I think the nudity will bring in some kiddies and some immature attitudes, but overall I feel it is positive. I'm a huge Conan geek, loved it since I could read, and I've been following the development of this game like an overprotective she-bear. Thus far, Funcom have made all the right moves, done all the right things in my opinion.
Nudity, sex, sensuality and male-female relationships (and the troubles therein) form a cornerstone for a lot of the Conan tales. In many ways, its the male analog of the 'bodice ripper' romance novel, with added sword and sorcery. Got to love those half-naked princesses.
Something to bear in mind (which others here have touched on) is that the blasé attitude shown by the majority of parents to their little angels playing gory games will evaporate (like beer at a Cimmerian booze-up) when they suddenly realise that the human body is on display:
"Oh my GOD! That woman has breasts and you can see the nipples! Johnny, you can't play THAT game, here have this copy of GTA: Old Ladies Must Die!"
It's just nudity.... I don't see the big problem. I've seen plenty of breasts and it's not a big deal to me. I just won't associate with idiots who feel like giggling like school girls when the see nipples....

Maybe it will hurt the community a little bit in the beginning, but I dont think it would be any long-term damage done to the game concerning the nudity. And to be honest, even though I, being and adult and all, have seen/touched/nibbled etc... my share of boobs , I still love em to bits, pixelated or not. Only difference is that the reaction to seeing them nowadays aint that big as it was when I was a teen. Curse of being an heterosexual I guess

Well, how one takes nudity is really a cultural/social thing than anything else. Certain religious groups have really strict view on sex and nudity. American versus Europeans also have quite a different view and tolerance level in general. And the cap is even wider when you compare Scandinavians to Americans for example.
Philosophically speaking you must really ask yourself what makes your own view right in comparison to others. Are your ethics and morality somehow superior to other people? Or have you not perhaps considered views of other cultures and social circles and try to understood their perceptions of the world.
This game is marketed as a mature title. It is based on fictional world that has many historical references to the real world, but usually with a twist. If Funcom really wants to portray that world accurately they really cannot apply moral standards of today's world or it will lose immersion. The fact is that one only has to open a history book and he will find most of these things there and often in much more grotesque manner. Why hide them? Once, by certain cultures, these things were considered a norm, and thus morally sound. It was not that long ago when slavery was still legal even in the Western world.

I have been waiting so long to be able to see naked girls on the internet, why didnt someone think of this sooner, this is going to be so awesome. Think of it...no more troll girls dancing in underwear..now we get to see human girls dancing in nothing!!
I am going to make a morbidly obese female toon and then when some kid starts needing someone to shut up I am going to log her and find him and make him stab out his eyes.

Kids make up a huge segment of the gaming market and always will (limited responsibilities, no job, free time, etc..) The whole idea behind on-line games is to have a massively populated on-line game and AoC is really putting themselves at a disadvantage. I don't see the game reaching over 250-400k subs in the states (if the game is released in a very well polished form) and those numbers might be high. I do hope AoC proves me wrong and turns out to be a great game.
The aurgument is that kids will be attracted to this stuff and they will. However, many reasonable parents I would assume, will not buy nor let their children play the game.

GTA was a very successful game, and it was 18 years old. I don't see why Conan would do bad simply because it's rated mature either. Not to mention that it's the only good MMO i know that will be that way. (Second life doesn't count in my book if you're a "true" gamer)
With that said, i'll be playing War Hammer online and i wish they would go the same way. But i'll keep a close eye on Aoc and if it's any good, i'll probably play it on my 360 if War turns out to be a disapointment.

Nudity shouldn't be a problem in the real world, but it is. Some people are more afraid of boobies than they are of guns. And that says something terribly sad about our world. I think it is silly that this issue is being made into a big deal. These are our bodies. Pixelated or not, they should be treated as normal as seeing a tree on the street or in a game. I see it as a negative. I am well over the age for mature content games, but I fully enjoy games without boobs and simulated sex. I've never played a game and thought, well this would be so much more immersive if someone was naked nor do I think it would be more realistic.
However, when I was a young teenager this would peek my interest to no end. Seeing NPCs urinate, naked computer characters, fade to black sex is just the thing that appealed to me when full of teen hormones. Add to that the whole "taboo" of playing a game that you should not be playing is just to much temptation for kids to resist.
Do I think adding "mature" content will attract more adults, no. Plenty of games do just fine and I don't see anyone asking for it to be added. Do I think it will attract the wrong sort of kids, yes.
I don't have strong feelings either way. I'm interested to see how the addition of partial nudity affects customer acceptance and player demographics, if at all.
I will be watching in-game for player reactions to displays of skin.
anyone who thinks that the "Mature" content combined with the current release date of around the time when school gets out isnt related doesnt know a thing about promotions. The nudity, the mature sex theme, will only add to the kiddy factor in this game because it will make it cool to younger kids. It is definately , absolutely, positively a very bad thing.

One would like to think that everyone matures mentaly with age but that isn't always the case.

I dont want many kids in my MMO's anyways Thats one of the main things that killed WoW for me. Yes they will get a hold of it but thats up to the parents to lock certain adult themed items away from them. I know my kids wont be playing it.
Heck if there is going to be nudity, lets make it consistent between the sexes, male and female. People don't want nudity in a game, but it's ok to kill and have gore. It will be part of the atmosphere (wenches and prostitutes) and will be hinted at or even overt in your interactions with NPCs, but it won't be shown or anything you can actually do within the game. There was talk in the beginning by having some buffs associated with what goes on behind closed doors, but nothing definitive. As far as I was told, there will be no drug usage in AoC as there was in like SWG (drugs were used for buffs that often had serious downers). Poisons will be predominate (lotus).
*How naked will players (particularly female players) be able to get?
-Depends on the rating board. The females are designed to be completely topless, at the moment they have some flimsy cover, but it is only a matter of what they can get away with by having an M rating. Anything that will give the game an AO rating will be cut or covered up.
