First of all: Sornin- you are my hero. Why is it that people get so upset at others for posting speculations about a game not yet released? IF you disagree, say so and why- it would also be preferable to have some logic in your argument (because you suck seems to be a common argument here). I guess I get to remeber what it was like to be a douche-bag when I was 12.
As a retired WoW player (whose account is now on eBay :P ) I will be trying out WAR (if I'm not sucked into Ryzom or 2moons Still) and I will definately be playing Horde...er... Destruction. Who wants to be a namby-pamby human? I get to be a cubicle dwelling salesman in real life!
Basicly i think that the reason that tabletop gamers varies that much , also comes from the armybooks being released over a very long timespawn. So when a person start collect there would be 1 army there is the newest, looks most powerfull and that most other people don't have, and there you go. And as gaming group for they will reflect the favored armys off that time!
NOW to the statement that Warhammer fans will not make it to WAR online. I think its partly right but only partly. Hardcore tabletop gamers will stay on their tables , or play computer wargamers. But those imersed in the world of warhammer , the old world , the lore and all the different aspects off the products that games workshop have made. They will have to check WAR online out, there is no way around it.
I tell you alot already made it to WOW. I am postive that 75% of all wow players in my country did in some way or another met some Warhammer stuff before they met WOW. This does not make them hardcore fans. But it sure would make them much more open to check it out when hear about it. And they are talking about it in wow forums everywhere, and thats what makes all they WoW kids come running and say oh its just a rip off, its...
I think that most PVE players will be ORDER (and WOW is game for mainly PVE players)
Sometimes I think we should just sticky certain topics and erase any others that reflect them... this same old song every few weeks keeps me from posting more often.
Honestly? Who knows what will be more popular? We can guess all we want but we have no idea what will happen till it happens.
The only trend that I find in most games is that generally, the "good" alliance tends to outnumber the "bad" alliance. This happens for several reasons.
---Sometimes its parents (and yes some parents dont't like there kids playing the bad guys, and yes its stupid and hypocrytacil to let them play violent games but only as the good guys... but we all know parents who only let there kids wear 'hero" stuff. Knew a kid who's parents would only buy him Autobots, because the Decepticons were a bad influence)
---Sometimes its because the quest are easier/more plentiful/more rewarding on one side(And believe me if one sides quest has even one xp more than another sides, someone will find it and that side will have a population boom.
---Sometimes its because one side is 'sexier' in general(example: WoW)
---Someties its because one side is cooler: Example RF online(everyone wanted to play the Bot Riders or the Robot side, the magic side was kind of empty even thought they were the 'sexiest')
---Sometimes its because the game is based on a specific property and people gravitate to what they were most comfortable with from previous experiance.
---And most of the time its because: People new to a particular product tend to be drawn to the 'good' side... People new to a product tend to play it goodie goodie till they get more conforatable, there tends to be more variables on the 'bad side'..."Well the players must be jerks if they are baddies?"...."They bad guys get all the gankers right?"... "People will be nicer on the good side right?"
Its just general human condition to gravitate to where you think it would be in your best interest to be... So new players tend to gravitate towards the good side at first
When WoW came out because of the large number of players from Battlenet and fans of blizzard, I was sure that the Horde would have more players.
Boy was i wrong....
We won't really know till the game comes out, but I would generally think that the side most people consider 'good', will INITIALLY have the most population.

I have never understood peoples generalizations on WoW. It has been over a year since i played but i played horde and on both servers i played Horde had WAY more players than alliance. Also the alliance people i did talk to said they didnt notice a lot of children playing. I saw many children on both horde servers I played so I dont think that all children roll the "good side". In fact i notice more children roll evil side than good because they think its cool to be evil.
There was someone who said that paul seems to push destruction too much and I totally agree with this. I watched a video of the baltimore gamesday and he got extremely hyped up over the greenskin and chaos, but he kinda just brushed up the order races and let the other guy deal with order (who isnt nearly as energetic as paul). They just seem to be encouraging everyone to roll Destruction and I know many of the polls arent too big but every website i check and read all the forums it shows similar patterns.....that destruction will seriously be overpopulated. I chose which side to go based on the class I wanted to play most and runepriest seemed truly awesome to play so im going dwarf!

