I know, I know and I tryed many of them, but all besides EVE realy do look ugly and choppy. I'm far from beeing a graphic whore, hell, I realy like all of the GTA games but I can't take half life 1 now and play it like something new and fun, it's still ugly and it hurts my eyes, similar to some older MMORPGs, they might have some deeper and more chalenging systems, but not enough to actualy justify the uglyness and lack of polish compared to WoW.
To drag me away from WoW, but without any real inovation, a game would have to be as polished as WoW and set in a SF setting.
I know what you mean. I'd love to play DAoC but it shows its age, the animations are too choppy and that's the killer for me. I've tried the trial many times, even with friends, but still can't get past the animations (jump lag looks silly) to get to the gameplay.
Honestly, I did not find leveling to 70 with any of my two characters to feel like "grinding". I just went through and experienced the content and in the process leveled - Having one character horde and another alliance helped change the pace for me and allowed me to select which zones I wanted to go through.
I'm actually looking forward to the expansion because...well, it is new content for me to play through. I don't raid, I'm a casual player - by many definitions - and I am just now rounding out some of my reputations (yes, those are grinds, for the most part).
While I enjoy many aspects of the game, and dislike some others, I don't feel that leveling in WoW is grinding at all - And once the new leveling changes go into effect for 1-60 in patch 2.3, it will become 50% quicker than it is today.
I dont get the "faster levling thing". why add levels and make it faster to level? won't it just end up taking the same amount of time anyway?
It will take less time from 20-60 so that you can experience the newer content. They want you to buy the expansion. There's not a real compelling reason for you to do that if you are only level 37. They are not trying to make it take less time to get to the max level, just quicker to get to 60.
Wow is so big now, that i think that it won't be just one game that will kill it.
I think it will be a mix between a couple of really nice games, and a bad expansion pack that will take a majority of the player base. But even after that i think there will be enough players for blizz to keep wow going.
Remember, they aimed for a player base of around 500k...
WoW Doesn't need a expansion to suck. It already sucks. I used to waste my life doing the same thing over and over in games like WoW. Never again. You know you can play single player games that do not cost by the month to play and get the same satisfaction. All you do in wow is the same thing over and over. Grind, Grind, Grind, Grind, Grind, Raid, Raid, Raid, Raid, Raid, Grind some more to raid, Grind, Grind, Grind, Grind, Raid, Raid, Raid, Raid, Raid.

No if anything the new expansion will save wow. I dont play wow anymore quit it around may this year, but the expansion and the upcomming patch does address some key issues that stopped me playing.
One was how they ruined av, it used to be a fun bg. And the other is the lack of proper world pvp, this is getting addressed with that new pvp only area and the fix to av which looks like it might actually work although ill wait and see.
They are also improving 40-50 leveling, since they are apparently adding 60 quests to dustwallow march and increasing experience rates all though i would of preferred more quests then the quick fix 30% increased experience.
No idea if they are fixing balance i doubt it honestly. And most likely the expansion will still be aimed primarly at raiders but they look like they are fleshing out the game to cater to the majority of the population.
Most people that will leave wow are pvpers at the end of the day, and they arent a large part of wows population despite the fact i am a pvper anyone who really thinks pvpers are prevalent in wow are a bit disillustioned.
Warhammer will effect wow but it wont kill it and most likely it will be lucky to reach 1 million customers, i predict 500k to 600k subscribers max. Age of conan wont make a dent, it has high system requirements and a mature rating that automatically cuts off 3/4 of wows population.
Im looking forward to pirates of the burning sea personally anyway, sick of everquest clones like wow tbh.

i guess you dont really know just how big warhammer is. its like LOTRO it will easily hit that million mark as release but weather or not it can keep them will be something else. LOTRO couldnt i think WAR will it takes pvp to a new level and is making it appealing to everyone. WoW pvp is a joke its who has the better gear, not skill. yes when its teir 6 vs tier 6 or w/e it comes down to skill. but when i played people who outgeared me they won just beacuase i couldnt take down their health or outdamage then. i played some pretty stupid 70s in good gear but i just couldnt take out their health. and what little wow pvpers there are that say pve servers are carebear thats just crap. getting ganked is pointless cuz its 70s who cant beat 70s. war is doing away with that and if you call that carebear then your a bad pvper as it you were good you would want to say in the high lvl area and play people your level. idk much bout AoC but i know WAR is very promiseing.
Hold on Snow Leopard, imma let you finish, but Windows had one of the best operating systems of all time.

