http://www.gametrailers.com/player/24580.html THIS is a 'next gen' mmo with a hype of 7.3? The future of MMO's may be in danger lol not hating on the fans of the game it just looks like a WEAK mmo to me... and... well could someone please explain the hype because frankly it's beyond me? It's not the tabletop game... but it sure ain't no 'next gen' sweetness either...
WAR promises a redefined questing system, pvp (RvR) with a purpose, and the tomb of knowledge that keeps track of everything you would ever want to keep track of and lets you show it to the world, along with everything people love from other games.
Not only to they promise it, but in its development it is the only game in MMO history to be so open with their development to where we can actually see those promises take shape, and even allow us to play the game in its current form bugged and de-fluffed at public conventions where even people can play it just to give it a negative review because of those bugs.
Mythic has pretty much taken the stance "if you don't like our game, don't play it" and thats the best damn slogan iv ever heard, and it pretty much applies to all the negative posts in this thread.
LoL, I love it "If you don't like our game, f**k off mate!". thats awsome.
Anyway, who really knows what "next gen" means? You are only going to get so far with graphics. If they utilize half of Warhammers lore thats been built up over the last 25 years or so, this will be a very good game (next gen or not) I really would have liked to see the Bretonians rather then the Empire but maybe in the future. Its gonna be worth a try if anything as long as they don't FUBAR the launch.

Like other games with a purpose in pvp? do you mean that RvR is exclusive of War?
and the tomb of knowledge that keeps track of everything you would ever want to keep track of and lets you show it to the world, along with everything people love from other games.
This seems to me like a simple journal, you can find it since long time ago! nwn1 already got one where you can write what you want. Think this isnt anything new.

This sounds like a "blind" cry: I mean, we are talking, and we know as much as you (someone more, someone less) but, the game is not released so is too soon to judge it, for good, and for bad thing. So you cant say it will suck, perhap is really funny, but, you cant say, also, that it will bring lot of new things when it will not do it.
Think if we are objective say to people "if you dont like something dont post" is a "bit" dictatorial. There must be respect for everyone, also if you like something or you dont, dont be inmature with this cause is just a game and there is no fight between us. I will play war if I like it, also, perhaps I will play aoc, or chroncles or still playing and old game that its more funny to me, but cause I like a game (I like guildwars, but it got lot of problems) It dont mean I must be blind and dont see the "cons" of it. Open your mind.

You like to break things down to nothing? Well then anything and everything in MMO's have been done before on paper so nothing in these past 12 years has been innovative or new... what exactly are you trying to get at? Or are you just looking for a reason to complain?
I don't think most people care... All i care about is good PvP. Personally, I'm not too excited about the graphics for WAR. Nothing they are doing is new, but as long as it is polished and has good, fun pvp, it doesn't bother me at all. I definitely don't consider AoC and TCoS to be "next gen" either.
Looking from your sight. Is not better you test DAOC? at least, the pvp, will be almost the same, you can have it now... there are more original classes... so you will have everything you expect from war now and cheaper.
I would rather start fresh with everybody else. I just recently quit WoW (a little over 3 years on and off), and don't feel like playing any MMOs right now. I could try the free trial of DAoC, but 15 days, or whatever they're offering, won't really help me. Also, it wouldn't be THAT much cheaper to play DAoC. The monthly fee is $13 a month, I'm sure WAR will be $15. I won't be hurting for money that bad that saving $2 a month, and maybe $30 from the game is that important.
Firstly, judging whether you think a game is 'next gen' or not by watching a 30 second gameplay montage is, quite frankly, r-tarded. Secondly, the video looks absolutely awesome to me, I can't see what you're complaining about.
Lastly, I don't even know what all the fuss is about when it comes to 'next generation' MMO's. If anything, I want MMO's to take a step backwards to how they once were. I don't want to see any amazing new ideas being put into practice because, to be honest, they're nearly always rubbish when attempted. I want a good SOLID old-skool MMORPG that utilises the tried and tested content which has made MMO gaming my favourite genre for the past 10 years, I couldn't care less about 'revolutionary' content.

