Is the single player aspect of the game worth the 50 bucks? I dont plan on playing an online instanced game, and if i buy will certainly not subscribe.
So if any1 has played the SINGLE player version of the game, do u think its worth the money?
Comments
For me it was..... even tough i play onoline (no subscription) butt hen nobody even tries to communicate so its just like single player.
I am having fun playing two characters to 50, after that i am probably done...
I am wayting on TCoS
Best MMO experiences : EQ(PvE), DAoC(PvP), WoW(total package) LOTRO (worldfeel) GW2 (Artstyle and animations and worlddesign) SWTOR (Story immersion) TSW (story) ESO (character advancement)
I like the game a lot. It might be the most addictive game, for me, since Diablo II. So, I would say its worth the money. I have played online and off and not encountered any major bugs, but that probably means I've just been lucky. I like that all the classes I have tried really feel different. I like collecting weapons and breaking them down to create things to make my equipment better. I even like NOT knowing when I should use what kind of weapon. So, of course, I am going to say buy it.
Bad things? I see NO reason what so ever to group unless you WANT to play with friends.
I agree
SNIP
This game is pretty good single player I think.
I bought it for multi, which disappointed me, but the single player, or the solo play if you play online, I think is worth the money.
The last single player fantasy romp I enjoyed this much was Dark Messiah of Might and Magic.
Compared to Dark Messiah, Hellgate is not as well story boarded, and the gameplay not as innovative. The combat however is just as fun. It's that same hi tempo blitz speed killing.
Similarly Hellgate is not as enjoyable a romp as the Thief games. It just doesn't have the same depth of storytelling.
It reminds me a lot of those Vampire games. Bloodlines, and The Masquerade. Same sort of action, same sort of game engine, same sort of combat.
It's not the greatest RPG ever, but it is never the less a very solid and addictive one. I think there is a good 30 hours of fun in this title and I'm enjoying it.
It excels in the movie sequences, it's theme and it's combat tempo. There are some entertaining levels thrown in that break up gameplay by getting you man a turret gun or RTS style control some NPC's.
Mostly it's the same old repetative tunnel bash over and over again with a variety of monsters and weapopns that look different but do the same thing. But the combat is fun. It is dynamic and it works.
No. I've played the multiplayer online all solo, which is the same as offline. It ain't worth 50 bucks. At most the game will give you 30 hours of play if you only play one character.
I'm not sure if you can play to goto 50 after beating the normal mode in offline, but the question would be - why?
Stay away from the game for now, it has solid gameplay (combat wise), but everything else is lacking severely, including the story.
If you don't have a group of friends that you play together with, no it is not worth it at the moment.
No. I've played it for a week - and neither single nor multiplayer part is worth 50 bucks. It's not a bad game - but it's not as good as it was hyped before.
Diablo I and II are still better.
Sorry, Bill. Maybe better next time.
Great game if you have friends, if you dont you'll prolly feel lonely, although its still just released give them time to get it goin good
They are making patches for the single player game so at least everyone who doesn't want to play multiplayer won't be stuck with bugs. It would be nice if the single player version did have a shared vault between characters though so you could swap equipment. That is one of the reasons I have mostly been playing multiplayer even though I am not subscribing.
Yep, worth 50$ out of the box. Co-op play is a blast. If you have friends you like to play with then it's great. If you're all alone then not so awesome because there is no LFG system in the game yet and you have to whisper people to invite them to a group.
Single player is quite fine.. fast and furious although, as I said, group play with xfire and people you know is where this game shines.
Agreed.
I finally bought it.
Only a few hours in, but yes its a nice change from elves shooting magic arrows at orcs. The graphics is nice. Those who says its ugly might need to tune their PC or display a bit. I set everything to max and it looks cool.
Action is better than TR. Its the usual diablo configuration of keyboard and mouse, except that the UI is more like MMORPG than diablo look. FPS view is actually fun when playing a rifle guy.
I do not plan on going online yet. The single player is good enough for me. I believe I will be enjoying it till the next major MMORPG launch.
True I only based my view on many hours of watching my friends play it, he played 5-10 hours a day since beta. I only have 3 hours or so active gaming myself. Don't flame me, but I am more than happy parting with my $50.
