Subscribing doesn't offer anything at the moment other than ANNOYING DROPS!
Every instance you collect 5-10 small items that you have ti individually destroy because they're useless, annoying potatoes! LIterally, that's what they consider in game content... that and butter toffee...
I'm serious though, don't subscribe you'll hate the game after half your inventory is full of little items that you have to individually delete because you can't "choose" what you pick up.

Hellgate did something even the worst of sceptic (yes me included) here could not belive possible.
They turned most rabid fanboys into haters in less than a week of release.
There is just one thing that would save Hellgate now and this is simply dropping the subscription and fast.
But they will not do it , after all it is EA
I hate to agree but it's true.
DO NOT SUBSCRIBE ATM!
My account is on EU server and they incredibly subscribed me to US server, automatically! Now I cannot access my subscription on EU site (because the subscription is not there) nor on US site because i don't have an account there!!!!!!! This is like a Kafka story - I cannot comprehend how they can have completely separate account/subscription information!
Now I can't even cancel my subscription because it probably exists for some fictional non-existant US account! Surreal!
A lot of EU players are reporting the similar/same problem.
This doesn't change the fact that the game is truly great but the subscription situation at this moment, especially for EU players, is a total awesome mess.
If I get a full refund and an appology I'll consider re-subbing but so far not even a squeak from FSS or Ping0 on solving this problem.
I'm european, played beta on the US-server.
I subscribed to the EU server without a problem (and see quite a few other europeans running around), and did so willingly for the extra character slots and event drops. For now, that's the only reason to subscribe.
I'd advise anyone to decide for *themselves* if that's worth it.

When did you subscribe? Did you use the US account or EU one? I've seen some subscribers too but they could be from US accounts playing on EU server as well.
Maybe they resolved the issue for new subscriptions but us old faithfuls are out in the lurch!
If they don't do something very soon they will, maybe irreparably, annoy their most loyal EU customers - those who bought subscriptions first!
I subscribed the moment the subscription service was "permanently" up, which is... I think sunday, two weeks ago.
As far as I know, there was no earlier opportunity to subscribe.

So I suppose you have an US account...
.. and the problem is not whether it is "worth it" the problem is whether it is possible at all. What I'm wondering right now is how to unsubscribe from US server if I cannot even access my account/billing information. Wtf? Do they plan to keep billing me monthly for a non-existent account? If they do get things in order and I'm able to sub on EU server will I be double-billed for US server as well? Without a possiblity to cancel this subscription I never wanted?
This is a massive cock-up. Having differences about gameplay and gfx is one thing, but PLAYING WITH OTHER PEOPLE'S CREDIT CARD MONEY is a totally different order of FUBAR! This isn't game-breaking, this is company-breaking. Lawyers could have a field day with this. If they don't get this thing in order very fast and offer some japanese-style apology this could turn very, very, very ugly.
I won't comment on your reading comprehension; I have an EU account and play on the EU servers. I had no difficulty attaining said account, nor have I heard rumors of people having difficulty.
Until now.

At least for now, that is.
The reason: your credit card isn't safe in their hands. It's a big mess. Still. Regardless of what mister Ivan says. 1 on 16 people is having problems. Those problems range from what others said in this thread, to people being charged multiple times (causing overdraft on their credit cards), to people having payed and not getting ingame benefits, and the list goes on. Some people still haven't been contacted at all, despite what he says, and problems aren't solved either.
On top of that, the web pages of the support system are borked, especially the European one. Links to account management that don't exist for instance in some language versions of the site, making it impossible to manage your account or your support ticket. Things that only work with Internet Explorer, with no warning about that it doesn't work with any other browser. You fill out a form, and after submitting, you are sent back to the same form, now empty, with no error message explaining what went wrong.
So a warning: it's a gamble to be one of the 15 people of every 16 that has no problems.

Well if you don't believe me look around. Go to the US HG:L forums - you'll have to create an account there since EU forums are still not on (I wonder why...) http://forums.hellgatelondon.com/forumdisplay.php?f=172
The EU community is in an uproar, it seems that a huge majority of EU players who subscribed with retail version have this same problem and you've been out of it because you subbed directly from beta.
/edit
and as for 1 in 16 with problems... I dunno mate, but us EU players are getting it really long and hard right now. I'd say that this optimistic ratio comes from FSS and should be taken with a pinch of salt.
p.s. as for reading comprehension - be polite mate. i didn't play beta and you could be having an US account whilst being in europe for all I know...
Whoever optimized Hellgate should be stabbed repeatedly and stuffed into a sleeping bag...
Also - the games is nice,
in singleplay. :P
Played so far: 9Dragons, AO, AC, AC2, CoX, DAoC, DF, DnL, DR, DDO, Ent, EvE, EQ, EQ2, FoMK, FFO, Fury, GW, HG:L, HZ, L1, L2, M59, MU, NC1, NC2, PS, PT, R:O, RF:O, RYL, Ryzom, SL, SB, SW:G, TR, TCoS, MX:O, UO, VG, WAR, WoW...
It all sucked.
I don't see an "uproar" though, despite being part of the EU community.
p.s.; as for reading comprehension, I *was* being polite. The less polite response would be to point out that I already stated having an EU subscription in my very first response, after which you still chose to claim that I was on the US servers. I may have ended such a response with "in yo face", coupled with some sort of personal jab.
p.p.s.; but I didn't.

