Well there certainly is a lot of people interested in this game. But with my experiences with AO I'm cautious. I'm also concerned about the combat system as it seems hard to imagine in actual play and how it will actually feel. Will it be a bunch of button pushing trying to constantly do sequences to do my fav combo (ie what in other games is just one button push) or will it have some interesting variability making it tactical as you play. It is definitely unique and different but sometimes that isn't always good. One thing to Funcoms credit in AO they did do a lot of new innovative stuff. Course none of it was well done in my opinion so it remains to be seen how AoC's implementation actually plays. I'm still surprised how many people are excited about this game but just watching the forum traffic and this thread really speaks volumes about how many people are hyped about it.
That a really fair comment. If you didn't have such a fun time with a game the company made 6 years ago I could well see how'd you would be cautious for a new game. Getting "Stung" like that isn't fun, been there myself before. Some people are less forgiving, but because of the potential of what could be most find it worthy of closer inspection. I don't understand it though when people say out right it will "flat out fail" without giving it a chance to even come out - those people must be so short sighted they often "pee" on their feet!
You know what sometimes, I keep trying to envision (when I read info) how the combat will play out, and sometimes get a bit stumped. However, a few of the guild im in's members attended and played at some of the last conventions and found the system quite appealing. With lists for a lot of combos and different feats there looks like alot of choice. Especially from some of the listening players have put together from the recent videos.
One of the Acolytes (Akaly) composed a list on the official forums: http://forums.ageofconan.com/showthread.php?t=38081 For some of the classes shown. You can see the cooldown amounts that are there and the sequence to pull the combo off, eg upper right, upper left and forward - prob "E,Q,2" (no pun intended!) buttons as the current keys are mapped (although fully customisable) bearing in mind this are beta and things might change for balancing. Hope it gives you a clearer idea? Obviously there isnt any "real time" blocking but with scope for knock downs, shield blocks and manual dodging it seem to have a twist on the norm.
On a hype level, what can I say, mines quite up there haha! To be honest I think some elements of the game just don't take a lot to read about and be intrigued, so its safe to say, yes, a few people have their eyes on the game. Personally, right now im finding it hard to play my regular games because i'm half expecting it to be done in a different way early next year with AoC and thats what im looking forward to. To seeing if Funcom can really pull it off - if they come half way of the most zealous fans estimates then i'm sure they will accomplish something better to play.
I hope upon release that AoC might offer you something different, and you might if given the chance find that different thing done in a good way and in a fun way!