Few things raise my ire more than someone who takes it upon himself to try to shut down ideas and opinions in an open environment that is designed to cultivate debate. Agree, disagree, whatever - just do not act the role of forum king and try to deny someone the opportunity to post their own opinion, something that takes guts and thought (usually).
Oh, and I suppose I should not attempt to derail this thread with a free-speech rant, so here is my opinion...
Early polling of a small, non-representative sample of players does indeed show that Destruction will outnumber Order. I have browsed several sites with polls and Destruction seems to consistently make up 60%-70% of the votes, which is indeed a significant margin, leaving Order at 30%-40%.
However, I do not think it will be quite so bad at release. In my experience, the rabid, hardcore fans (face it, that is what you are if you follow a game this far ahead of release) tend to go with the darker, even evil side. I am not going to try to reason why, they just do.
But, the more casual player, the one who right now has never even heard of WAR, or, if he has, does not care to follow it six months ahead of release, tends to be a different animal. He will pick up the game in a store, probably not at release, fire it up, and will likely choose Order, the side that fits what is considered to be good in a traditional sense (they are not the ones invading other lands, at least).
So, I think there will be more Order than expected...close to 50/50. Normally, I would say there would be more Order, but some of the OP's points I do agree with, and will offset the norm. Mostly, there is the fact that for once evil is really, really cool, and very well fleshed out. It is not even too ugly...Chaos and Dark Elves both look cool as hell, and Greenskins are developing a big following, too.
I am going to go with Order, since I prefer the lighter side.

Hello Sornin, long time no see!
Uhmm I'm pretty sure that was one of my points in my earlier post on this point...
New players gravitate towards the good side, I even posted why.... ohh well I know nobody reads my stuff anyway ROFL
When compared to WoW, I think WAR's factions are not as 2-sided as in Warcraft.
Sounds like They are more like 3 separate factions VS 3 other factions, and the 3 on one side just don't attack each other.
Therefor, I don't think the majority of players (maybe the first characters of former WoWers) will choose their race based on alliances/faction, but on the race itself.
At least, that's what I'm doing. Usually I play the "good/blue" side, and played alliance almost exclusively while hating Horde when I was on WoW. I love Warhammer's Ork Choppas, though, and the Chaos Chosen looks badass.
Speaking of looks, WAR isn't set up like WoW w/ ugly evil ones and "pretty" good races. Both have their better looking elves, I mean races, and their uglier/savage ones. I defenantly admit the Chaos and Greenies have more, of course.

I agree with the Op but my brother does not at all.
Still if you look at the current Empire classes they are pretty much amazing. (BWs are sweet as heck) and the high elves are lookign better than i never imagined they would.
SO maybe not.

I love how people just seem to ignore the fact that Mythic will be including incentives to play the outnumbered faction on each server. Tell everyone they'll be getting 10% more experience and gold for playing on the other team and see how many people jump ship. The worse the problem is, the bigger the incentive. They haven't revealed what incentives they're going to include but they WILL give them to help ensure realm balance, so I really don't know why everybody is so concerned about this matter.

Not as many folks will jump to the other side as you think. They tried offering incentives in DAOC to help balance the realms and for the most part the efforts didn't succeed. So no reason to think they've got a magic plan to "fix" everything......

I've seen a number of Polls, and Orcs seem to be outnumbering Dwarves like 3 to one, and Chaos is outnumbering Empire by a fair amount as well.
I wouldn't go by these obscure polls. I would look at MMOG history, and it indicates that the good guys get a lot more support due to them being, well, the good guys. You can't kill an idea.
Also, I do not much appreciate the prejudice in the OP. There is absolutely nothing wrong with picking a better looking race/class or whathaveyou, over one that is not as pretty or appealing. None. Zilch. As far as jerks go, they are universal. Any age, any faction. I tell you this with months of experience on both factions of WoW, and tinkering around other MMORPGs.

Doesnt matter to me I will play whatever side has less people doesnt matter Chaos or Order. One thing is wrong though I dont have the website anymore but younger players tend to play the "evil" side and older players tend to play the "good". WoW takes 0 skill to play so if you think that is going to be some kind of factor the players coming from there then lol at you. You need to look at games like L2, GW, DAOC more pvp based games and what those large guilds will be going. WoW players will be the bad players crying for nerfs one month into the game and most will roll chaos Im sure so that makes me lean towards Order this time to get away from the WoW player zerg which will for sure go Destruction.
Don't forget that WAR is unlike WoW in that there are no class crossovers and each class is played pretty darn differently. You must roll whatever race/side the class is if you are a class person. There are pretty darn 'cool' and unique/detailed characters on both sides. In actuality, kids think evil is cool. It just so happens that the 'rouge' class looked 'coolest' (evidently) using the elf in WoW. Not to mention the fact that the Alliance Quest system holds your hand more than kindergarten.
There are more whiney players in WoW than all other MMO's combined. If they die once they bomb out and look for forums to whine on. They want the "IWIN" button; even 1v1 or solo. WoW is about individual ego and domination. WAR is intended to be a chess game; each class will not have a fair chance against every other class 1v1. Much like DAoC.
What does it matter if both order and chaos are equaly uninspiring with arbitrary mechanics and repetative gameplay?
I realy would like to see a fighting game that would play like chess where tactics and planing ahead does matter, but hey, what does this button do? MASH MASH MASH!
btw, chaos does look way cooler, if you think otherwise, you are wrong. Order may look prettyer or cleaner or better (more kind and caring) but never cooler.
Can't help it...hooked on evil dark elves. (Not the drizzt wanna be good guy forgotten realms dark elves...I like the Malus Darkblade type bad guy bad guy dark elves.)
I've seen a number of Polls, and Orcs seem to be outnumbering Dwarves like 3 to one, and Chaos is outnumbering Empire by a fair amount as well.