Its a matter of opinion really.
And I hate that everyone compares TR and HG:L now. Just because the 2 came out during the same time period.
Anyway, HG:L did not appeal to me at all. May not be a bad game for some though, but I definately can not see anyone playing it over a month.
I believe HGL will last more than a month. As a single player game for me, its a good time filler. At least I can go afk and go baby sit whenever I want, without worry about a mob sneaking around me.
This can be a problem, or NOT.
Why? cause you dont NEED to group to take fun, if you are casual, you dont want to waste 30' or one hour finding a group, do you? I got quickly bored in gw the time you spend preparing a gvg and the time playing, also, the same that CoX I found that you NEED a group in some situations, and you cant play when you dont got it? this is not a bad thing.
Games are FOR FUN, so if you have friends and wanna get more fun, just group, if your friends are working and you want to play, then, go solo... where is the problem?
It surely is worth 50$, but it's definetly not worth to waste a single minute of anyone's life to play it.
REALITY CHECK
Ah, come on, it's worth it just for the voice overs.
I noticed that the npc's, when you talk to them, say one thing in the text, which is often funny, but the voice overs...they say stuff completely different.
I was getting a quest today, the npc was spouting some gibberish in the text box...then I almost sprayed soda out of my nose when he said out of nowhere "I'll cut you B*tch!!"
I was laughing my arse off!
Other than that I agree with most of what people are saying. I'm having a blast with it..and online is as solo as offline. There's no real reason to group. I'll probably do it when I get bored to make the quests more fun, but you don't really need it, at least not at the lower levels.
D.
Definately worth it. If you ask me, this game is aces!
The game runs very smoothly for me even on an apg boards and a 7600 gt O.C. vid card and thats at 1600x 1200. It has alot of ways to upgrade your current weapons which I like alot. Teleport to town to sell is nice. Pretty linear so you don't have to run all over the world trying to figure out where to turn in quests. Mini map is well marked for quest turn ins and quest giver locations. Action packed. Not alot of strategy so far but I just got to a new area and I see the game/monsters are getting tougher. If you like to kill stuff with swords or guns as in a futuristic Diablo you should like it. I usually play melee characters but I am really enjoying the Marksmen and Engineer in this one.
Just bought my copy tonight. Updated the singleplayer and multiplayer. I didn't get excited expecting this to be a brand-spanking persistant world like WoW or anything off like that, I knew it was gonna be a glorified Diablo design.
I am VERY happy with it.
If you liked the mindless hack'n'slash and quests of Diablo II mixed up with some shooter action, it's a great freaking game.
I can't believe I paid $50.00 for this piece of garbage. There are many, many different zones in the game, but it seems like they only bothered to make 5 floorplans. The NPC dialouge doesn't make sense most of the time and the jokes are all groaners. And I am not sure why the game is even on this site, as it is not an MMO at all. Just put your cursor on a monster and hold down the mouse buttons. This game is awful, stay away.

Everquest, Everquest II, Horizons, SWG, Vanguard, EVE Online, Tabula Rasa, BF2142, DAoC...etc, etc...
TRY CoH U GUYS WILL LOVE IT
I think it's funny that MMORPG added a section for Hellgate because the community requested it; and now the community is screaming "OMG why is this on here it's not an MMO!"
Looking at this box cover, I don't see anything that tries to claim it as an MMO. I've never seen it advertised as such. And quite frankly, I'm glad it isn't.
The OP wanted a decent singleplayer game, and I think you guys just gave him fuel for the fire with the "not an MMO" comments.
Also, Im seeying lot of people that "complains" about this game, did you reach at least lvl 15?
Cause I was a bit "sad" in the beggining with the game, but, not like other gams where the first impresions are great but with time it get boring, this one, gets more interesting the time you walk in it. More enemies your powers starts to be nice not sucks like the begining, the equipment is great, you will forget the rpg aside taking fun like crazy killing hordes of demons like in a fps...
Seem people that sees something different, complains, calls it garbage and uninstall, but, besides the bugs, think is a GREAT game...
I have to agree, if you have only played to level 15 at least and decide to unistall this game, well you havent seen shit. This game gets very challenging after the lowbie stages and the weapons and gear just get truly better and cool looking.