True enough my brother,
When I see "next gen" on something I just assume its a p.o.s. nowadays in the MMO genre. If its fun and you like it then whats the difference?

No, just waiting for you to explain the features you are talking in your previous post, I cant see them... Im bringing nothing down, and Im not talking nothing about "paper". You said:
"WAR certainly has FAR more NEW and CREATIVE things in it then any other MMO being released in 07 or 08."
And everything you told is rvr (like daoc) and a journal, this is bringing nothing down... dont get offense, but you are talking like a fanboi cause you are proclaiming that war is "new and creative", when the lore is brought from a 25 years older game, cause animations are not as good as a game of 2007/2008 is expected, cox/gw got better animations/graphs and are quite older;
Im talking that they are taking advantadge of a name and marketing to sell games and people that think that say this, or that they dont like marketing or is expecting something more interesting for this game with this hype is threatened by others like trolls, perhaps, is better you defend your arguments with something else than this, not telling me that I want to break things down to nothing, or Im just complaining, its my opinion and Im justifying and trying to explain it.

With the games that we have today Ultima Online will be revolutionary, "solid skool-mmorpg" are not hack & slash griders that come from free mmorpg. A game with stats, rping, and RPG, this i s a mmoRPG hardcore.
Your arguments are: "givme a game with stunning graphics and lot of gridding", this is easy to get. But this is not "solid old school-mmorpg", cause the old games are more complex and with lot of things that new dont have cause are focused on stunning graphics and lot of light, not about the content. So I want New things, I want they do a game with this stunning graphics but with a good content and community, were I take fun and no need of griding during month to see that my char is nothing else than number and is like all other that are near, I dont want more wow with better graphics or just with other name. No matter if you call them "next" or "new" generation, or just, something else. But, a game that comes in 2008 must have something that my game, from 2004 dont have, cause, other way, is stupid to drop out the money.
And for the last thing, please, dont call others "r-tard" about their opinion, is better to mantain respect over the sight you have about the matter.
WAR has been billed as "evolutionary, not revolutionary" by paul barrnet. which seems fair enough to me.
the "journal" you are dismissing is actually nothing like the nwn journal. as you would know because you have actually done some research beyond a video montage. right?
dont like the looks of it? dont play it. save me your broken english and shouts in general chat of "this game looks like wow lol". if you honestly have nothing better to do 6 months before a game you have no intention of playing releases than to throw a strop, then perhaps you should take a step back. perhaps WAR will fail, ive never played it so im not going to venture an opinion on that. all i know is that it looks like fun from what i see now, sure, it may not make a cup of tea or have totally realistic physics, but i frankly dont care.

Just one thing, we were not talking about the game will fail, just, with the features with have, NOW (and the video etc...) he dont see anything new in graphics/animation. Surely I will play it, and perhaps with nothing new is really funny, great! but people that blindess defend games with the same version without understanding that one guy dont like or dont see that for a gem of 2007 the graphic or animations are, perhaps, not as expected.
One last thing:
Usually I dont say this but Im a bit tired of the "if you dont like the looks of it dont play it".
I must say something to you: "If you dont like the broken english or what is writen, dont read it, dont answer it"

Are you daft man?! Go watch all the vids you can find on the game. There are a TON of new things in it. Journal? JOURNAL?! That's what you think the tome of knowledge is? Again, go watch the vids on it.
Look at Public quests. That's new! There are a few other NEW quest types as well. Like..when you see an npc standing under a tree, he has a quest thingie over his head, but look. There are 20 bears between you and him so what do you do? You kill em on the way. Ok, this is not new, what's his point? My point is, when you reach the npc with the quest he actually saw that you killed those bears on the way to him and he rewards you for it. Instead of sending you back to the stupid bears. Now that is a NEW way of doing an OLD quest.
Also, this game is still in alpha/prebeta, how the hell can you possibly say it will be next gen or not? no one can. Its an mmorpg, its competition for WoW which is a good thing, so lets enjoy it not complain like little kids who don't get there way.

