Who cares. Just tell her the opinion of a skank matters not to your superior intellectual mind.

I Find what you say really hard to believe. You are not unusual in your old musical tastes, there is a huge population at my school and in my community who are obsessed with classic rock, to the point where they ignore anything new, mainstream or not, and write it off as garbage. It's a good thing to know your roots, but try and expand a bit, don't just listen to the radio, not all new music sucks.

Well maybe its different where you're from

Primus is King of the Bass!!!

For some reason that's the only song I can stand from Primus.  All the other ones just don't seem good to me.

No required quests! And if I decide I want to be an assassin-cartographer-dancer-pastry chef who lives only to stalk and kill interior decorators, then that's who I want to be, even if it takes me four years to max all the skills and everyone else thinks I'm freaking nuts. -Madimorga-

Yea, me too. Most of their stuff is a bit off the wall.

I shoot for the curve... anything above that is gravy.

    My take on this.

Why care what is socially acceptable and the norn? I honestly don't see how your tastes are unique to any other kid who might appreciate finer points of our past cultures but then I don't know every little thing about you. Only what you've written.

Besides to be honest I'd like to personally stab the face(s)  of anyone who doesn't know where the famous line "Rose Bud" came from.

The main question is what is acceptable by anyones means?

Is it considered crappy to know songs such as and yes I shall say it "freebird"? I'd hope not .

Is it odd you may know old movies? Naw, dawsons creek totally screwed you there mate. It's already been done.

Besides the girl was just flirting with you and probally did the teen thing as thats insult when they mean good :P, or atleast that is my experience.

Suggestion? Shag her and when you are done tell her she has no taste.

    That'd be awesome-cicles!

Now if you start doing the jitterbug at a dance you've gone too far man.

I listen to old rock music, but I like the most sort of music. But lately I've seen more and more people who listen to old music. It seems like it's getting quite trendy (at least here in Sweden). If she states you've got no taste then just tell her it's she who got no taste. Everything is relative.

ya i remember around 6 years ago here everyone all of a sudden began listening to old music, all the radio stations started to play oldies, and very few people listened to new stuff.

now there really isnt any popular music genre in my area, everyone just listens to whatever

side note: ok so this thread talks about mainstream, and conforming to this ideal.  Lots of people i know have started to dress "Emo" and seem proud to be "breaking away from the mainstream" or "not conforming".  The funny part of this is that since so many are doing this, they all look exactly the same and are now conforming to the scremo/post-hardcore music genre image that is becoming pretty popular around here

Forgive the double post gods of mmorpg.com, I know not what I do.

Seriously , I never really understood mainstream at all. I figured we all pretty much look the same regardless of clothing or fake piercing. We all look like post hairless monkey's to me.

I'm as different as can be in a non-conventional way. But I still love mankind.

Mainstream according to me is being extremely comfortable not standing out in any way. Yuk.

I too try to be unique but what I was getting at is this.

I am unique, but so is that guy , that guy, also that guy.

We're all the same in our desire to stand out. So basically being unique is mainstream.

Even when we think differently there are millions who can agree with your thinking as well.

    See what I mean?

In my experience don't try to be different. They try to pretend they want to be different. Because being truly different can be pretty lonely in this society. Or so they think (not far from the truth perhaps?).

Being exactly the same as others can be very devaluating. Hence why people spend hundreds of dollars looking exactly the same as others in a self-delusinal attempt to be different.

Of course, we're all different. But the mainstrzam doesn't want to exploit those differences.

What I mean by "try" is that I "try" not to succumb to the constant "man why are people starring at me" feel and go buy a pair of gap jeans so they end the glare. But then again I enjoy myself far to much to do so, So I'll hop my ass down to the goodwill and find me a nice pair of 1970's jeans and be happy that I spent 5 bucks on a pair of pants that will make people "ok that dudes a ^%^ing nut."

I admit too I enjoy the attention of being slightly of a different variant than my average peers. I like my bright red hair, etc, etc, etc. I just enjoy being truely different in small respects but I am not so arrogant to say it's my own style. I'm pretty sure 1000's do the same thing I do.

Once you accept that being different is the same as being the same as the next joe you just look different crap really falls into perspective.

I'm also an attention whore. I have to be! I busk these days lol, you have to get peoples attention like a damn parrot.

Never should of started a major in music.

    Yea. Of course.

But... I dunno. It just annoys me that people are content hiding in the masses.

This radiates to so many levels of society.

I do everything trough public transport. And every time I notice some moron being racist to some small gipsey kid (or whatever, that's just the most recent example) I'm the only one willing to speak up (or at least stand in between them).

I see on peoples faces they disagree with the moron, but they just shut up. Hence the kid feels like not only the moron, but the whole f**king bus is against him. Nice.

People are so busy blending in, not standing out (even tho they're NOT the same as everyone else) that they forget to do they right thing.

    GOD DAMMIT!

  • AstropuyoAstropuyo Member RarePosts: 2,178

That is because most humans are cowards.

Look at the history of humanity, one dude will be COMPLETELY WRONG. Yet people never speak up out of fear. Now whether those fears are "Oh no I won't be like my neighbor" or "oh no nero might cut my sexual organs off and make my mother eat them" is up to the times.

Few humans have courage to do what is "right" and fewwer still have the courage to change what is wrong into right visa versa.
