I found the game unplayable, remember the i cant lose aggro bug? How i want to spend my game time cloning myself.
And to tell the truth i did not play the game because i loved starwars in fact i did not play it for over 6 months because it was star wars thought it would be a little kids game.
I played it because of the complexity the depth the free openended playing style. And i doubt i will play the next star wars MMO because it is star wars, starwars sickens me now.
Last night i browsed the station forums and what did i see? Nothing i havent seen the last 3 years over there.
Lets see there was the Fix the group instancing bug thread. How long have those been posted now?
There was the dont nerf BM mutation thread, it appears people are worried the devs will nerf the last 6 months of the players efforts. And a few others i got a good laugh out of.
So you see i really dont want to commit myself to such an unstable gaming enviroment.
And would go as far to say that the way the devs nerf proffesions and this and that i would feel like a paying beta tester at this point,
We Did not forgive the Nazi's for WW2. We rounded them up, Tried them for war crimes and shot them or sent them to prison. Now that would be and interesting analogy to put on $OE. As to your question, I was a die Hard fan of the game and stayed from July 03 till Jan 06 and went back several times till this past September of 07. I finally gave up and canceled all accounts for the last time and deleted the game off my hard drive for the first time since July 03.
I have returned a few times, just to once again experience the atmosphere in the game. The last time i used a free trail, they had the new avatar textures on the TC. Since that i have never been thinking about another return. My characters can no longer be their original professions or use their skills, items or resources. They cant move or even look the same way they did. Neither can I se the world as it used to look, now when they have messed up the contrasts/light/craphic. The world looks more cartoonish now for some reason, tatooines sand looks wet, the stormtroopers looks like they are made of glass when its dark, etc. When you have to avoid people for the reason your star wars feeling are ruined if they start fight something, then a game have not much to offer you. I know i live only once, and im glad i got the opportunity to experience this game the short time it was great, but even if i could live forever i wouldnt waste one more minute on this game.
I went back after the Battle of Restus started and that was fun. It ws nice seeing old friends online to gorup with and do some PVP. But after everyone stopped doing that, it lost interest again. They have add some new quests, but it just not the same. Some of the new quest require a group to do, but that is almost impossible to find. I was in Theed on the Eclipse server and the place was dead. No one was around the spaceport like usual. When I do long on now its mainly to check the status of my houses for my toons. And I usually don't stay on for much more then 30 minutes if that. The lack of the vet player base has killed the game.
Right now I am sort of staying away from MMOs. I tried EQ2 after the NGE but that didn't appeal to me either. Also tried a free trial of COH, but didn't find it that fun. It was too linear for me. I guess I was used the open sandbox that SWG had. Tempted by Tabula Rasa, but don't have the computer to play it right now. God and Heros looked good, but that got killed I see now. The fantasy MMOs just don't appeal to me that much. Keep hearing that EVE is good, maybe I'll give that a try if there is a free trial available.

