QUOTE-------------It's like what was said earlier... FFA PvP is a sub-niche of a niche playstyle. It's hugely popular among those who want that playstyle. It's not hugely popular among MMO players overall. I would have thought that after years, now, of crying out for a "true hardcore, FFA PvP MMO", and not yet getting it that fact might have sunken in.------------END QUOTE
LMAO....ok lets addresss.
A little over half the MMO market here plays World of Warcraft....Almost all of them, certainly every single person I know play PvP one way or another. That would make PvP the overwhelming choice! Thats a fact now ey!
FFA PvP though? I'd say its doing well too, bottom line is PvE'ers, or those that only want PvE are clearly the minority.
You'd think if a company makes a PvE only game the PvE would be better. LoTRO clearly, and I mean clearly did not. NWN and dungeon sige have better PvE and they cost 20 bucks combined.
QUOTE----If I bought Guildwars or Fury or something like that, and then after leveling out started complaining about the lack of PvE content... well, I'd be about as dumb as a bag of hammers.-----END QUOTE
true true, however this shows all the more why PvP should have been added, most knew to stay away from this game, but those that played draw attention to why it should be there all the more so.
Not to mention, again, that combat in this game was such a letdown, if you make it PvE only, you had better make it great. It is'nt.
Most PVPers play Shadowbane. I play shadowbane when I need to pvp "hardcore" style. Lord of The Rings Online is just a great game , in my opinion, that is why I play it.
Most PvPers steer clear of Shadowbane simply because its still really buggy and laggy and even though its free to play now not alot has changed over time.
I would say most PvPers are either playing WoW and EvE Online, or they are on some PvP server in some other game or they are like I am and waiting for AoC or WAR to release and contemplating their new gaming rig in the meantime, while they participate in some FPS or play console games
Some choose to idle in an IRC chat room waiting for tidbits of info on some vaporware game (Darkfall)...I did that with Shadowbane, look where it went...

It'll be interesting to watch when WAR and AoC come out, and see if the same posters come back on and say the same things about those games and then mention the next batch of new games with the gleam in their eye.
I've been seeing the same act play out since UO. Every single new game that comes out is going to be "The Game". Then they find out that lo and behold those companies experience the very same issues that all MMOs experience.
It's dang hard to please everyone! Sometimes choices have to be made that aren't going to be popular, but it's in the best interest of the game to do so. Sometimes they screw up because well they are human as well. (Here's looking at you SOE and SWG). But, that's the way it goes with MMOs... if it's going to wreck your life; then it's probably best to get out now.
So anyway, they will make choices... those choice will please some and piss off others. So, then those disgruntled gamers will be right back here complaining about how those stupid developers don't know jack... and expound upon the virtues of the next game(s) in development. And the cycle repeats itself again, and again, and again. Get used to it people... if you are new to MMO gaming forums... that's how it works.

A little over half the MMO market here plays World of Warcraft....Almost all of them, certainly every single person I know play PvP one way or another. That would make PvP the overwhelming choice! Thats a fact now ey! Hardly. First, WoW isn't FFA PvP. It's very restricted. Your enemy is decided based on what side you choose and, outside of a duel, you can't fight anyone of your own faction. FFA PvP typically means being able to attack anyone, almost anywhere, anytime, with few restrictions. This is clearly not the case in WoW. You can't attack other members of your faction at will. Only time I'm aware of that happening was in a South Park episode. That in itself is a huge restriction. You can't attack potentially half the server's population unless they accept your challenge to a duel. That is not FFA PvP. Want to see FFA PvP? Go try out Shadowbane, get to level 20 and leave the starting island... When the first person you see, regardless of class or race or location, can potentially drop you and loot your body, taking money, gear, etc.... then come back and tell me how "FFA" WoW's PvP is by comparison. Second, the number of people playing WoW overall doesn't indicate anything specifically. There are 3 different types of servers, each with different PvP rules and only one type being geared specifically toward (relatively) less restricted PvP. The closest WoW comes to being a FFA PvP game is still inherently nowhere near it. As everyone isn't playing on the PvP-specific servers, I think it's safe to say that the population of WoW as a whole does not support your argument. Find out what percentage of WoW's servers are PvP and then you'll have an idea of roughly how many WoW players are really into it for its implementation of that playstyle. FFA PvP though? I'd say its doing well too, bottom line is PvE'ers, or those that only want PvE are clearly the minority. Again, what we're talking about is FFA PvP, not PvP in general. You can count on one hand the number of games that have a truly open FFA PvP system. There are a couple more coming down the pike that may, or may not, succeed. You'd think if a company makes a PvE only game the PvE would be better. LoTRO clearly, and I mean clearly did not. NWN and dungeon sige have better PvE and they cost 20 bucks combined. The only thing "clear" here is this is your opinion and there are many who disagree with you. At the end of the day, by looking at how PvP is implemented and limited in LoTRO, even compared to WoW's most lax implementation, it's fairly clear that it wasn't Turbine's main focus in that game.
It's a side activity. Not the main focus.

Pardon I didn't read the entire thread, but just to state that PvP wasn't supposed to be in game at all. It was added because it was a popular suggestion... So you can't really expect the most robust system as of yet, maybe in a year or more. If it feels tacked on, that's because it is.
