EVERY mmo uses the standard bs.. kill 10 of this.. take this thing over there cuz I'm to lazy. Unless its skill based.. aka UO before EA ruined it or SWG before LEC/SOE ruined it.
Ya, with skill based, kill 100s or 1000s of rats to level up, your skills.
Do not hate the OP because he speaks the truth. You cannot argue with the truth, and everyoen that has posted against him has proved that. "WAR" will be nothing new and almost like WoW, I know this for a fact (guess you know why..). So please WAR fans dont hate people like the OP, he is just trying to save you from a huge let down when its released and you cant figure out if your still playing WoW, because they are SO similar.
I don't care if the interface, quest system, or anything else is like WoW which is like EQ which is similar to DAoC which resembles some damn thing that appeared in UO. I want the RvR in a current generation MMO format. If that ONE thing works I'll be happy. No matter wtf you say about WoW's PvP, I know that it's a steaming pile of crap and that it has nothing on some good RvR. See DAoC or L2 for some cool meaningful RvR.

So, it will be wow but without forced raids for end game, without never ending grind for uber gear, it will be focused on pvp, with world pvp and pvp objectives in the world that matter... I am there And so are a lot of people who quit wow or playing it while they wait for a new game to come out.
Just because some people want somethign amazingly new (to the point it has nothing similar to current mmos) doesn't mean that there isn't a demand for the same good ol' gameplay with a different twist.
Mythic is going to do the same thign with war to wow as they did with daoc to eq (hey, daoc was a clone of eq1 too, well, daoc had rvr... sounds famaiilar O_o)
EVERY mmo uses the standard bs.. kill 10 of this.. take this thing over there cuz I'm to lazy.

Ya, with skill based, kill 100s or 1000s of rats to level up, your skills.
So true.. the last time I decided to be a Commando in Pre-CU SWG... it took me one entire day to master it. It normally only takes me 8 hours to hit 70 in EQ2...
Altho I must admit with the proper setup I could hit 50 in DAoC faster than I could master a profession in SWG pre-cu.
Oh and btw.. if you figured how many mobs it takes to level in a level based game.. a few 1000 or even a few 10,000's for a skill based game would be pretty unimpressive... *rolls eyes*
Anyway that's avoiding the OP... (oh and it was supposed to be funny... yes I Know text doesn't translate intent often)
Back to the OP... skill based games.. were actually just rip offs of WoW as well.
You notice in WoW when you level you see your skills increase...

It isn't the quests, it is the way they are done and how you go about them. I play games because I find them FUN. Remember when people did that? Play because it is fun, not because X amount of players are playing it or because Y is hyped to be the next biggest thing.
If I have to kill 10 rats, so be it. But, create a fun way to do it. Also, I laugh when people complain about having to do these quests right away. You do little quests for people to prove to them that you can do harder and harder tasks. Nobody in their right mind asks somebody to go slay a dragon to save some chick in games unless they have proven themselves first.
As you level up there is a need to again kill 10 Humans now or kill 10 Orcs to prove to your quest giver than you deserve to do the harder quests for better rewards.
MMO RPG. Role Playing Game. You do not have to play in character but think like one for a second. Your character has no idea what else in the world is out there but he wants to prove himself to the quest giver and the cities that he can save them from the rat infestation. You can't just remove something out of a game just because all the other games have it. Would you want them to take out PvP because it has been done in tons of other games? No.
Antarious, if you don't like EA or Mythic/WAR, please go elsewhere. It's a waste of your time, not to mention completely moronic. Go play a game that you like, and stop playing the fool who invokes trouble elsewhere.
In actuallity, this goes to everyone who feels the need to come and sign on just to speak wrong of Warhammer. Stop wasting your time.
WoW wasn't the first MMO of it's kind and it's guaranteed not to be the last. The only thing you can do about it is accept it and move on. MMO's use ideas from each other more frequently than you'd realize.

I do not think WAR fans are looking for something original and groundbreaking - I know I certainly am not.
I am looking for a game with solid PvE and PvP combined in some logical way, with current MMORPG mechanics and graphics. That is it, and WAR seems to fit the bill.
I am not looking for something revolutionary and, if I was, I would not be following WAR, as it has never promised to be that. It is basically an updated version of DAoC set in the Warhammer world, with a lot of mechanics integrated from currently successful games, such as the ever-maligned WoW.
People who keep coming to these forums to post "This game is going to be the same old thing! It is not revolutionary!" and whatnot need to understand that we realize that. You are not clever, you are not a visionary, and you are not saying anything new.
So, just move along and complain in the next forum.