2 weeks to finish both normal and nightmare.. and to realise that you cant kil the last boss ( let me now if its just me... he just doesnt pop after i kill the other ones)
so what the point of a subscription ? to redo the same exact thing in Elite mode ? ( not talking about classes slot etc)
i heard it also add zones/mobs but enough to keep me buzy the whole month or at least untill i m done building my avatar and eventually restart over with a new class ?
seriously, the game is nice and fun .. subcription is a ripoff . but i already said that in many posts.
Woah. Now that's a good reason. Seriously. If you finished the game there's hardly a reason to subscribe- you *may* want to subscribe one month, somewhere in the future to try out new stuff, then finish that and let the month run out
I'm taking my time though. 2 weeks, and a lvl 18 Marksman and a lvl 21 Blademaster. On Normal.

Are you implying that I am lying?!?!?
If that is so then just plain f*** off. My and other people's money is being stolen right now. And I have no way of preventing this and you talk crap about "reading comprehension"?!?!?!!??! Well f**** you and the horse you rode in on!!!!!!
I understand defending a game over subjective issues but what are you doing is fanboism of the worst sort - the game's subscription is collapsing. New subs have been discontinued, the devs are in a total panic, people are getting billed multiple times for services not rendered at all, EU subscribers cannot use subs on EU servers nor can they move them or even discontinue payment...
This is a goddamn apocalypse from any effing way you try to look at it.
here is a list of complaints on subscription program:
quote:
Considering the subscription problem thread was over 26 pages long before it was locked. (According to the GM because of account info being posted)
The new thread is over 33 pages this morning of complaints ranging from.
1. EU customers signed up on US and can't get switched to EU.
2. Monthly charges recharging daily for 4 days now.
3. People signed up for founders 149$ and accounts still not showing paid.
4. People signed up for founders 149$ and getting hit with monthly charges.
5. People subscribed and their accounts still not showing that they are.
6. People getting e-mail saying they are subscribed yet no charges on credit cards.
7. People subscribed and charged multiple times, yet the help desk telling them they havn't been charged because their cards are expired???
8. THEN theres the people who are trying to subscribe and the site refuses to process their credit cards, even though the correct info is entered. One poster tried 3# different cards.
9. Support tickets entered and waiting 24-48hrs and when you finally get a reply...it tells you the answer to your question is some FLIMSY FAQ # that only says things like, Hellgate only takes VISA/Mastercard/Amex. Even though you used a VISA card.
10. Not to mention the complaints of the help desk being based in India and people unable to understand the help desk personal NOR even the Supervisors.
I'm one of the tried to subscribe yet can't, but no way am I gonna try again until it's totally fixed.
4 days now and the only explainations posted by the company is..."A update to all your problems should be posted soon."

And I've seen it happening personally - and you tell me that it is not true, that I am lying?!?!?!?
Who are you working for?

to the rest of you guys:
I'm a staunch supporter of this game and I love every damn bit of it as can be seen in my previous posts on these forums but if I see something wrong I will warn people about it. Fair is fair. The game rocks but the subscriptions are in an unbelieveable mess right now.
Buy the box, there's plenty of joy in it but stay away from subs until they fix things.
Luckily it is just a handful of people having problems. Most of us are having a good time. I subscribed without any difficulties.
Still subscribing now is a crap shoot. Best to wait for the big content patch that is coming in December to decide if you want to subscribe. It is supposed to have quite a bit of goodies including a new outdoor area centered around Stonehenge.
"Flame"? What flame? If you call my response a "flame", you've never been properly flamed. I not saying those issues aren't valid, nor am I calling you a liar. I am saying however, that the forums you pointed me towards do not seem to be in the uproar you referred to. One thread for each billing/subscription issue. Three threads total. Wow. Better ask the government to step down before things get out of hand.

Now, to conclude, I'd like to point out that people who subscribed to the US servers (and all consequences related to that), did that themselves. it's not an error related to "going to eu.hellgatelondon.com and ending up on the US server"- it is in fact people who went to the US site, registered, and got a US account.
The billing issue, while still not as worthy of NATO-repercussions as you make it sound, is indeed a very bad thing. Billing however, is not in the hands of FSS. Neither is customer support, apparently, cause they outsourced that to India? So the only thing one can truly accuse FSS of is "choosing bad companies to outsource to".
Note: I am NOT saying that that makes the complaints less real, nor less annoying.