"Ton of new things": I just want to tellme about this things. A journal (I saw the vids again, and is what it is ) and public missions (like killing GM in CoX... so nothing new) are no new things. So... still like in the beggining...
Seems that you are a bit overexcited, no one is crying or complaining, just talking about the OP opinion, nothing else, and contrasting ideas.

simply put, this is probably not the game for you. you value new features over fun. thats fine, thats your decision. but nobody has claimed that WAR is going to have loads of new features, new twists on old features yes. personally im going to wait to play it before i consign myself to fanboy status, in the meantime im optimistic but cautious.

Next gen I think was originally cited by other mmorpgs because they were (i) sequels to the first (ii) and they had much improved graphics and arguably in the case of AC2 an upgrade in combat system. Now its hard really to call anything "next gen" and I think probably Warhammer will be as next gen as Vanguard was. Simply having a number of new features being that aspect.
I could be totally off base because I haven't really been following WAR's development but I don't remember seeing the company hailing it as "Next Gen".
http://www.gametrailers.com/player/24580.html THIS is a 'next gen' mmo with a hype of 7.3? The future of MMO's may be in danger lol not hating on the fans of the game it just looks like a WEAK mmo to me... and... well could someone please explain the hype because frankly it's beyond me? It's not the tabletop game... but it sure ain't no 'next gen' sweetness either...
I find no other game that has, to what it seems like, this much SOUL and LIFE into it as this game. I'm positive this game will be one of the funniest online experiences ever.
Yep, it'll be just as fun as WoW. I mean, that was the goal when mythic took it on. I've had enough of that style gameplay. Archlord seems better then this IMO, and its free. I keep trying to get into warhammer, because I need a damn game, but Mythic is all talk, they show snippets of gameplay that looks boring. Those charactors did the same action for 35 seconds, IF thats combat in Warhammer I'll play UNO ONLINE!
Random MMO Expert A: Truly a next Gen Game! Random MMO Expert B: There's nothing ground breaking about it, it can't be next Gen!1 Random MMO Expert C: lawl another WoW Random MMO Expert AoC FTW <insert fanboi explanation here> Random MMO Expert E: Did you see that Pre-Beta video that was put out? WAR is going to suxors! Random MMO Expert F: Hay guys is Warhammer O going to be F2P? Random MMO Expert G: <Insert explanation of how F2P games suck> Random MMO Expert H: I'm going to have to agree with Expert B, there's nothing truly amazing about it. I was totally disappointed when the Devs couldn't make my Commodore 64 run Warhammer Online. I mean what are we supposed to do? Upgrade our computer every 5 years? Sheesh, whatever..
I could be totally off base because I haven't really been following WAR's development but I don't remember seeing the company hailing it as "Next Gen".
They never did they called it Evolutionary not Next Gen. Thats why the OP's title to this topic is so misleading.

Yes some people do, and is what Im asking. Why some people is so blind that ensures games got new features and is creative when I cant see this "new and creative" features...

Sorry about all this quotes but... seems that every of us is talking about different game
If you hate the game so much and have no plans of playing... why the hell are you stressing it at all? What's the point? Why do you care if anybody is looking forward to it? What does it matter if there is nothing new or innovative if you're not playing, and have absolutely no intentions of playing the game? Yes, there is a chance this game won't be as great as many people expect. There is also a chance that this game will be very well made, and fun. Is it wrong to want to play a well made game? I want some new and innovative MMOs to come out as much as the next man. I also want that MMO to play nice and smooth, and to be fun. If I can't have both I will have to stick with well made and fun.