I don't suppose you happened to play DAoC at release? Many of the same people behind that game are making WAR and it was not simply a grind for gear, as a matter of fact you didn't get gear at all from PvP you fought because it was fun! That is Mythics goal with WAR to make PvP fun again and not just a gear/faction/rep grind which WoW has made MMO players equate with PvP. In addition these are the same people who basically invented instanced team PvP and have been working out the kinks with it for years.
Sure you can get gear from PvP in WAR, as a matter of fact they make it sound as if you can almost completely skip PvE if you want and PvP through the whole game, beginning to end. No one has made a game like this to date, so labelling it as WoW cloan 1234 is retarded on the best of days. I'm personally stoked to finally have a game where I can do what I like and that is compete, without being forced into incredible time sinks (raids) to have the necessary gear to do that.
Don't get me wrong its still not my idea of the perfect game because they have made far too many decisions for the players before the box is even cracked open, ie... class system rather than skill based, race restrictions, side restrictions, etc... I'm waiting for a game more like Darkfall claims to be or an updated less buggy version of SB with some tweaks, but WAR will do for the time being if it delivers what it has promised.

Thus killing the Hardcore pvper and bringing in a new genre of "Hardcore" pvpers. Try claiming lands and having to defend them. NO tby hitting beacons that say HEY THIS IS OURS. Not by being alarmed that "Your dungeon is being attacked by allegiance X" By actaully paying attention and making it part of your responsibility to you rallegiance to actually defend your territory. By fighting off many other players being able to control some of the highest exp and drop that your allegiance can take control of.
Its not encessarily the game that pisses me off, its the kids (no not saying your one of them) that claim their hardcore pvpers but the notion of losing something at death or having to actually defend something makes them whine.
Personally, I'm all for PvP with Purpose. It's griefing I can't stand, and why I usually don't get involved in PvP. But DAoC set a standard for RvR play and it worked very well. If WAR just turns out to be an updated version of DAoC (which is, admittedly, getting on in years), then is this such a bad thing? Is taking a very good base and building upon it bad? I don't think so.
I also love the idea of the tiered system of RvR. This idea lets we who are rather new to RvR get into it right from the start, rather than levelling up grinding monsters to a high level, only to find ourselves completely outclassed when it comes to fighting the harder core PvPers (*cough* EVE *cough*). The "new thing" WAR seems to add to RvR is this progression. I also like the idea of the quest systems. Sure, we know there's gonna be the same o' quests, but at least there's some twists in them. I love the bears example in the early video, for instance. I can't count the number of times I've held off killing something because I know I have to get to an NPC who's gonna ask for them, and I don't want to deplete the spawn. Having a game mechanism that actually remembers what I've killed BEFORE I find that NPC is great!
I'm also glad to see that they're not going for twitch combat but remaining true to the RPG style of fighting. I'm bad enough at combat as it is, and the twitch style not only makes me worse, it tires me out and I don't spend as much time playing as I would otherwise. I could fight for hours in UO or pre-NGE SWG, but TR tires me out in about an hour. So, unlike AoC which will feature a lot of "fast action" combat, I'm happy to see WAR stay traditional.
So, is this a "standard" mmorpg? I actually hope so. I hope they build on what's good about successful "standard" mmorpgs like DAoC and not try to add in stuf that makes the games less accessible to the hand-eye-coordination challenged. I'd like to see them do something complex with crafting as well, but I'm pretty well resigned to never seeing anything as wonderful as pre-CU SWG again in my lifetime. I can only hope that crafted gear will at least be competitive with decent loot. I prefer systems where ALL the gear is crafted and the critters drop parts to be used in crafting (pre-CU SWG, Horizons, Ashen Empires), but I've pretty well accepted that those days are gone. A shame too, but the linearity of today's MMOs is driven by the gear and rewards, so there it is.
I'm actually beginning to look foward to Warhammer Online far more than I thought I would.

I will give credit that DAOC did start this whole cookie cutter franchise which, if i created the game, would be completely EGo boosting, and i give them full credit and wont reallly bash them for using their own damn idea lol.
This is the basic standard of todays MMO's. Im hoping that AOC and Darkfall will successfully break away from this, since its in my opinion that those have funner combat.
