    What areas are you referring to? Where do you start from?

    Besides during a handful of quests after you've completed the campaign, most Charrs are around lvl 8 AFAIK.

    And lvl 12, you should have reached the Shiverpeaks by now. What missions have you completed?

    If you're running W/R to have a pet, don't bother.  By level 12, you need to start putting runes and APs into your Warrior primaries.  Get a good axe or sword and shield and invest as many APs as you can into tactics and axe mastery or swordsmanship.  Tactics will buff your defense, and axe mastery or swordsmanship will buff your damage.  You also need to get the best armor you can afford.  Warriors make pretty lousy Rangers and even worse casters.  Concentrate on your primary for now.

    The problem with a pet is that when they die, they take all your skills down for 8 seconds.  That's a long time to be without skills in heavy melee.

    If you need a good axe or sword, look me up in-game.  Add Duncan Serling or Sinjin Makepeace to your friend's list and look for me online.  I'll help you out.

    well yeah i made it to shiverpeaks but its much harder. plus im still stuck on quest such as atheas ashes... well i never knew owning a pet can take away skills when they die so ill have to try that. also i dont use a sword or axe i just use a hammer.

    well the only armor i can find is charr armor which i have. but i enhanced the charr helm and such to add a little more attributes.

    EDIT: my bad... this is my old account i just remembered my password. i didnt mean to post with this account as i dont use anymore.

    I'm not quite sure what you mean by 'charr armour'? Did you check the armour crafter in Ascalon City or Yak's Bend?

    0.o Never heard of this, to be honest. You might check the armour crafter in Yak's Bend and compare the stats on those with the ones on your current armour.

    hmm well here's my current armor stats...

    helm = armor 50, tactics+1, strength +3, health 75, armor +20

    curcass (middle) = armor 50, strength +3, health 75, armor +20

    gauntlets = armor 50, armor bonus 20

    legs = same as gauntlets

    boots = same as gauntlets.

    If possible, quest with other real players.  The henchmen are stupid and are usually too low of a level to be big help.

    helm = armor 50, tactics+1, strength +3, health 75, armor +20

    curcass (middle) = armor 50, strength +3, health 75, armor +20

    So looking at this, what you're telling me is that you're carrying 2 superior strength runes?  K, here's the problem: Superior runes steal 75 health, not grant 75 health.  And while their attribute points don't stack, their health debuff does.  So in essence you're down 150 health for a +3 buff on strength, which isn't really where you need to be putting APs right now.  And if you're using runes of vitae, you're getting + 10 health per rune, not +20.  You're down on health net -130.  No wonder you're getting owned.

    On top of that, you're using a hammer which - while it provides some knockdown skills - doesn't offer much in the way of defense (unless you have an appropriate defensive mod on it).

    So here's what you need to do:

    Your armor at +50 is fine for now.  You'll be able to upgrade it again (59 armor) in Beetletun once you get to Divinity Coast (head east out of DC to get to Beetletun).

    Your helm should be spec'd for sword or axe mastery, and - for now - a minor rune of either of those two on it will do.  Get a new helm spec'd for axe or sword, and put the matching minor axe or sword mastery rune on it.  This will grant a +1 buff to either of those attributes.  Forget hammer mastery for now, it's more important in PvP than PvE.  You need to be able to carry a shield for now.

    If you want, you can use a major rune of sword or axe.  They're only 100 gold right now, and stacked on your helm (depending on whether sword or axe) will buff either of those attributes by +3 (1+2).  Plus, a single major rune will only cost you 35 health to use.  An acceptable loss at your level, especially if you can get a weapon and/or shield modded with fortitude.

    If you can swing it, add a major or superior rune of absorption.  They cost no health and reduce physical damage against you by 2 (major) or 3 (superior).  Basically, they make you a little tougher.

    Eventually, you'll want to add a rune of major vigor, but for now, runes of vitae will do.   Add a minor rune of tactics to buff your defense, and get the skill called "Watch Yourself".  This shout buffs all team members' armor within earshot by +17 with only 9 aps in tactics.  It's a very good warrior skill to have on your bar.

    Getting a max shield will buff your armor +16.  But even a +13 shield is better than no shield at all at your level.

    Now, with all that done, set as many aps as you can into swordsmanship (if you're carrying a sword) or axe mastery (if using an axe) and put the rest in tactics for now.

    To recap:

    1. New helm of sword or axe.
    2. Minor or major rune of sword or axe on that helm (depending on which one you choose).
    3. Rune of major or (better) superior absorption.
    4. Minor rune of tactics.
    5. Runes of vitae on everything else (later on you can replace one of these with a minor rune of strength and the other with a major rune of vigor).
    6. Max or near-max shield (fortitude mod preferred)
    7. Max or near-max sword or axe (fortitude mod good here, too).