It's Warhammer, it look like a solid game and frankly there hasn't been a decent RvR game since DAoC and SWG (debatable on that one) don't even try and debate that WoW had decent RvR the battlegrounds were a good idea but pulled off terribly and just turned into a PvP grindfest.
I couldn't care less if the graphics or gameplay are next gen as long as it's fun to play. Besides using next gen to describe a MMO is kind of useless since pretty much every single one has something in common with the others no matter how much they try to dress it up with a few exceptions, EVE being possibly the most non generic MMO.
Frankly, anyone seeking out a 'next-gen' MMORPG is always going to be disappointed.
Successful games aren't made by massive changes in game mechanics and completely new designs. Successful games are based on taking exisiting, familiar designs and improving upon them while adding in some innovative and new elements, rather than throwing out everything that has been done before solely because marketing wants it to look appear shiny and new.
Any game that deliberately goes out trying to be 'next-gen' shows a mentality of a developer that will lead to failure. And anyone who actually buys into the 'next-gen' hype is just being fooled by marketing people trying to rip them off.
As for WAR, Mythic has not been shy about stating that they are not making this game for everyone. If you want to play in a bright, optimistic fantasy-world, don't pay WAR. If you want to be able to solve problems using diplomacy instead of an axe, don't play WAR. If you're looking for a MMORPG that is trying to introduce completely different game mechanics and graphics that require the most expensive rig to run, don't bother playing anything at all. Unless you like giving your money to companies like Farlan and Sigil.
But if 'next-gen' graphics and game mechanics are so important to the OP, might I suggest giving Lair for the PS3 a try! You just need to LOOK at those uber-awesome graphics and read about the 6-axis control system to KNOW it has to be a good game!

LoL, I love it "If you don't like our game, f**k off mate!". thats awsome.Anyway, who really knows what "next gen" means? You are only going to get so far with graphics. If they utilize half of Warhammers lore thats been built up over the last 25 years or so, this will be a very good game (next gen or not) I really would have liked to see the Bretonians rather then the Empire but maybe in the future. Its gonna be worth a try if anything as long as they don't FUBAR the launch.
WAR promises a redefined questing system, pvp (RvR) with a purpose,
Like other games with a purpose in pvp? do you mean that RvR is exclusive of War?
and the tomb of knowledge that keeps track of everything you would ever want to keep track of and lets you show it to the world, along with everything people love from other games.
This seems to me like a simple journal, you can find it since long time ago! nwn1 already got one where you can write what you want. Think this isnt anything new.

This is nothing new, so, there are no more features? This is all you can tell use? I mean, you are saying that it will be the one that bring more new things, but, you cant tell any of this things?

You said:
And everything you told is rvr (like daoc) and a journal, this is bringing nothing down... dont get offense, but you are talking like a fanboi cause you are proclaiming that war is "new and creative", when the lore is brought from a 25 years older game, cause animations are not as good as a game of 2007/2008 is expected, cox/gw got better animations/graphs and are quite older;"WAR certainly has FAR more NEW and CREATIVE things in it then any other MMO being released in 07 or 08."

I must say something to you: "If you dont like the broken english or what is writen, dont read it, dont answer it"
You like to break things down to nothing? Well then anything and everything in MMO's have been done before on paper so nothing in these past 12 years has been innovative or new... what exactly are you trying to get at? Or are you just looking for a reason to complain?

PD:"Dont tellme "if I dont like, dont play it and shut up" so I will tell you "If you dont like my opinion just shut up and dont answer"
attempting to use reason with most forum posters is like giving medicine to the dead.
simply put, this is probably not the game for you. you value new features over fun. thats fine, thats your decision. but nobody has claimed that WAR is going to have loads of new features, new twists on old features yes. personally im going to wait to play it before i consign myself to fanboy status, in the meantime im optimistic but cautious.
Name ONE game that was inovative and list some of the inovative and new features it had if you can.

-Currently looking forward to FFXIV
-Currently playing EvE and Global Agenda
Thank you for the laugh
They never did they called it Evolutionary not Next Gen. Thats why the OP's title to this topic is so misleading.

only game that advertised its the next gen was Vanguard and it got its a$$ kicked so no one is claiming the next gen title anymore.

Seems that you didnt read all the post just... "something". If you take a look to why I wrote before you will see that its not mee who you must ask this
Yes some people do, and is what Im asking. Why some people is so blind that ensures games got new features and is creative when I cant see this "new and creative" features...

Perhaps not "Next-Gen" but what is? WAR certainly has FAR more NEW and CREATIVE things in it then any other MMO being released in 07 or 08.

Im still asking YOU the question tho name one game that was inovative and list some of the inovative and new features it had if you can. and this time either answer it dont dodge the question.

WAR is coming. Look busy.