WTF are you talking about where have i said warhammer is carebear exactly? and news flash warhammer has the same combat system as wow where level and gear matter. Also pvp in wow is a lot less gear based than it used to be, those that pvp get gear that is good for pvp and those that pve get gear that is good for pve.
neither one is that much different in power anymore either, it doesnt give you a huge advantage to raid like it used to, in fact all it does is make you progress better in pve and have a slight advantage over low rating teams with little to no pvp gear.
Levels still play a part like they do in warhammer, and so does class imbalance, which most likely will play a part in warhammer as well this is the guys who made dark age of camelot after all.
Btw warhammer is a populer IP but it is a pvp game which is a lot smaller niche than pve is,so it will be lucky to get 1 million subscribers although its being watered down even more than wow so who knows. Lord of the rings is arguably a much more populer IP than warhammer ever has or will be and look how that game has done so less assumptions would do you well you probably wont be as disapointed if warhammer doesn't do as well as you hope.
Btw how do you know if im a good pvper or not, have i mentioned anything about how well i did in pvp not like it would matter wow is not a skill based game, nor is warhammer going to be despite what people may make you believe but it does look like it will be more balanced than wows pvp.
Also i rarely ganked nor do i call people on pve servers carebears even though i leveled all 5 of my 70s on pvp servers. ( a hunter, rogue, druid was my main character, warrior, and a mage) Also leveled warlock to 56 before i got bored of the game a quit also did that on a pvp server.
And after resiseleance (sp?) was added the only time i was beaten in pvp was when i came across my counter class or a favour of the month class. So although what you said about 70s not being able to kill 70s in better gear before that patch is true, it wasn't after the patch.
Btw you sound like you want to play a skill based game, where you cant gank, levels dont matter nor does gear, i would suggest checking out pirates of the burning sea gives you some options if warhammer is crap

Also yes this is mostly pvp which means its pvp will be more balanced. Yes, but how can you kill something that is already dead?
Lack of basic understanding of player psychology killed it... That and the horrifically primitive core RPG mechanics... and carebearism... and laziness of imagination on the devs' part.. etc...
It did set a new standard of technical quality but at the expense of almost everything else.
It is sad that the game enjoyed so much success. It has set back the whole MMORPG genre 10 years back (UO was a much much more sophisticated game at its core). And it scared off all other devs from publishing anything decent or innovative these past 3 years (no, LotR does not count). I /spit on its grave.

If they didnt do this new players would never be able to catch up to older players and the game would die very quickly.
Its not that hard to catch up with people. Especially if you have friends that give you good items and power level you. Even soloing you can get to 70 now in about 2 weeks. Theres nothing really hard about the game, it just takes some time, and doing instances over and over and over until you get your items. Its so easy a caveman can do it.
Don't be terrorized! You're more likely to die of a car accident, drowning, fire, or murder! More people die every year from prescription drugs than terrorism LOL!
There's no way the new expansion could kill WOW. Lots of people love the way the end game is set up, lots of others are too addicted to quit even if they wanted to.
Nothing is gonnna kill WoW. The expansion may tick off a few ppl but they will have two other nice games to turn to, WAR and AoC. The first expansion of WoW, ppl did not have this luxury. They had Vanguard and Lotro. Now they are back in Azeroth. WoW will be here when Darkfall and Duke Nukem Forever release.
WoW will just die as new MMO's come out, no specific MMO will kill WoW, the game will just be outdated in a couple of years... by then people will be looking for something new i think.
So for those who seemed to have just got thru the 60 - 70 grind how are you facing the now looming 70 - 80 grind? Just finished Kara for about everyne here, working on SSC and Temple. Guild still tryign to get it together after the drop from 40 man instances and huge guilds to 10 - 25 man guild where elietest guild members got to go to Kara and you did not. Honestly, the termoil in so many guild cause breakups, newer smaller guilds, guilds failing. What will happen if the 40 man is the new norm again? What about the SSC / Temple loot that will be replaced by greens when you hit level 72? For me, it has put a horrible taste in my mouth. When work myself to death killing in PvE and raiding every night only to find that my Epics are again garbage? Post what you think!
I think you don't understand MMORPG's. Why is this shocking you?
tbh they should of just landed the expansion near the time of completion, as now most ppl dont want to do raids and stuff as they will just end up like in wow's case MC and ZG. That is what got me abit played wow since it came out... got to 70 and then they said about lich king expansion which totally took me of the game abit as i thought, no point going to raids wont need the gear. kind of ended up quitting the game after that.

