting this to go to some sort of "next level" is going to be disappointed.
Hopefully it will be a solid title but its not like its anything new.
What is next gen anyway? The genre can hardly define it. I remember when Asheron's Call 2 was advertised and it was considered the first of the second generation games.
As this originally was in the general discussion and not war forums..

Well it certainly and clearly wasnt the best montage, most annoying thing was the sound affects for me, with the flashy effects reminiscent of an over done bad korean mmo.
The newer stuff looks better, but there is still some way till release.
I never have liked the animations of combat in the game but I think its true popularity comes from the PVP system and how it works with the different tiers and such.
Also from what I have been hearing or read is that the pvp is a lot better balanced in the game then a lot of other games out there, however its still beta and with the amount of number crunching guru's out there I am sure they will find some way to come up with a favorite of the month sometime.
Out of every 100 men, 10 should not be there,
80 are nothing but targets, 9 are the real fighters.
Ah, but one, ONE of them is a warrior,
and he will bring the others home.

Next Gen doesn't mean cutting edge graphics anyways. It means new ideas. So I wouldn't consider any of the MMOs out "third generation" Nor would I consider any of the ones coming out soon to be third generation.
Currently playing:
LOTRO & WoW (not much WoW though because Mines of Moria rocks!!!!)
Looking Foward too:
Bioware games (Dragon Age & Star Wars The Old Republic)
oh yes! and... where are the new ideas, click and hit? hit number to use a skill? never seen a race like the elfs! or dark elfs! o no! never seen an orc running around fighting with dwarfs!! dont be blind...
We must wait to see the game finished, but its true marketing and "fan" makes the hype go too high, this game must be ready in near 6 month (if it dont suffer a new delay...) so there is time enought for them to put new things on. Besides, I dont like the animations, I dont like the concept of this mmorpg, cause if it dont have "warhammer" in his name and remembers wow a lot, probably, without the marketing it have, it will pass throught the history. No one talks about Chronicles of spellborn or other games that are coming, everybody is talking about aoc and war, and, this is just my opinion, think that war is bringing nothing new to mmorpg market.
We already got rvr, already got guild battles, pve, raids, griding, multiclass, did you play any nwn? you got more customization that in all this games? did you play cox, you got more things new than this games, also, you can fly and teleport wohooo! ... so, seems there is a "bubble" in mmorpg that someday will explode: They are bringing anything new, just trying to get a piece of that market with marketing and more of the same.
Games that may be pretty next gen MMO's I can quickly think of:
Age of Conan, Chronicles of Spellborn, Darkfall [if it is really coming out]
Personally I can't wait for the mysterious BioWare mmo... but then again that's slated for 2009 and if we're all still hunting boars and grinding mobs just the same, it's gonna be a little sad if you ask me.
If pvp is pretty much all this title has going for it, maybe they should just make a 'fantasy' version of BATTLEFIELD... BATTLEFIELD: WARHAMMER if you will lol...
BOYCOTTING EA / ORIGIN going forward.

I guess your reading comprehension isn't very good. I said I don't consider any of the current or soon to come out MMO games Third Generation. They are all still part of the WoW Generation of games.

Keep forming your opinions based on articles and movie clips. Please do.
Anyway, who cares you dont like it? You dont care I do like it, do you?
Random MMO Expert A: Truly a next Gen Game!
Random MMO Expert B: There's nothing ground breaking about it, it can't be next Gen!1
Random MMO Expert C: lawl another WoW
Random MMO Expert AoC FTW <insert fanboi explanation here>
Random MMO Expert E: Did you see that Pre-Beta video that was put out? WAR is going to suxors!
Random MMO Expert F: Hay guys is Warhammer O going to be F2P?
Random MMO Expert G: <Insert explanation of how F2P games suck>
Random MMO Expert H: I'm going to have to agree with Expert B, there's nothing truly amazing about it. I was totally disappointed when the Devs couldn't make my Commodore 64 run Warhammer Online. I mean what are we supposed to do? Upgrade our computer every 5 years? Sheesh, whatever..
If you all could only step back and laugh at not only the stupidity of these posts but the sheer number of them that spam the same info or questions over and over again. Its called the NDA people and while I realize that allot of people want to be the Monday Morning MMO guru these arguments are pretty pathetic.

