Bioware's E3 presentation is done. No news on the mmo. Bioware's next expo is next month at the Penny Arcade Expo. So I guess we will have to wait till then to HOPEFULLY here anything about the mmo. But I think they won't annouce till next year.
Wrong. BioWare is due to Debut a game tomorrow, 17th. Not saying this will be their MMO, but it stands to reason it is, since DragonAge has been revealed for a while now and a Debut is something -new-.
Wait and see.
Where did you get the info. Give us a link. If there is a debut, My bet is on Mass Effect 2 or The Bioware/Lucasarts Star Wars Project.

I know. Nothing. No news, no coverage, no video. I'm a little confused why there's not even an inkling of a report. XD
At least we know its a star wars mmo. The boss of EA confirmed it in an interview. Go to Portfolio.com if you don't believe me. But I hope they show the video.
This article from July 16th 2008 has some pretty interesting stuff - possibly having to do with the MMORPG but don't read too much into it because mostly it's 'MMORPG Design Theory' and what if you made an MMORPG off a single player RPG. Still, a great read - here's the part that really made me raise my eyebrows:
GameSpy: It's inevitable now that people are going to speculate as to whether or not BioWare's upcoming MMO is set in the Dragon Age universe. Whether or not this is true, do you think single-player RPGs and MMOs based on the same settings could benefit from any sort of synergy?
Greg Zeschuk: There's no real relationship per se that we can talk about, but the high level is that, if that was the case, there's probably two levels of stuff that you can do that would be pretty cool. One of them is story. One thing that single-player is so effective at is building that sense of the world, and creating the feeling around what's there, what's the history, what's the culture. Between the multiplayer and single-player game, there's this chance to sort of build it out, like, "What is the world?" You see something like World of Warcraft, though it didn't come from single-player [RPGs], it came from, funny enough, RTS games, but they were really story-heavy RTS games, which is a funny way to get there, but a very effective way to get there.
Another thing is, there's probably no reason you couldn't have some kind of connected login. You almost think it would be a little bit the Battlenet concept. It was Diablo II, where you could play on their servers, but offline, and then you could jump in with other people... it's neat to have the ability to do that. Passing things from the games to each other is also kind of cool -- not story, but content of some sort. You know, you play and get a code in the single-player, or you get some kind of secret password that you could then, in the multiplayer game, that opens some kind of new raid zone, or something.
GameSpy: It seems like not many of the big MMOs are utilizing their IPs in this way, doesn't it?
Greg Zeschuk: The funny thing about making games is that on some level, there's no end of good ideas, but the ability to implement those is limited. It's such an investment and endeavor to make a game, and one of the things that people don't realize is that to really do it right, you have to have a really dedicated team that's super-passionate, and really wants to do it. Those are the things that are the limiting factors in making games, but if you can solve that, you can make amazing stuff.
Some less than ecouraging words to read... Now I'm not saying I'm not happy there's a Star Wars MMORPG by BioWare [We're still legally in denial, right BioWare? Ah well...] but... THIS doesn't look like something very 'revolutionary' to MMORPG design. Could be wrong of course... I'm just saying it looks like what is currently considered a 'WoW Clone'.
Tough just because it will cater well to 'what's popular' doesn't mean it will be a bad game at all... in fact I still think it will be a brilliant game just because BioWare is developing it... and it doesn't mean there won't be a 'SANDBOX' element to the whole thing as well as all of the popular MMORPG features currently being copied over and over by every MMORPG developer.:

***All applicants must submit project work with their resume***
Send in an example project that demonstrates your ability to develop or analyze the complexities of RPG game math. One option would be to do something which showcases your understanding of the intricacies of the RPG elements in an existing MMO, such as World of Warcraft, Everquest 2 or City of Heroes. Examples include:
? A spreadsheet or website demonstrating a thorough understanding of another game?s inner workings.
? A design for a new class or system designed to fit into and augment the design of an existing massively multiplayer title.
Here an interesting statement by a Bioware employee about Riccitiello's announcement:
"We've got two of the most compelling MMOs in the industry in development," said Riccitiello. The first title, based on the Warhammer property, will launch soon. "And the one that people are dying for us to talk to them about -- in partnership with Lucas, coming out of BioWare, which is, I think, quite possibly the most anticipated game, full stop, for the industry at the point when we get closer to telling you about it."
Does Riccitiello mean the oft rumored Knights of the Old Republic Online? "Yes," he said.
Shortly thereafter, everyone at BioWare received an e-mail from marketing noting that there have been recent rumors about what we may or may not be doing for the MMO, and instructing us to have no comment on any of these rumors, because the title is still confidential and has in no way been announced yet.
Per company orders, I most certainly have no comment on what MMO we are making, and will not respond to any questions on such.
That said, when the guy in charge of the company explicitly answers yes when asked about the identity of the MMO, one might question whether something is actually still confidential. One might consider that, say, trying to make semantic arguments about what has or has not been announced is perhaps not the kind of spin control that is most germane to the situation at hand. Giving a flat "yes" is often taken in casual circles as confirmation.

"In the process of centralizing its IT infrastructure for several years, EA discovered that not enough emphasis had been placed on performance. "People wanted to force [centralization] to save X amount of dollars," said Ruben Cortez, chief network architect at EA."
And if you Google "Ruben Cortez" EA together, second hit is a dead page, but the cached version says this:
"Ruben Cortez was the Lead Network Engineer for Ultima Online, the massively multiplayer, persistent state world game by Origin Systems, a subsidiary of Electronic Arts, Inc. Released in Sept. of 1997, UO continues unto this day with network & server presence in 6 countries, on 4 continents, and almost 200,000 active subscribers. Ruben left Origin at the end of 1999 to join EA.com, the online venture of Electronic Arts and AOL. As Sr. Manager of Network Infrastructure, he is currently architecting and building the largest online gaming network in the world."
Here's my question... What are the odds that someone with the name Ruben Cortez from right near Austin, Texas would register the domain swtor.com, and also be the name of an EA network engineer that was the Lead Engineer for Ultima Online?

Does that mean anything, you think?

This is just a generic cybersquatting site. The design is not professional enough for LA or Bioware.
