Leveling Improvements for Patch 2.3

URMAKERURMAKER Member UncommonPosts: 671

As many of you already know we've been working on changes designed to improve various aspects of leveling for those making their way to level 60. These improvements, available in patch 2.3 will come in many forms and should significantly contribute to a more fluid and enjoyable leveling experience .

The first notable change was to simply reduce the amount of experience needed each level by approximately 15% between levels 20 and 60. Please note that when the patch is released, characters affected by this change will remain at their current level percentage. For example, if a character had exactly 50% of the current level's total experience before this change went into effect, the character would still have exactly 50% of the current level's total experience; only now fewer points would be needed to level.

Questing plays a very large role in World of Warcraft, especially while leveling and we felt that improvements to this front were necessary as well. Experience gained for completing quests (on average) between levels 30 and 60 is being increased. The increase becomes more substantial as you make your way towards 60. Additionally, many outdoor elite mobs will become non-elites, making many quests which were previously too difficult or required a group much easier and offer the same rewards (in some cases better!). A good example of this change would be Stromgarde Keep in Arathi Highlands, which will become a solo friendly environment when patch 2.3 goes live.

We've also added approximately 60 new quests in Dustwallow Marsh. This should help players who find themselves lacking quests in the 30-40 range. The Steamwheedle Cartel is building the new town of Mudsprocket in south-west Dustwallow Marsh, so you'll have to wait until construction is complete to learn more about these changes.

We're making other improvements to pre-bc leveling dungeons that players will likely find most agreeable. The level range for most every dungeon is being adjusted so that there is a much smaller range between the level of mobs found early in the dungeon to those found towards the end. For example, Shadowfang Keep is currently designed for levels 18-25 which means that right now, players who are towards the bottom of that range (18) will find it nearly impossible to complete the dungeon, while players towards the top of the range (25) will find most of the dungeon trivial. Using our new model (similar to what you'll notice with Burning Crusade leveling dungeons), Shadowfang Keep is being retuned for levels 18-21.

We also want to make running a leveling up dungeon more worth while. In addition to increasing quest experience for dungeon quests, we're also upgrading all pre-bc dungeon boss drops to blue quality items. Some examples are listed below:

Ragefire Chasm

Robe of Evocation old: +3 Stamina, + 4 Intelligence

Robe of Evocation new: +4 Stamina, +5 Intelligence, and +5 Spell Critical Strike Rating

Deadmines

Smite's Reaver old: +2 Strength, +1 Stamina, +1 Spirit, 11.1 dps

Smite's Reaver new: +2 Strength, +3 Stamina, +2 Hit Rating, 14.5 dps

Shadowfang Keep

Robes of Arugal old: +3 Agility, +5 Stamina, +9 Intelligence, +10 Spirit

Robes of Arugal new: +3 Spirit, +5 Stamina, +9 Intelligence, +12 Spell Damage

As you can see there is much in-store for the next major content patch, particularly a number of changes designed to benefit players who are leveling a character. Though we've given you a few examples of the things to come, we think everyone will be pleasantly surprised when they see the full extent of the changes discussed above.

great idea imo i been checking the notes/updates to 2.3 looks like the best patch ever

Ugh.  Too little, too late for me.

If this had been around during the Summer, then perhaps I'd still be playing.

I've been checking patch notes aswell, some nice stuff in there for sure. I dont like them making elite mobs into normal mobs tho... cmon where's the challenge? Not in lvling for sure

oh on a sidenote: my pala is getting closer to 70 and every day now it gets harder to find the motivation to log on. Thinking of endgame (my 5th char lol) again gives me a bad feeling

Awesome, like a lot of players I'd like to experience other classes. The thought of having to grind through level 60 again was a bit daunting though. Good move Blizzard!

I'll look forward to checking out the end result in playability with that patch. It's an area that badly needed a fix.

    Love that Bender quote, btw!

Well 2.2 just came out so I would give it 2-3 months before this one goes live.

imo this is what makes Blizzard such a great company and WoW such a great game.

These guys are really on the ball when it comes to making necessary changes to reflect the age of their game and adding good solid content.

    Kudo's blizzard.

There is a reason why you have so many subscriptions.

I have to agree. But in a way I feel they could do alot more tbh. They do take some shortcuts I mean like taking all the T1 and T2 armor, recoloring and renaming and making it Outland instance blue drops? Cmon that was just cheap beyond silly. Should we expect the same from WotLK? If so it would be a major disappointment.

Good changes overall, though I hope they don't remove the elite status from some of the boss mobs at the end of quest lines.   I assume they're talking about the mobs in areas like that cave in STV where all the mobs are elite.

Still waiting for your Holy Grail MMORPG? Interesting...

this sucks.  i loved the mini dungeon type zones like Stromgarde Keep.  they added a fun layer to the game (get a few friends and do some worthwhile quests instead of grinding easy mobs quicker)

We've also added approximately 60 new quests in Dustwallow Marsh. This should help players who find themselves lacking quests in the 30-40 range. i always did love this zone.  the emptyness was epic.  these quests should help it alot but remove some of the seclusion.

this i think is a mistake.  dungeons are good fun.  I love SFK and i love doing it once or twice per lvl from 20-25.  if they make the level range smaller that means i gotta spend more time grinding (cry) and outside (of a dungeon).  this is made even worse with the xp required reduction.
however a much needed patch that should help with the crappy grind from 1-60

    MMO wish list:

    -Changeable worlds
    -Solid non level based game
-Sharks with lasers attached to their heads

The changes make normal mob grinding useless, but now you have to quest grind.

This seems like they are taking more things from LOTRO. First voice chat and now most the the xp from quests.

Agreed.  If this would've happened a couple of weeks after BC, i wouldn't have minded, but it's too late to even care since i've stopped playing.

Do they make it even easier? Replacing nonelites for elites, 15% less XP per level. Now its gonna be like 2 days played for level 60.

Blizzard recognise that 90% of a servers pop is in outlands at any 1 time with 5% in the cities, which leaves about 5% of new/alt players in the 1-60 content.. so all these changes, increased EXP, 60+ new quests for lvls 40-50 and zone revamp, lower lvl for dungeons, gets new players and alts into the world faster.  right now im sure WoW 1-60 feels empty to new players unlike when I started and it was packed from 1-60.

    2.3 in shaping up to be the best content patch since TBC;

    • Zone revamp with 60+ quests for lvls 40-50
    • Class/skill revamps for all classes
    • Zul'aman 10man raid instance
    • Guild banks (took em 3 years)
    • New items from heroic vendors
    • Daily quests in all Battle grounds (PvP)
    • Dialy quests added to some dungeons
    • New engi pans... inc Crafted mount
    • EXP inc from 20-60 to help get ppl into the mainstream content

Something for every 1 in 2.3

Um, where have you been?  This has been true from day 1.  Why on earth do you think it doesn't count against your rest bonus when you turn in quests?  Questing has ALWAYS been the fastest way to level.

Aye I remember that back when I played. It pissed me off, why would anyone want to look for group when it just slows things down. Why to do group quests when it gives much less experience than soloing. If a bunch of friends start playing its best for them just to solo the way up, because its 50% faster. What kind of stupid design is that? I would bet my right eye this was not the feature that lured milions, because it was already in AC2. Together with quest system, raids..  But what now? Why didnt they just add an option at character creation for a player to choose his starting level. That would do it!
