SOE has dropped the ball on distribution.

Yeah I decided to forget about SWG and what happened and was awaiting a copy of the pre-order for PotBS. FLS stressed on several occasions about how SOE had no control over the product and how happy they were with the deal.
FFW to October when the pre-order was meant to be on shelves and yes...SOE you are the weakest link. It gets pushed back to November 13th because of bush fires and G&H being cancelled. Fine I didn't say anything there was still plenty of time for me to get a copy and be there on the 7th with the other rabid fanbois.

Unless you live in Canada or Sacramento, California you probably can't find a copy and your local games store has never heard of PotBS. So with Christmass approaching and the inevitable postal delays it looks like some/many/most of us won't be able to join in on the 7th. As for the 22nd and getting a standard box, well what happens there is anybodys guess.
The trouble is SOEs lack of involvment, after looking on the FLS site for info it seems they know less than I do. They have no idea about when/if a deal will/can be made to put the pre-order in stores in Europe before the 7th, as for NA they just have no explination. They advise going to your store and if they don't have it or have never heard of it you should call SOE customer service and inform them giving the store details. Call SOE customer service? Are you crazy? Some guy at a call center in Bombay is gonna sort out your problems finding a copy of PotBS in Detroit? SOE customer service is infamous throughout the industry and for good reasons.
However this fiasco is being blamed on the stores and their poor managment, well there was no problem with getting a POS out like Vanguard. No trouble getting G&H pre-orders into stores, maybe Rusty needs to start asking Smed some hard questions?
I'm sorry to be so negative and I know it's not due to FLS and they really can't do much about it. I'm fine with waiting for an MMO because it needs more polish and so forth, but PotBS is ready and there are boxes that should've been on shelves over a month ago in Europe and North America. I just can't wait hoping that one day a pre-order might turn up on Amazon and maybe a normal box will follow afterwards. I still want to play PotBS and probably will but I was sick and tired of SOE BS before I was ready to buy a pre-order of PotBS. I was under the impression that thanks to FLS I wasn't gonna have to deal with this kind of **** from SOE anymore, it seems I was mistaken. So I'll be playing TR into the new year and will take another look at PotBS after the 22nd, and just hope that this excellent game and it's community get the break they deserve.

Are we talking Dec 7th here, or January 7th? Because if it is Jan 7th...(which is what I understand to be the pre-order start date), then we still ahve time for the game boxes to get on the shelves. Can't do much with it until the 7th anyway.
You are correct but for many it isn't so simple, if you live in the US then maybe it'll get there on time...maybe. In the EU then it looks pretty doubtfull, anyother time of year and there wouldn't be such a problem but at this time the postal system grinds to a halt as you approach December. Postal workers in the UK love to go on strike around now to get higher wages too, and I have to order through Amazon and have my mother send it to me in Asia.
I'll be visiting the UK next year and will no doubt pop into a game shop to see if they have a copy, but that'll be after the 22nd. I understand most in NA will probably get in on the 7th and I envy you, I really wish I could join you as this game has so many new and exciting features for the genre.
However it won't happen for me so I'm checking out TR, it was a toss up between TR and PotBS but I choose PotBS due to the dynamic PvP system as opposed to the Dynamic PvE system in TR. I'm more into PvP than PvE, so it seems I'll try out both games just that PotBS will have to be in Spring next year rather than January 7th. I hope you enjoy the boarding party,

Just download it when it is available.
In Australia, many games advertised as being available in EBgames stores are not distributed in Australia, so I have no alternative but to download.
Also, download is usually cheaper here as Australian stores usually charge at least 50% to 100% more than the advretised price in the USA. Maybe there is a grain of truth in the comment that the stores are inefficient. An alternative explanation is that the stores are just a rip off. It would not surprise me if it is similar in other countries.

Exactly how far is your head stuck up your bum? There are PLENTY of mirrors to download the game. And there is no difference between this boarding party version you speak of and the beta/retail copy. Download the stress test client from fileplanet, they all patch the same...

If you are getting that low of a download speed you must have a very crappy dial up internet service. In which case I dont see how you intend to play any online games anyways.
Where do you live? I live in S. Korea and DL stuff from fileplanet andother NA websites all the time. Previously I lived in Bangkok, Thailand and did the same (and internet service in Thailand sucks). Get yourself a free DL manager from www.download.com (Free Download Manager or FlashGet) and DL your clients overnight while you sleep.
The first time, It took me approximately 6 hours to DL the 4 gig POTBS client. I started it before I went to bed and it was finished long before I woke up. I was getting DL speeds of around between 150-250 KB. The second time I DLed it (because yes, Fileplanet sucks, and it was corrupted) I got lucky and DLed in about 3 hours at about 250-375 KBs.
Many other game clients (which are not near as big as POTBS) I DL in under an hour ...sometimes minutes depending on the size and the DL site.

I know Korea and Japan are great as they're alot closer to the west coast server, and guess what I'm in Bangkok. The UK server is actually closer to me but they all give the same speed, I can play MMOs fine but FPS must on close servers, the ADSL connection sucks in BKK and fileplanet and SOE are just pure pony. Whenever I try a download of anything PotBS it just doesn't want to know, which is strange considering I can download high quality porn movies from the US in under an hour. I've asked FLS to host the client on a porn site but am still awaiting a reply!

