Ohh well it didn't even take me 10 days to realize how much I hated it. I have played allot of F2P and P2P. An I have to say this game gave me the feeling of a F2P game. The exp and quests were dul for 15 lvls not to mention the jobs were boring for those lvls and I couldnt even browse the A.H to atleast make lvling and game testing worthwhile.

Did you think the same way about WOW? That is the biggest clone of other MMO's out there and look at it's subs. Like it or not the game is a fun game to play and is a good solid game. The franchise name doesn't hurt subs. But i can tell you this alot of the hardcore LOTR fans won't touch this game.

Of course.  If the game would have been made by some random developpers and would have been named World of Somecraft, do you think it would be as succesful ?  It's the same thing for LOTR, it would be the same thing for games like Star Trek online and Stargate Online.

Having a franchise name helps a lot with the beggining sale, look at Star Wars Galaxies, HUGE sale when the game launch, but look what happen to the game now.

Gamespot derived their numbers of boxes sold from Midway's quarterly report... which made no mention of Lotro or boxes sold.  It did mention a $10 million dollar profit... but that's it.  Gamespot then used some kinda magic mojo formula to come up with the box sales.
Here is the link to Midway's sales # :

To see the table I have included below... you'll have to go to the PDF that they have a link for in the above link, I've included a link to the PDF here as well:

If you don't believe me... look on the internet for as long as you want to try and find an official release of box sales.  You won't find it.  The box sales number is just like Boston Globes 800k subs. number... a complete guess without any clue as to it's accuracy.
hmmm...........ok, well still as I said, there is no offical release either way. I would go with GS over the Boston globe any day.

The fact of the matter is there are not enough physical servers to house 800k subs.

That is true actually...do a search, and it is noted that roughly 3000 to 4000 can be on one server...x12 servers (they still have that many?)

Thats only 48000 on at one time MAX....so, how could 800k play all at once? or even stilted...I never got a queue after the first month of open...so maybe...just maybe...100-200k subs at most

    Cheers!

Actually there are 22 servers between the EU and US.

As to how many each one can house... not a clue.  I'm not on the Turbine development team so I can't accurately state how many each server can house.  I'm just trying to deal with facts that can be verified.

The only two numbers dealing with LoTRo and Turbine that are verifiable are that there are 22 servers total, and that Midway made $10 million the quarter that LoTRo was released.

ANY other number is a guess, estimate, assumption.

Usually the number will be exaggerated to imply the influence of the game.

There was an old interview from Turbine CEO, Jeffrey ..forgot last name..., anyways, he said each server could hold up to 10,000!  I could believe it too, but i'm guessing the average number per server would probably be around 2000-3000.

There was around 2000-3000 on 11 US servers.  It didn't add up any /afk or /anonymous people though, so it was probably even more.
Considering that when I played CoX about 2 months ago, there were around 2500 average for the Freedom server (most populated server) alone (counting both games) during prime time, that not good news for such a newly released game. CoX is hovering at the 150k mark currently and is 3 years old and has about the same number of servers as LoTRO.

I hope you mean that the 11 US servers each averaged 2000-3000 people on simultaneously. Otherwise LotRO is in some deep trouble.

In the end, logic and reason always beat out fanboys.

Before I left, it was so difficult to find groups for quests...you could see people for an hour or more LFG in the chat channels..(they have an LFG tool...but it seemed to not be used) ...and it seemed these people were spread out, so not everyone was on the same quests...and finally it always seemed to be the same names popping up...so not a large variety...

Also, you could not do a /who, as this would not show the Anonymous users, which also could be quite a bit...as the issues with gold spammers got really ridiculous near my end, that people just went Anon to escape the spam...so, the overall look of population looked quite small during these searches...

The numbers have also varied over how many actual people could be on a server...we have seen some comments from Stratic chats saying 2-3k, and one interview with Jeffrey Steefel saying 10,000...which is a lot for a server...

So...too many numbers being misleading (4 million...yea right...how many zombie accounts are you counting?)...and now they are #2 largest MMO? Well...we need more proof than that...geez..

    Alright...cheers all

It is surely not 800.000 more like 300.000 but who cares. The server I play on is constantly full, so I dont care how well are doing the other servers, or how many other servers are there.

    REALITY CHECK
