I wonder if its going to be a new IP, WoW 2 (Which I doubt because WoW is still alive and strong), or make a mmorpg from one of their series.

I hate the term "next gen" for MMOGs. I honestly don't see enough of difference between the early MMOGs and the current, except in amount of content and polish, to call it a new generation. Adding a new feature, or using DX9, or having one more class or two more quest types doesn't make it a new generation, dammit!

    ...

    Grrrrr.

Yes, I'll go to bed soon. :p

They have a blockbuster product. However, the life of MMORPGs is limited. Although the life expectancy  of MMORPGs are still undetermined (EQ is still alive for god sakes), we do know at some point there will be a mass exodus to newwer games. Any company knows it cannot feed off a single product forever. They will make a new MMORPG, no doubt, perhaps Starcraft, perhaps WoW2...who knows. But yes, they will make something new.

they may have lots of cash and the name blizzard...
but the staff that made wow no longer exists.

Which I think is partially responsible for all of the new MMOs that have come out and are in the pipeline.

There is so much that can still be done with WOW. Blizzard just needs to focus on what brought people to it in the first place.

I played WOW for nearly 2 years. Thats about 1 more year then i should of kept my account open. It was a nice change from DAOC but it wasn't so called Next Generation. They just took what all the other games on the market had and made improvments to those and added them to WOW. What attracted many to WOW was of course a Blizzard following but more importantly an EASY Mode style of game play. Leveling was virtually painless and thanks to web sites like Thottbot you didn't have to use your brain at all on quests as it was in cheater form all laid out for players.

WOW has PVP but its not a PVP MMO its a PVE clone of many other previously releassed titles using Warcraft flavor. I went back to playing DAOC for a bit about 5-6 months and quit but i personally cant see myself ever playing WOW again.  The game is just boring imo.. The big question to ask is what is Next Generation and to whom does the term Next Gen apply to.  I don't see nothing on the horizon thats next gen not even in the Games  in Development part of this website.

Like the motion picture industry who has resolved to making redo's of old movies the gaming or MMO market is stale. The next best thing wont be next gen, It will be revolutionary to the point that not a single thing in this game will like any other. It must have changing persistant challenges that can't be patterned or predicted by anybody. Nothing can be done the same way twice by anybody. It's a start.

I gotta agree with Dreamagram, as far as the "next gen" thing goes.  Companies like to throw that term around to make their MMO sound new and innovative, when theyre really just newer, more polished versions of the originals.  Ive never played Eve, but IMO, its the only MMO that actually sounds "next gen".  Maybe someone that plays it can correct me there...

Starcraft Online, or Galaxies, or whatever, would completely and utterly dominate the PC gaming scene.  There's no greater game developer whose products I look forward with greater keeness.

Some countries will probably pass a law that requires you to buy it

Still waiting for your Holy Grail MMORPG? Interesting...

Hmm, the company that created the most successful MMORPG of all time is developing another one? I'm floored.

I certainly hope that Blizzard does some large scale hiring if they want this game to rival WoW, does anyone remeber how much customer service sucked in WoW, Blizzard was just a fledgling company when WoW came out hopefully this time the much larger blizzard company will be better prepared and better staff then the previous WoW staff

May the force be with you

Well, by the time their new MMO comes out, WOW will have a MUCH smaller population than it does now, at least in North America.  So, the timing is actually pretty good, if theyre just starting to develop.