You should play for fun, not gear.
And who are you to dictate what Raikkonen finds fun? Perhaps he finds getting new things to be the most enjoyable aspect of WOW. If he's level 70 currently he's definitely not getting new levels, obviously the only way for him to progress is to gain new gear.
Personally I think adding levels is the worst way to handle your expansion. TBC should have been all new 1-60 content with a few new raids, perhaps some raids entry level and some raids above and beyond Naxx. Variety is what is lacking, forced into linear progressions.

I know what you mean. I'd love to play DAoC but it shows its age, the animations are too choppy and that's the killer for me. I've tried the trial many times, even with friends, but still can't get past the animations (jump lag looks silly) to get to the gameplay.

Remember, they aimed for a player base of around 500k...
no
WoW Doesn't need a expansion to suck.
Bah, Boring as hell if you ask me.
PD:
Warhammer will kill it. nuff said..
If the Powerball lottery was like Lotro, nobody would win for 2 years, and then everyone in Nebraska would win on the same day.

WTF are you talking about where have i said warhammer is carebear exactly? and news flash warhammer has the same combat system as wow where level and gear matter. Also pvp in wow is a lot less gear based than it used to be, those that pvp get gear that is good for pvp and those that pve get gear that is good for pve.i guess you dont really know just how big warhammer is. its like LOTRO it will easily hit that million mark as release but weather or not it can keep them will be something else. neither one is that much different in power anymore either, it doesnt give you a huge advantage to raid like it used to, in fact all it does is make you progress better in pve and have a slight advantage over low rating teams with little to no pvp gear.
Btw you sound like you want to play a skill based game, where you cant gank, levels dont matter nor does gear, i would suggest checking out pirates of the burning sea gives you some options if warhammer is crap

sorry wasnt really aimed at you just saw some pointlessflame threads and kinda got carried away here. yes LOTRO IP has way more fans but WAR has a lot too. Also yes this is mostly pvp which means its pvp will be more balanced. In wow pvp was added. in war pvp is the base so even pve fans should have fun playing the pvp in war. the RvR content has tons for everyone to do. and after all the public quest which are pve and pvp play a huge role in the "war" so if they dont particulary want to pvp to push the war rthey cna do public quest.

np, personally im not interested in warhammer, and more in pirates of the burning sea, but i still hope warhammer does well, pvp games that are build from the ground up for pvp never really have huge numbers its a shame because its part of the reason theres so little choice in the industry for games that aren't everquest version 1324423523532545.sorry wasnt really aimed at you just saw some pointlessflame threads and kinda got carried away here. yes LOTRO IP has way more fans but WAR has a lot too. To answer the OP:
Yes, but how can you kill something that is already dead?
Lack of basic understanding of player psychology killed it... That and the horrifically primitive core RPG mechanics... and carebearism... and laziness of imagination on the devs' part.. etc...
It did set a new standard of technical quality but at the expense of almost everything else.
It is sad that the game enjoyed so much success. It has set back the whole MMORPG genre 10 years back (UO was a much much more sophisticated game at its core). And it scared off all other devs from publishing anything decent or innovative these past 3 years (no, LotR does not count). I /spit on its grave.

yes i agree when a game trys something different its labled niche since its not a clone of EQ. i have looked into PotBS and it does look inetersting. though right now im playing EQ2 and TR beta.

New content isn't a bad thing but they keep on voiding everyone's work every year now.
I think you don't understand MMORPG's. Why is this shocking you?
"New content isn't a bad thing but they keep on voiding everyone's work every year now."
What is the point of the expansion if it doesn't upgrade and expand what is already there?
My first car was a 1982 Corolla, but I didn't get angry when they made an '83 or an '84.
Progress.
That Guild Wars 2 login screen knocked up my wife. Must be the second coming!