I just tried to emphatize the opinion about the problem of fans and marketing, the problem on the 3rd generation (lotro, vanguard... all this 3rd generation that got... nothing new):
There is nothing new in any game, just more of the same. Also, is one thing Im not with you: Its not "wow generation". Wow still being a copy, a mix of older games, and like windows, its done easier for players so more people can join and use "blizzard" and marketing to attract them. When I first tried L2 I said: "omg what is this? I cant customize my stats?" Since then this is more than normal in mmorpg... why? cause its getting easier and simplier to attract more people but all this games are just trying to get a piece of the cake no matter if they got nothing new, fans that go after a name is what mantains them alive.
One problem with doing anything really new, is convincing the people with the money that it will work.
We all know that if you make a product people understand, and will easily be able to get into, they will play it. If its insanely hard, or a complete left turn from what "most" people are generally use to, there's a large chance it will fail bad. There's a small chance it will take the world by storm, but the odds are in favor of failure.
With that said..most companies won't touch completely new with a ten foot pole, even if they could actually come up with the ideas. What we get is a few minor changes at a time. Over the course of 10 years or so, you might be able to look back and go, man, look at how different MMO"s are now! But you probably won't notice it too much as it happens.
D.
I find no other game that has, to what it seems like, this much SOUL and LIFE into it as this game. I'm positive this game will be one of the funniest online experiences ever.

And I don't want to hear anything about "I don't believe in vampires" because *I* don't believe in vampires, but I believe in my own two eyes, and what *I* saw is ******* vampires! "
Perhaps not "Next-Gen" but what is? WAR certainly has FAR more NEW and CREATIVE things in it then any other MMO being released in 07 or 08.
Aion's got the free flight and a major pc-controlled third faction.
Conan's got the pinpoint combat system.
I don't think WAR will introduce anything close to as revolutionary. But it still should be damn fun .
The only new thing that WAR has is public quests. Other than that it's DaoC engine in a Warhammer universe.
Yes? and what have war that other game already dont? perhaps the combat/skill/spell system? perhaps the races? perhaps the rvr? or perhaps... one moment, all this is already in other games!!
can you explain your words and show us the features it got and we dont see? cause animation and graphics are... ok I dont like it... was expecting something else... but, besides this, what it got? original clases or perhaps still under the shadow of d&d with warrior(tank) damage dealer sorcerers, etc..?

Let me tell you that fly already exists great in CoX and in flyff for ex. The combat system os aoc, was time ago announced for chronicles of spellborn, or something really similar, and Tabula rasa will mix an fps system with rpg so... perhaps nothing of aoc and/or war is too revolutionary, there are more games! but, at least, aoc got something "new" about you can own a city (like shadowbane?) and do some battles or be a merc... drunk fight etc.. Anyway, we must wait to see and test this games when are released, is too soon, what I dont like is the fans that "love" a game without reason, just for its name or just, what they imagination do... we must try to be objective!
Btw: Airspell, love your "nerd signature"
I don't care if a game is "next-gen" or not, but those GFX looks like they are from 2003, and even poor for those times
DB
Denial makes one look a lot dumber than he/she actually is.
Did i miss the announcement somewhere? When was this game marketed as next-gen?
EDIT: i was wrong, it's a newer video i believe
I don't think most people care... All i care about is good PvP. Personally, I'm not too excited about the graphics for WAR. Nothing they are doing is new, but as long as it is polished and has good, fun pvp, it doesn't bother me at all. I definitely don't consider AoC and TCoS to be "next gen" either.
I really don't think it looks bad, I signed up for closed beta
Looking from your sight. Is not better you test DAOC? at least, the pvp, will be almost the same, you can have it now... there are more original classes... so you will have everything you expect from war now and cheaper.
WAR promises a redefined questing system, pvp (RvR) with a purpose, and the tomb of knowledge that keeps track of everything you would ever want to keep track of and lets you show it to the world, along with everything people love from other games.
Not only to they promise it, but in its development it is the only game in MMO history to be so open with their development to where we can actually see those promises take shape, and even allow us to play the game in its current form bugged and de-fluffed at public conventions where even people can play it just to give it a negative review because of those bugs.
Mythic has pretty much taken the stance "if you don't like our game, don't play it" and thats the best damn slogan iv ever heard, and it pretty much applies to all the negative posts in this thread.