There is a free trial right now. And it is an open sand box with some depth to it.
When they came out with the space flight add-on I jumped back into the game ... played it ... kicked myself for wasting $50 and promptly left again.
When they sent me one of their "come back and try us again" deals, I went back ... felt heartache at how they'd butchered my pistoleer ... clicked a button and presto had a Jedi Master. Hmmm. Okay, that was fun.
I am just happy that I got to experience the fun of the game when it was Pre-NGE ... it was really an awesome game.
What's perhaps most amazing is that Sony seems unaware that they HAD THE hit game and they blew it.
But we all love Star Wars and even just being part of the world is almost good enough for me.
I might be the odd one out on this for a PreCU vet but I never more then liked the Star Wars movies (not the prequels, those I dislike... well the two that I've seen). Sure that like as well as my preference for sci fi instead of fantasy were the draws that got me to try out SWG originally but what kept me playing was the PreCU system. If I was going to play a class/level/loot system I'd play one of the many games that does it better then the NGE does.
I've done the free trial the last time . But didn't enjoy it . (surprise Surprise) As long as the game is in its current state i will never give SOE money to play it.
I've gone back for the free trials, but the problem is while the worlds are there, the people I enjoyed them with are not.
Also, because of the way they mucked with the mechanisms of the game, there's no longer that much to do. It's difficult to find groups to take on the high end content, mainly because the NGE destroyed my guild, and so many others, and there are fewer high level players around to do things with.
They've screwed up so many aspects of just being in the game as well. The UI sucks Rori swamp water, they've eliminated mounts as RP objects, by making them store when you dismount, the mobs have been dumbed down by the level system, and PvE combat is purely pounding on rocks now.
The last vet trial I really was into things despite knowing how broken SWG had become for several days...enthusastically surveying for resources and planting harvesters, but then realizing that it was somewhat pointless to gather resources for crafting when crafting has been so made irrelevant by changes in the game and the loot-centrism of the economy.
It's sad, really.
CH, Jedi, Commando, Smuggler, BH, Scout, Doctor, Chef, BE...yeah, lots of SWG time invested.

I can't BELIEVE they messed with the mounts that way!!! I used to love having my big lizard mount follow me around town and interact with it. Now it just sounds like the way they do mounts in WoW! GRRRRRR
I quit pre-nge/cu for school a few years back, then I got the urge to play. It was free for a month, because I was gone so long. Well I began at around level 86, because I had so many mastered classes when I left. I did a fast grind to 90, then told myself it wasn't so bad.. To answer the original post, no. SWG, in its current form, is one of the worst MMOs available. The combat system is horrible, and slapped on a game engine that wasn't designed to support a pseudo-FPS combat system (even with the craptastic target lock, the combat system is based on the twitchy combat). The avatar movement is ridiculous looking (insert Benny Hill comment here). Crafting is mostly worthless, even with the poor knock off of WoW's enchanting system (RE'ing). Beast Master is a horribly inept re-implementation of the old Creature Handler and Bio Engineer professions. The only thing about the current game that reminds me of the old game is the fact that the b-team of developers are constantly tweaking the classes. With every publish, one class becomes the alpha and another is nerfed into uselessness.
The game is an unfun mess. It is the same PoS that was dropped on November 15, 2005. All the bells and whistles in the world won't change that fact. Played (more than a month): SWG, Second Life, Tabula Rasa, Lineage 2, Everquest 2, EvE, MxO, Ryzom.
I was more than willing to give it a try again and took the 30 day trial to see if i could get back into it again. Didn't like it very much, but managed to stay for a while to try out the Jedi class. When I hit lvl 50 (about 2 weeks in) there were no more quests for me... at least that I could find, and when I tried asking on the general chat if I missed something somewhere I was ignored. Forgive me if im wrong, and i don't work for SOE but i've returned to SWG recently, and they is still loads of ways to really enjoy this game. I had a Master Bounty Hunter Pre-NGE so i lost abit aswell. (Granted, not as much as a Jedi). But we all love Star Wars and even just being part of the world is almost good enough for me. I think if the population was near what it used to be, many of the old playes would really enjoy the game again. Like i said i just enjoy being part of the world. It still has amazing potential for roleplay, and exploring. One of the best aspects of the game, player housing is always what it used to be. With abit of tweaking on the crafting which im sure will come, crafters can have as much fun, as ever. I don't understand why lots of people are denying themselves the enjoyment of playing in the universe they enjoy. You only live once, and i know what SOE done was shitty, but so was what the Germans done in WW2 (but a million times worse) and everyone has forgiven them? Sometimes you just have to swollow your pride, and when you get back into the game, and daydreaming about playing it again when your not, you will still enjoy yourselves. After all MMO's are about a important social aspect, and that could still exist in the current game. Lets face it, if your just hanging out for another Star Wars MMO fix, i think you are going to be waiting at least 3 years.
Well tbh sometimes I do miss the environment. The folks that created the worlds did a fantastic job--hats off to them. Sadly though, I played for about 6 months after the NGE, and then tried to go back to the game after that...once. It was a saddening experience. Many of the things I enjoyed doing were impossible in the new system, my favourite weapons were made for a profession that no longer exists, cities where I used to hang out with friends were abandoned, my droid didn't work, rezzing people didn't work, my friends list was all but empty, places that used to be jam-packed with people were either completely devoid of activity or there were 2 or 3 people in sight, the shops I used to like going to were gone (the crafters quit when their products were replaced by better loot that could be found almost everywhere), base busting was removed from the game, my guild was gone apart from one other person etc.. To sum all of that up though it was pretty depressing. Oh and bugs that I reported even months before the NGE were still in the game. I tried posting some feedback about that on forums, and got my thread moved to obscurity. It was an all around "bad trip."
I do hear that the current development team is trying to undo some of the NGE disaster, and on one level I'm glad to hear that. I also don't feel that pride keeps me from playing this particular video game again, or unforgiveness. I can honestly say that I've forgiven the decision makers that messed things up so badly and were less than honest. I don't want revenge or wish them harm etc., and I don't like nurturing resentment. I think that tends to hurt me more than the person I may resent anyways.
What I don't want though is to return yet again to see the post-apocalyptic state of a virtual world I really invested myself into. And, although I forgive the folks at SOE/LA for their actions and decisions, I don't find that I trust them. Since they treated customers so very poorly on so many occasions in so many ways, I simply don't have confidence at this point that they won't turn around and do something crazy again. Maybe I'd forget about "what once was" if I got invested again in "what now is". SOE/LA, however, have given me the impression that "what now is" could become "what used to be" at any given moment, with little conern for the ramifications. It's unfortunate, but there it is. Since there are other virtual playgrounds available to me, I choose to go where I feel valued and respected, and where I can truly relax and enjoy myself. As for the StarWars IP, well the longer I'm away from SWG, the more I find I enjoy things related to StarWars again.
If the OP enjoys the game, I'm glad. I hope that they treat current customers much better than they treated so many of us in the past.
I tried the NGE once when they were offering a vet trial.... Never have touched it again, I don't fall for the hype and propaganda they're trying to pull on players.
Quoting people doesn't make you clever, in fact, it makes you all the more stupid for not bothering to read the quotes you post in the first place.

