EQ2 is actually gaining people all the time.  People don't quit EQ2.   LOTRO, WoW and VG players are joining.  Wait for Kunark, even more people will play.
and you have some proof to back up your claims that the game is growing?  You can't waggle a finger at others for not showing their work that disagrees with your opinion and then state your opinion in the same manner as if it somehow is factual.   Do you have access to something showing a gain that others don't?   Honest question.

To the person who claimed 4 exapansions as a highlight I submit this to you.  SWG had 3 expansion in 2 -3 years and look at that mess.  Seriously though, the volume and frequency (also quality) of expansions SOE releases for their games has been a negative point for many people and that dates all the way back to the expansion boycott in EQ1.  It sounds like SOE is finally getting the hint about rushing out expansions to raise the bottom line regardless of quality.  Time will tell though.

Again, we can look at that same chart for SWG...and their numbers were actually decent as long as expansions were coming out..

Same with EQ2...the expansion release show an influx of players...with still some retainment...

But, they also get the falloff as other games are released...

Really this thread is silly...the only games that are a successes are WoW, then Guild Wars...these two games did things right (even though some may not like one or the other)...but, as to the OP's post (a true troll post...because look at what has happened here in this thread)...EQ2 is not dying or Dead...but cruising on fandom...the game has the ability to keep people who are dedicated to a really good game is all

    Cheers!

I can only speak for the server I play on, Antonia Bayle, and it is by no means dead.  If anything it continues to grow.  Everytime I make a new alt I run into new players, I can still find groups but your best bet is to join a guild.  The lower level population any server at this point will more then likely be fairly small, but with the release of RoK that will change as it did at the beginning EoF.  Most players at this point are probably waiting for RoK to make new characters, at the launch of EoF it seemed that everyone in my guild began to lvl a fae.  I dont have any numbers but I can say that AB grew a ton at the launch of EoF and expect it to do the same with RoK.

Also...there is the fact that AB is probably the best server of ANY game I have ever played...WoW, Lineage II, LOTRO, GW, CoH...you name it..

The people here are fantastic, and as you stated, people keep joining, as the questions are heavy in main chat...

The prof is right in this forum dude.   Haven't you noticed all the questions lately.  Seems like a lot of people are picking it up.  Just browse the forum pages and you will see.

At higher lvls EQ2 is a lot more populated, low lvl characters dont have access to a lot of areas. You  really find a lot of empty spaces at lower lvls but you also meet ppl often while runing quests, hunting or at the main cities. Keep an eye on the severs for a couple of days and find out those which are populated more often, they are at the bottom of the list.

You can't say "seems like a lot of people are picking it up" and use that as proof.  I know you won't understand the the double standard I'm trying to point out.

I am a little surprised this Topic is still going because Everquest 2 is not only alive but growing.  The Rise of Kunark expansion should further accelerate this growth.

EQ 2 is the most fun and exciting thing out right now.  I am happy to be apart of it.  It is a non-forced game.  The questing is deep.  The gameplay is complex.  The world is huge.  The graphics are awesome.  The audio is, in my view, the best for fantasy MMOs.

I could not ask for more.

It only takes 5-6 hours to hit level 30 and there is a cap on total characters. In fact you could fill your 7 character slots with 30+ characters in a month of casual play or a week or dedicated play. This limits the number of lower level characters you are going to see.

I’ve seen far to many devs make offhand comments about good retention rates post EoF to think there is a problem with EQ2 loosing subs. The tinfoil hat “anyone connected to SOE is always lying unless they are saying negative things” crowd will no doubt ignore such statements and believe what they want.

You are right, help me out...

You cannot deny the augmentation of post on mmorpg about where to get it, how to do this, which servers, is it too late to start, etc...

I will agree that there are some people asking how to start playing the game on the forums, maybe a dozen or so a week?  It however does not mean the game is growing or losing subscriptions. 500 people could have quit last week without posting or maybe none, who knows.

My only point was that someone made a statement of "fact" about the game losing subs without any proof.  You rightfully called him out for proof, but then did pretty much the same thing claiming it was gaining, minus proof.

And that does not include 3 other characters that just were not good for me (did not like classes...) And I have yet to try ALL the classes / races / zones...

Then lets put in an extra 10 hours for research (online wiki, reading about various aspects of the game...etc..)

And I just finally joined my first guild and have yet to run any major instances...lol

This is also the first game of any (well, besides Guild Wars...but, only levelled 2 to max), that I have more than one alt all keeping up to each other in level. I have each doing different tradeskills, I have different days that one is allocated to gathering, one questing and one tradeskilling...(even though I see a couple that need to catch up...hehe)...and never get bored...

Where does the time fly? (God...this game is so awesome...)

    Cheers!

I didn’t say level 40 I said level 30 (leveling starts to slow down a lot at 30), and yes you can make it to level 30 in 6 hours.

A new player is going to take a lot longer of course, they don’t know where anything is and they have a lot to figure out and they can have lots of fun just wandering around exploring.  As veteran you end up going to where you need to go, doing what you need to do and moving on. When you have vitality you end up leveling extremely fast this way without even trying.

This isn't really a bad thing it just means that most of the games population isn't going to stay below level 30 for long on the rare occasions they start a new char

Now you say if it is a veteran player... but uhm isn't that a bit out of context of this discussion. Wasn't he refering to lowlevels as in lowlevels played by 'new' players.

The thread is about the population at lower levels. In established games where there is a strong low level population, alts of veteran players are usually a big part of the picture.

In EQ2 alts of veteran players are less common because of the 7 character limit, and when a veteran rolls an alt they don’t stay low level for very long and probably don’t spend much time in groups when they do

My proof is right in this very own forum.  I don't even have to point them out, people come by themselves and mention they just strated.  Thats a sign that the game is healthy, not dead and gaining people.

Oh lord its another one of those "which numbers are more credible" threads which is always a "this game is overrated / crap / dying / dead" thread. - Yawn

Personally, until there is an official independant game subscription rating services, ( such as Nielsen), ther are no credible figures I would believe - and those include ones produced by the game makers / publishers or any sort of fuzzy logic nonsense dreamt up to validate on epersons point of view.

I have played the game since launch ( and not exclusivly so it does not make me a fanboy) and my guild is still getting new joiners alongside new alts.

There are far more deservine cookie cutter games out there without having to worry about major brand titles. Support the big brands and disuade the half arsed, under invested, over hyped crap. Innovation is the key and tihs comes from companies with pedigree and success who can afford to invest and speculate ( WOW, GW, SWG) and independant visionaries who are willing to break the mould (Eve).

In MMO, imitation is short lived.

So by that very same logic lets look at the vanguard forums.  Lots of people posting they are buying or trying out the game since its launch.  Does that mean Vangaurd is healthy and gaining?

A couple dozen people posting newbie questions does not show proof that a game is growing.  You and I both agree 500 people could be quiting or joining every day without posting and that proves your theory has no "proof" since the population could be going in any direction.  How can you not see that.

Does it mean Vanguard *isn’t* healthy and growing?  Personally I’m more then content to let people who actually play Vanguard speak to the state of its health.

In fact I wouldn’t be caught doing otherwise lest I end up like you and embarrass myself by trying to argue “We don’t know whether it’s growing or shrinking therefore it’s shrinking” One would think you have shrinkage obsession.