    Now you should be able to tank with this build without much trouble.  If you still want to run with a pet, put any aps you have left (after sword or axe and tactics) into beast mastery.  With this build, even if your pet dies, you should survive ok.  Just watch the aggro and check your "six."

    Hope this helps.

    Good luck.

    P.S.  Trick to using henchies is to either engage small groups, or "flag them" well out your aggro circle, then attack.  Once you've "tanked" for the aggro, unflag them and they'll come heal you and attack with you.  If you've drawn the aggro, they should be fine.

    wow i never really knew that. i always thought it gave 75 which is why i bought them. anyway, where's a good place to buy these runes?

  • SerlingSerling Member Posts: 662

    Rune trader in Ascalon City, near the armor crafters.

    P.S.  Don't forget to customize any weapon you have for the +20% damage buff it gives you.  Do that at a weapon crafter.  Only costs 10 gold, though you won't be able to sell, trade or give it away after you do.  To find these NPCs, hold down the ALT key while you turn in acircle, then double click on them to run to them.

    ok thanks for the help... if i read correctly.. i should get a new helm and chest plate and make the helm sword or axe then get myself a sword or axe and start from there? what runes exactly should go on what pieces of armor?

    i already bought a new chest piece last night and boost my health from 170 to 245 which is good.

  • SerlingSerling Member Posts: 662

    You don't have to buy all new armor to put new runes on it.  You just have to buy new runes and "upgrade" the armor you have.

    The only exception to this is your helm, which is spec'd for Tactics, when I'd recommend it be spec'd for Swordsmanship or Axe mastery because of the +1 damage buff you'd get just from the helm itself.

    My Warrior's armor rune layout reads like this (keep in mind I've had him for a couple of years and have had time to get this stuff):

    1. Superior swordsmanship on sword helm (+4 buff to sword damage).
    2. Superior absorption on chest.
    3. Minor strength on gloves.
    4. Superior vigor on leggings.
    5. Minor tactics on boots.

    I carry an Exalted Aegis (factions end-game shield) that provides +16 armor, +30 health, and -5 received physical damage (20%).

    I also use a max Firey Dragon sword with +24 health on it.

    For insignias, I carry Dreadnought on all 5 armor pieces, for the extra protection it gives me against elemental damage.

    but wouldnt adding a new rune to a piece of armor that already has a rune on it keep the stats on it? i mean if i get a minor sword rune and apply it to my helm... my helm will keep the -75 health?

    EDIT: i get what your saying... applying a superior swordsman rune to my helm will keep the -75 health. so i should do that?

    You can replace one rune with another by simply buying the new rune, then double clicking on it and applying it to the armor with the old rune on it.  The superior rune you're replacing carries  the health penalty, not your armor.

    And no, at level 12 you can't afford to sacrifice 75 health for a single rune.  At most,  I'd put a major rune on your sword helm, but a minor rune - at this point in your progression - would be best.

    what are you talking about...i have a W/R..the same one i had since the first actual beta...i have a pet cat (had to get a new pet since all my beta stuff was wiped lol) ive been using the same 3 skill sets since and ive had NO problems whatsoever. Currently im soloing nightfall AND GWEN at the same time (in intervals) with all heroes and henchmen NOT ONE human player in any of my parties.... True Warriors are only good for being warriors...BUT they do benefit even more for the secondary you pick up. and to be honest my warrior was pretty damn good with the bow too lol.

  • SerlingSerling Member Posts: 662

    I have 3 rangers with pets (2 accounts) and only use pets about 50% of the time!  Depending on the mobs and situations, they can be as big a liability as an asset.

    If you read the OP's dilemma, "stuck at level 12", you'd notice that his problems went deeper than having a pet, and I think we resolved those.  Given the fact that he's new to the game, he really needs to focus on buffing his primary.  Once he gets good at that he can - IMHO - focus more on what his secondary brings.  But he's got to be able to survive first, and having the pet wasn't helping him.

    I'm all for experimenting and trying different combinations.  I play an Mo/Rt as a smiting/channeling Rit!  But that's not something I probably would've done right out of the box!   (Even people who have teamed with me remarked what an interesting build I had, and I got them through Master's on Taking Back the Palace with it!)

    He'll be fine with the pet once he gets some of his other issues addressed, but for now, I think the advice I gave him was pretty sound.  Read the rest of the thread before jumping in.

    upgrading armor really helped.. i managed to beat atheas ashes quest now but still working around. i still haven't found a vigor rune yet but eventually will. and haven't found the perfect sword yet but ill keep looking also.

    Add the names I gave you in an earlier post to your friend's list (type the N as in "name").  If you see me in-game, give me a shout.  I'll trick you out with a max sword and shield.

    Good luck.
