There have been a great many disappointments where mmo's are concerned, at least for me
Dungeons and Dragon's Online: Here is the great granddaddy of RPG's and a natural fit for mmo's and turbine managed to screw it up. Well, Turbine and WOTC. From the setting, to gameplay, to graphics everything about DDO is/was a disappointment.
Lord of the Rings Online: Here is, for all intents and purposes, the progenitor of the entire Fantasy genre and Turbine once again manages to screw the pooch. Whether or not Tolkien Enterprises has something to do with the flub after flub where LotRO is concerned I dunno. First fugg up? Timeline. Who is the brain that sat there and thought: "Hey! This will be great! We can put a bunch of players in chasing around behind the Fellowship and people will want to be superfluous characters." Then I imagine it is the same brain that says hey, lets throw the lore out the window and we can make cheap knock-off ringwraiths, dragons and balrogs that players can kill. It doesn't matter that a Balrog can basically kill Gandalf players should be able to face off against one!
Star Wars Galaxies: This is the best and most documented screw up in 10 years+ of mmo games. Nuff said :P
Tabula Rasa: From the mind that gave us Ultima and actually gave rpg games a bit of soul we get a cheap lowbrow mmo shooter. *yawn*. Methinks Mr. Garriott hit his head or something on one of his adventures.
I'd vote hellgate the biggest disappointment of the new crop, but this is an mmo site, so that game doesn't apply. So, Tabula Rasa gets my "Crusted Turd of 2007" award.

I dont think Tabula Rasa is that bad, its a bit incomplete but I dont find it THAT bad :O (This im basing off my beta experience, and I bet its a lot better now...) But thats just my opinion.
Shadowbane. The general idea surrounding Shadowbane was interesting (lore was good to) but the overall implementation sucked. When the game released the graphics were already sub-par and the movement wasn't optimal (point and click). It was laggy, buggy, had exploits (dups), pve sucked badly, there was no crafting worth speaking of, the modeling of cities was basic (every player town looked the same), and many other problems. I still played it for multiple years because it offered a lot of character templates for classes and it was a sandbox style game with real risks and consequences (not nearly enough to do in it though).
MMO games played or tested: EQ, DAoC, Archlord, Auto Assault, CoH, CoV, EQ2, EVE, Guild Wars, Hellgate: London, Linneage II, LOTRO, MxO, Planetside, SWG, Sword of the New World, Tabula Rasa, Vanguard, WWIIOL, WOW, Age of Conan
Vanguard it looked like the magic was going to be there to create an awesome game. The team at sigil had very impressive resumes and the ideas where amazing. The probelm is they seemed to not care that the game was way behind schedule, in fact most would say they mislead the people that followed the game, and worse yet it was released it a state that was barely fit for beta imo after beta testers told them hey this game isn't close to being ready.

Hellgate. Never seen anything like it and the worst part is that it could have been amazing.
1.Vanguard. Not even close.
2. Gods and Heroes (does this count?)
"TO MICHAEL!"
vanguard (lol)
gods and heroes
tabula rasa
For 2007, Tabula Rasa was my biggest disappointment.
The loss of Saga of Ryzom.

Vangaurd for me, I was actually excited about it's launch.
HGL second I believed the hype good thing I got into beta a month before release and saw the truth.
EQ2. It's all about raiding and forced grouping.
Vanguard was not a disappointment because I had low expectations to begin with.
I was not stupid enough to play SWG, as I knew it would let everyone down.
So I voted for D&D Online.
It's not disappointment if you see it coming!

I soloed all the time in classic EQ until Planes of Power was released. That expansion ruined the game.