Zilch. As far as jerks go, they are universal. Any age, any faction. I tell you this with months of experience on both factions of WoW, and tinkering around other MMORPGs.
You also have to keep in mind that many of these Chaos devotees are generally a very vocal minority that actually seek out such polls. I apologize for this generalization, but hey, the OP is full of them.
First...you can't set standards by what WoW has done. I also don't agree that 1/3 of WAR's population will be current active WoW players. That niche group you speak of will stay with WoW because other games don't fit the instant gratification system WoW has created. Lord of the Rings online is a perfect example: The first month WoW players were everywhere. By the next month, most were gone. It was just a different system. Why give up your baddy toon over there, for starting out elsewhere all over again? This is why I don't think WoW will suffer as much with the younger audience upon WAR's release.
You have Daoc refugees, SWG, and EQ2 also in the mix that will be going over to Mythic once more. WAR will be a rvr alternative to the phenom of Lotro as well. Speaking of RVR....
Its RvR, not PvP. One of the many drawbacks to DAOC that doesn't appeal to the younger (12-18) group is its emphasis on Realm vs Realm and not player vs player. The whole attitude of self importance in mmo's kinda stemmed from the get rich quick group in WoW. This of course is another gross generalization but since we're at it already, why not. You can't survive by yourself in WAR. You can't reap all the benefits if you run off and abandon your team so that you get to be the highest killer. I really hope they don't have leader-boards because that kills all sense of teamwork.
Why do I think Order will have superior numbers? Because deep down most people in fact want to be the good guy. And most adults just can't get past that. But thats just my own gross generalization.
I guarantee it'll balance out. Why? Because THE most attractive prospect for the majority of real PVPers is the idea of being out-numbered. What's the point in being on the winning team all the time?
With plenty of people joining the destruction side. Peoples who like schallange will most likely join in the Order side, and it'll all balance out in the end.
Anyway, it's not like the Order side is all pretty and neat and all goody goody. Look at the Warrior Priest, look at the Witch Hunter. Can you really call them "good" ? it's more like...."less evil"
Its hard not to use WoW as a barometer of things to come... EQ was looked at in the same way until WoW came out.
Honeslty while Destruction is cooler I do believe that Order will have more players at the get go, and because of a entirely new reason that occured to me last night when watching Pauls latest videos;
He used the wrong words and because of those two words, there will be a glut of Order Elves....
He said... he said... It pains me to even say it... he said the swordsmen would be:
PROTO-JEDI!!
If that does not tip the scales in orders favor I don't know what will... The minute people even get a hint of a Jedi like class...
I will bet you actual money ((and give you my real address and name (in a private message of course) so you can collect)) that their will be at least 10-20 swordsman on every server when the game starts with Jedi-esqe names. And i'm literally going to cry when I see a swordsman named Luke or some varation of the word jedi/sith or Darth.

Im going to use the TT as a barometer...most people played destruction in Fantasy Battles. Not just a few more than order, ALLOT. almost 75% of the TTers I know plays almost predominately destruction. Even I have a destruction army (greenies). I can guarantee you order will out number destruction in the beginning, but once people see how hard destruction is, their going to switch. Destruction will, probably within a half year of start, out number order.
However, I remain dwarf.
I find it kinda funny, I find it kinda sad, The dreams in which I'm dieing are the best I've ever had.

Hello Sornin, long time no see!Uhmm I'm pretty sure that was one of my points in my earlier post on this point...

All 6 of those are opinions. You fail.

I say that goblins will be the least played race!
Can't help it...hooked on evil dark elves. (Not the drizzt wanna be good guy forgotten realms dark elves...I like the Malus Darkblade type bad guy bad guy dark elves.)
Just more fun, who wants to be good all the time.

Honeslty while Destruction is cooler I do believe that Order will have more players at the get go, and because of a entirely new reason that occured to me last night when watching Pauls latest videos;
However, I remain dwarf.