I was a master WS and still there's no "love" for that profession in NGE...
btw, speakin' of germans and ww2 don't mix the 2 hehe.. ppl who started ww2 were called nazis not germans and some ppl from other nations joined 'em too. Germany and its ppl suffered from ww2 nearly as much as the rest of the world
I stopped playing about a year ago, cancelled two of my three accounts and only login a couple times a month for just an hour or so...mostly just to catch up with old friends and see how things are going. I do miss playing in a Star Wars universe, but the game is simply not enjoyable for me; and after moving on to other MMO's it's only made me realize how much SWG falls short of its potential.

the time i spend scratching my own ass is more productive and usually more fun for me than playing this game now.
Never underestimate the power of stupid people in large groups.
I miss the social aspects but the last time I tried NGE-SWG the community was very empty and bland.
I have tried to go back twice...both times I didn't enjoy myself and left within a week.

No.
I won't return to SWG until it's announced that it will shut down. And that only to get final screenies of my beloved toons.
I tried the NGE once when they were offering a vet trial.... Never have touched it again, I don't fall for the hype and propaganda they're trying to pull on players.
Quoting people doesn't make you clever, in fact, it makes you all the more stupid for not bothering to read the quotes you post in the first place.
Tried it few months back and no.. not going to try it anymore, after 2(?) years the game is still FUBAR
btw, speakin' of germans and ww2 don't mix the 2 hehe.. ppl who started ww2 were called nazis not germans and some ppl from other nations joined 'em too.
