The last 20k subs of SWG should probably cancel now.

The writing is on the wall, we all know that Bioware is making Kotor online now.  Between the rumors, interviews, and Bioware/Lucasarts anouncment yesterday that they have been working on a project together.  The only reason we don't have an official anouncment  is that SOE still officially has the rights to Star Wars online.

I'd hate to see the last of the SWG community get screwed because they are holding out some last hope that SOE might actually do right by them.  SOE has their 4th or 5th string dev team on SWG now.  SOE has no expansions planned, and I'm sorry but those chapter publishes are not new content.  Their is no money being put behind this game anymore because when the contract is up it's going to Bioware.

Soe wants you to bieleve that the game is going strong because they want your subscription money for as long as possible.

Don't let them screw you over  like they did with the Vets.

Yes they just added 3 new devs that start next week (and DeadMeat stated that is a net increase in the dev team numbers), Chapter 7 goes live tomorrow with ALL NEW content. Chapter 8 content now includes a ALL NEW boardable space station, many new ships including new POB's.

Give it up this game is not going away, go stand in line for the new Bioware product, I will be playing and enjoying the current game for years before you get into that game.

*sigh* we are talking years before this game emerges...

I really cant see the point in getting excited and patiently waiting for a game that may not even see the light of day.

Just seems like more veteran disgruntled SWG fans.

Now playing: VG (after a long break from MMORPGS)
Played for more than a month: Darkfall online, Vanguard SOH, Everquest, Horizons, WoW, SWG, Everquest II, Eve

Sorry, its not going away anytime soon...regardless of what the Bioware/LA announcement turns out to be....

(my bet is against KOTOR online...more likely KOTOR 3)

Interesting thread to say the least

I don't play SWG anymore, however I think I would re-sub about a week before they pull the plug. Just to pay my last respects to a game that at one time brought me hours of enjoyment.

They shouldn't pull the plug.  What they should do is condense the servers.  They should have maybe 2 pve servers,  2 pvp servers, and maybe 1 precu server.  That's it.

It may not be KOTOR 3, however the MMORPG that BioWare and Lucas Arts are working on will be a STARWARS title. It could be STARWARS GALAXIES 2.

Make no mistake...IT WILL BE  SOME FORM OF STARWARS MMORPG!

    Yeah, congrat....

I logged in on the vet trial in september to check things out. Guess what? The unbearable rubberbanding through all planets. I'm not saying it's there for ever and sure it is fixable, but it gave me very well-known feeling - this game is so so very broken. (not getting into whole "who and why broke it" thing. How will you enjoy that enchanced old badge thingie if you actually can't travel around??? if not that there will be broken smth else. Star Wars MMO has to be started from the scratch. Too broken

Yes, 99.9% positive feedback... you know, that sounds soooo familiar. After the CU, feedback was 'positive' as well. Not really surprising, if you consider the mass bannings and deletions. Same for the 'test' feedback for the NGE. Of course, most people had ONE look on test, than cancelled.

As to the hiring of new devs: very big LOL. Even if they are actually adding to the NUMBERS, that doesn't say a thing about quality, or even long-term goals.

SOE dev quality... well... someone noticed a while back that a surprising number of people who are now working for other companies, show SOE as their first ever employer. He concluded

    - SOE hires em straight out of school

    - As soon as they're out of the apprentice stage, they get the hell out of Dodge

    Would explain a lot....

    That's cool man!

I'm glad you still find the game enjoyable. What I wouldn't give to be in your shoes and have that magic feeling again. After playing pre-CU, pre-NGE I must say, that I gave it a try and just couldn't play the current game.

It's like seeing your world in color only to have that ability taken away. Life in black and white sucks man. A man could recieve the finest food in the world...but if his taste buds have been removed, you simply can't enjoy it.

I wish you all the best and I hope the powers that be never ruin your game.

I'll hold my judgment for now, but I sure as heck want to see it done. I really do hope it is a new SW MMO, whether its KOTOR:O or SWG2. I know it'll take at least a couple of years until it's even released since they've been working on it since 2005, but man I want to see it come true badly.

I had stopped playing SWG years ago but I do enjoy reading these forums.  I especially like the Veteran Refuge because there are times that posters bring up some of the good things that SWG brought to the table.  What I do hate is when people come in here and start proclaiming how wonderful things are.  Do us all a favor, leave us to moan and groan in the REFUGE area, praise the game in the the active player forum.  If you are a current player of SWG what the heck are you doing in the VETRAN REFUGE area?

Troll somewhere else.  Oh, Outlaw, its CIAO not CHOW, moron.

Maybe we should go en masse to the active forums and create a ton of threads proclaiming LA/Bioware's new MMO just to annoy them the same way??? he he

BANE!  Great idea.  I might just do that after the trick-or-treaters stop coming by!

Yeah.......the majority of the feedback was positive after the NGE as well.  We were just a vocal minority then, I wonder what SOE thinks of us now?  Going from 300k subs to 20k subs does tend to make you introspective.

Oh yeah I almost forgot, If SWG is in such good shape at the moment why is SOE not producing the retail discs anymore?  Seems to me that if your having this population boom that everyone is talking about that you would want your product on the shelves.  If your response is going to be that most people digitally download these days......then you are a retard.

Well maybe they should cancel but not for that reason. Whats the one thing people are crying for most now in swg?

Server merges, and can anyone possibly believe that SOE would do a server merge beneficial to the players?     I think not,  Soe has already lost 100k plus people whats another 10-20k.

  • No doubt that as more leaks come out about the upcoming Bioware developed KOTORMMO  the subscriber base will collapse even further.

And dont be fooled by the Devs maintaining the illusion that development is going on, the team is getting larger, they have plans, etc.  They will be SAYING that up to the day before the shutdown announcement is made.

They were pretending to discuss CU profession revamps up to a few days before the NGE bombshell, remember?

(and yes, I say pretending because they were definitely defrauding us the whole CU era, they knew the NGE was coming)

I just dont see any way that SWG lasts more than another half year at most.  Especially with SOE being jilted out of the sequel, they just won't have the motivation.

As for them adding a couple more rookies to their already rookie ball (at best) Dev team, did they bother to mention whether he's full time SWG only?  I rather doubt that most of their Devs are full time for SWG, if any actually are.

Ya want to know why there has never been and will never be a server merge.

    1.  The rookie devs they got on SWG now couldn't pull it off.

    2.  Merging servers would mean that SWG is not as strong as SOE says it is and people would get worried.

    3.  SOE would actually have to spend more money merging the servers than it costs to keep those laggy, empty, pieces of crap running.

The only "load" SWG will crash from is the load of BS they fed to their players over the years.

I'm personally betting that Bioware's MMORPG will be based on Mass Effect or their own original I.P, they have stated that they're not working with lucas arts and they even went in a bit of a dispute with them over kotor 2 so I wouldn't get your hopes up on that area guys. Yeah it is stupid that these fanbois come along to the veteran forum just to nag us, I don't know why they do it personally, they know full well why we're pissed off and they know full well that we're never going to trust the company that took away our game ever again.

Quoting people doesn't make you clever, in fact, it makes you all the more stupid for not bothering to read the quotes you post in the first place.