The precise size of the problem is still unknown at the moment, but I got burned very badly and a lot of people did as well. The complaints on US forums got locked due to too many people reporting problems. Considering that EU forums are not on and that the sticky noticing players to try making an account on US server came out yesterday it would be VERY SAFE, no - DEAD CERTAIN to assume that a huge majority of EU subscribers with problems never got a chance of complaining...
So the number of posts you saw was a) before the lock b) from english speaking people who actually went through registering a full new account on US forum to voice their complaints.
As for "this is your own fault" - you're dead wrong. I clicked on "subscribe" button, their web site opened and I completed the subscription process. At no point was I asked which server I wanted to have my subscription on. Since I accessed the site from the EU HG:L client where I have an account on EU server I and many others, assumed that we'd automatically get to EU site and sub on EU server with an option to maybe move to US or something.
The story gets even more insane when you consider that the purchase receipt I got was from the eu.hellgate.com and not the us version of the site.
Your argument "your own fault" is like saying that if someone steps on a landmine you planted in his yard it is "his own fault".

I performed the same actions you describe and ended up with an EU account. I guess the website must've re-routed people to the US pages, but only "sometimes". I'll agree that the subscription process could've made things clearer in the whole EU/US regard though.
By the way, for those people who have the issue of a US account without a paid subscription: You can simply make an EU account and use your CD-key *again* for the EU servers.
Marko, I think you and I need to "agree to disagree". Your subscription attempt went horribly wrong. Mine went perfectly fine. Both are facts.

No crime, and your intent is clear. Also; it's internet. It's easy for *everyone* to talk. The Customer support is crap, I'll take your word for it (trust me, I've had to deal with some Indian desks as well- and none of them were capable of english). But you shouldn't have had to call them in the first place, and *that* is something that not many people have had to do (depending on your definition of "many").

First off, I like the game.
I'm not looking for a serious relationship with an online game right now (), so the old-school action RPG feel of the game suits me just fine; it's a blast to launch, get an hour's worth of chaotic action and exit.
As for subscription... I'll have to strongly agree that we're not being provided enough meat for it, but I decided to go ahead and try it anyway. If you have friends you're planning to play with and find that 10 Euros a month is not a big deal, you might just as well go for it.
Group play itself does not have the deep MMORPG mechanics where everybody gets a set role, but I still find it more fun than solo play. Faster, much more chaotic.
Though mostly, I think I just like the fuzzy feeling of seeing real Player Characters in a hub. I always liked playing an RPG in my own sphere and going onto some forums to talk about it, trade ideas and stories. It might be an old way socializing but it worked for me. Diablo gave you a more convenient way of such controlled socializing and so does Hellgate: London.
I myself bought the game online and downloaded it, and I did not have any problems with subscription. I did not end up on a server on the wrong side of the Atlantic, neither did my credit card get billed extra. Though I've read many posts about such problems, too, so evidently they're not rare problems.
I don't even HAVE a phone number to call. There is no European phone number. US has a phone number. I'm stuck in the 'automated customer email loop'.

I have a 2.5 year old computer that isn't even high-end and it plays just fine..... Maybe whoever optimized your computer needs to try again.
I agree on those facts.
However another fact is that these problems with subscriptions still remain and that it would be prudent from users to refrain from subscribing to this game until the whole process becomes reliable or they will risk a nightmare.
Another fact is that FSS and Ping0 handle this situation extremely badly from a PR point of view. I spent 4 days trying to get any kind of response on what is happening here and for someone who just paid extra $$ out of sheer willingness to support the devs and their vision I can tell you I got the shaft. If I was in a restaurant and I found a dead rat in my soup I already paid for and the waiter ignored me and refused to pay any attention to my complaints or give me my credit card back... I wouldn't just walk away, I would probably break a few chairs, tables and noses on may way out... to call the police.
A simple "We're very sorry and are working on it very hard" on their EU site would work wonders. However we have zero information or any kind of apology or instructions what to do. If they weren't holding my credit card number with me having no way to to cancel the sub or anything... For all I know they may be completing their pillage of subscribers' credit cards and are making a run for the border. This is simply scandalous.
Whenever you pay something with a credit card you can dispute the charge. Most banks will not give you much hassle once you tell them you were wrongly billed. Much easier to just call the bank and get the charge reversed than dealing with these yahoos. The bank can also easily flag any further charges from them. Problem solved.
I don't get put on hold talking to my bank, they stress customer relations. Keep that in mind when dealing with any inappropriate billing from anyone. You are far more likely to get a good result dealing with the bank.