Wrong. The OP came to slam SoE because there fires that caused delays in him getting his pre-order box for a game that he can't play LIVE until January 7th. I mean seriously SMED, how could you guys possibly be think of recovering from fires and helping people get their lives back in order. You should be ashamed of yourselves. Please, for the love of God, SMED, drop everything you are doing and go down to the distribution center and get PRE-ORDER of PoTBS and get it to the OP, please. HEAVEN forbid that he may get the box a month later than originally expected even though the release date is JANUARY 21 with pre-orders playing on January 7th.

Where in Bangkok do you live? Silom district, Chonburi? I was there this past summer. I really enjoyed my time there, though the humidity just killed me. Ugh...90 and 90 percent humidity. Thank god for air conditioned hotels!
I agree with the topic, something isn't right with the pre-release. I still do not have the copy and I am in Carson City, Nev. which is right on the border of California. The gamestop here has no clue what I am talking about either.
This means to me:
1) Advertising or marketing is not effecient or very slow.
2) Distrubution has not set this as a priority.
3) I expect problems with SOE launcher when game opens. (SOE KARMA BABY)
4) I spend to much time wanting to get the box and calling the dang store I feel annoyed and they feel this about me.
5) FLS is stuck with SOE so there is nothing that can be done EVER!!!! about this companionship.
6) FLS is just as unhappy as all of us about the pre-release. Most likely more than us.

I have had the same problem with slow download speeds for some sites. Your download speed is screwed down to 6kbps after a while. Other sites are fine.
The worst sites seem to have some of the following characteristics:
a) they want you to register your details with them
b) you have the option of paying a premium for a faster download service
c) it is recommended you download and installl a specific download program for their site
You really have to be very trusting to do this for a one off download.

Klong Tan on Ramkamheng, as for slamming SOE because they're helping people after bush fires (Florence Nightinggale online TM) that was the excuse for pushing the release back to Nov 13th that and G&H canceled. I was fine with both these pony excuses that actually don't stand up to scrutiny (sort of like all SOE games right now), since the boxes were probably manufactured in China and I don't see how it stops them being shipped to Europe.
However come Nov 13th and apparently the distribution deal for the EU never was, nor is, but hopefully shall be sorted. The U.S.A doesn't have it much better, if you look on the FLS site when someone sees some boxes in a gamestore in the U.S it's like a UFO sighting! It gets announced and people from hundreds of miles around get in their cars and race there before they've gone!
If you believe bushfires have prevented distribution due to SOE being so damn benevolent and helping out employees (although they're based in Austin, Texas) then fine. I don't so let's just agree to disagree rather than throwing smart comments and personal attacks at eachother like children?

No problem, I'm pretty grumpy due to the distribution problems. Anyother time of year and this wouldn't be an issue at all, but in the run up to Christmass (who am I kidding Christmass started 2 weeks ago in Europe!) it's a disaster for me anyway. Short of wringing Smedley's neck (wether you believe he's responsible or not, you must admit it'd make you feel better!) I'd appreciate a run down of what the hell is happening.
The info is very scant at the FLS site, they don't seem to know what's happening in NA also they say they're still trying to cut a distribution deal for the EU (although I remember them claiming it was done, though again I'm probably mistaken). I don't hate the game or FLS and have been frothing at the mouth to get my hands on a copy, now I'm gonna check it out when I visit the U.K in the Spring. Since all this drama has been bad for my blood pressure it's either play another game until next year or give up coffee and turn vegetarian!

No problem, I'm pretty grumpy due to the distribution problems. Anyother time of year and this wouldn't be an issue at all, but in the run up to Christmass (who am I kidding Christmass started 2 weeks ago in Europe!) it's a disaster for me anyway. Short of wringing Smedley's neck (wether you believe he's responsible or not, you must admit it'd make you feel better!) I'd appreciate a run down of what the hell is happening.
The info is very scant at the FLS site, they don't seem to know what's happening in NA also they say they're still trying to cut a distribution deal for the EU (although I remember them claiming it was done, though again I'm probably mistaken). I don't hate the game or FLS and have been frothing at the mouth to get my hands on a copy, now I'm gonna check it out when I visit the U.K in the Spring. Since all this drama has been bad for my blood pressure it's either play another game until next year or give up coffee and turn vegetarian!

Missed as in all the servers were in U.S and EU and the fastest download speed I got for 3 days was 6kbps, then yes. Apparently they were also stress testing the servers that they were downloading the game with so I suppose I actually took part in a way.

Hmm. I always download at my full line cap speed (3mbps) from fileplanet servers. Yeah, the free ones too. I've used fileplanet for years, and their servers are top quality. Sure, im in the US, but I also download from servers in China, and Malaysia at max speed too. I think your just looking for an excuse to complain :P
Also, you can try a site such as www.filemirrors.com. Type in the filename (you can get the filename from fileplanet, just go through as if you were going to download it.) and click search!
I typed in "potbs" and guess what the first thing to come up was? PotBS-Install.exe from www.buringsea.com ! Im sure you'll be excited to see this! The download is the 100MB SOE Launcher/Patcher that will download the game for you from FLS/SOE servers. No corrupt files, and resuming is available too.
