I thnk they should create a Sci-Fi space based game similar in concept and application to their current WoW series. PvE servers, PvP servers and RP versions of both to give the gamers the chance to choose their own version instead of the one size fits all concept, hell I'd subscribe just to spite a certain other Sci-Fi game.
You forgot one thing. No one had a clue about World of Warcraft either until it was already over two years in production. I'm guessing a 2009 time frame for their next MMORPG release. That would 5 years after the release of WoW.
Fear not fanbois, we are not trolls, let's take off your tin foil hat and learn what VAPORWARE is:
"Vaporware is a term used to describe a software or hardware product that is announced by a developer well in advance of release, but which then fails to emerge after having well exceeded the period of development time that was initially claimed or would normally be expected for the development cycle of a similar product."
Just wondering what everyone else thinks blizzards next-gen mmo will be? (for those that dont know blizzard are hiring for a top secrete project http://www.blizzard.com/jobopp/ ) My thoughts... 4 Options 1) WoW 2 - imo totaly unlikley WoW is doing so well at the moment and has scope to carry on extending the content with expansion packs. Dont belive there is enough other content to release a second game with out it just being the same game with better graphics and a few diffrent options. 2) Starcraft - personaly I would love this idea, but all would depend on which direction they took it, no doubt it would be popular and it's diffrent enough from the fantasy world of warcraft that its not in direct competion with WoW 3) Diablo - loved diablo (1 and 2) so would like to see this as an mmo, not sure if blizzard will continue with this though as the team responsible for the previous games have left and its another fantasy game so it would be in direct competion with wow. 4) New Title - I'm sure when they decided to release another mmo there had to be some thought gathering on the idea of a totaly new title. They can still build on the success of the other games and any title with blizzard in (no matter how many people want to bash them) will be popular. This gives them the most scope in terms of story and expansions. Plus no people screaming this doesnt fit with the lore... 5) Somthing I missed?
My ideal would be a SCFI option 4...
For one thing Blizzard don't have control over Diablo/starcraft, as the people who left BLizzard (Blizzard North) took it with them to Flagship Studios, which rumors to possibly be doing DIablo 3
For one thing Blizzard don't have control over Diablo/starcraft, as the people who left BLizzard (Blizzard North) took it with them to Flagship Studios, which rumors to possibly be doing DIablo 3
Blizzard 100% have control over Starcraft hence Starcraft 2... and I'm 99% sure they have control over Diablo as well, yes the guys that created Diablo left but blizzard still own and controll the rights to diablo.

Blizzard north (called condor - before Blizzard bought the studio and their work) only had Diablo at the time, in a very early state of development, they had nothing to do with Starcraft.
Both IP's belong to blizzards currently, The guys who formed Flagship left blizzard in mid 2003 before WoW was released....mostly becuase they thought the vivendi buyout would kill blizzard... I am sure if you ask them now do you wish you stayed many would say yes.
The rest of the Blizzard north team were moved into Blizzard and Blizzard north was shut down in 2005.
Blizzard is not the only developer who loses employees after a game is released.. people more on to go it alone all the time. Having Blizzard and WoW on your CV is a golden pass in the industry.
Well they already nixed the Wow2 title, so you can toss that out. Diablo III is rumored to be in the design phase, but most probably will be another FPS as the previous one. Starcraft II is a strategy title, they won't do a MMO with it,because the races other than humans are not viable.
Pretty much leaves us with a completely different and new title. I will look forward to it.
Ya today i observed them hiring for "top secret" projects. WoW 2 would be bad juju, Diablo shouldnt be turned into a standard mmo yet so id say starcraft. You can really add alot of stuff in a sci fi mmo. they could have space combat on top of the typical ground combat. Do some realm vs realm. Starcraft would be successful (although I dislike WoW, I tend to hate lvl base games). And even though I dislike WoW, it really brought in alot of new gamers to the mmo community and the game was smooth and complete so if they do the same with starcraft they will be successful I believe....hopefully it isnt a WoW clone in space though.
Originally posted by paulscott they can afford to do whatever they want. no new investors will be needed, and investors won't say no since they were only expecting 200-300 thousand users for WoW.
Not to mention that they have a huge market of players, which was why WoW was so successful in the first place. When the new StarCraft was being talked about I thought at that time they 'may' be considering an MMO model, perhaps they still will.
They 'may' surprise us all with something completely different. Its a wait and speculate. I thought WoW was a fun game, but lacked the type of depth I like in an MMO. I am very curious to see what Blizzard has to offer.

Think about it SC2 comes out end of next year. It ends with a open kinda ending like WC3 FT. After a few months everyone has played through wanting more then BAM they announce SC online. They would be stupid to not do SC.
Hold on Snow Leopard, imma let you finish, but Windows had one of the best operating systems of all time.

I honestly don't see them doing Diablo. Starcraft, Lost Vikings, or some other new game. If they were planning on a new Diablo game I think they would have placed the smack down on Flagship Studios for what a blatant rip off Mythos is of Diablo 1 and 2.
I honestly don't see them doing another Diablo game because Blizzard North were the sole designers of Diablo and I don't see Blizzard risking their quality by trying to make it with some new developers.
Currently playing: LOTRO & WoW (not much WoW though because Mines of Moria rocks!!!!)
Looking Foward too: Bioware games (Dragon Age & Star Wars The Old Republic)
Not a chance in hell. Why would they prostitute themselves out on someone elses work when they have proven they can make games in rich in lore as any out there.
I do think it will it a starcraft mmo with starcraft setting the stage like warcraft3 with wow.
With an outside chance of a totally new original theme for a game.
I think it would have to be a starcraft MMO. Let's face it, there are no good scifi MMOs out there right now. SWG is someplace lower than clusterfuck central, along with the rest of SoE's pathetic scifi themed stuff. EVE is alright but its a space MMO, not a planet based scifi MMO. Blizzard would be much rewarded if they gave something for all of the people who hate the fantasy crap.
Think about it SC2 comes out end of next year. It ends with a open kinda ending like WC3 FT. After a few months everyone has played through wanting more then BAM they announce SC online. They would be stupid to not do SC.
i agree with this completely. i'm willing to bet it's already well into development.
Tbh if they do make a mmo based on starcraft i hope it is a MMORTS don't like star craft but i love RTS games and their is no real AAA MMORTS games out there. There isnt any on the horizon that are worth noting either tbh.
Most likely though expect a Tabula rasa esc game if it is star craft since it fits blizzards style to take other games rather than be orginal which is what they need to be to create a mmorts theres not really any done well enough to justify cloning and polishing. ;p
I dont think we will get another everquest clone, they already made an everquest clone any thing they could improve on wow can be done through an expansion tbh, as a total reworking of the game mechanics seems pointless when their current ones are so populer.
Expect what ever they do make to be a clone of whatever game is succesful in the future, who knows maybe they will make a Sandbox pve game that would probably be quite fun even though i prefer pvp.
Some thing just twigged. Cancellation of Starcraft: Ghost. New MMO. They have tons of 3d graphics models, textures and other media resources left over from it to add to the new MMO. For some reason. I just see the ashes of Starcraft: Ghost being turned into a Starcraft MMO.
only if games workshop allow it.
SC got cancelled for biting into the wahhammer40k thing too close.
They stopped SC development because it was too much like 40k. Blizzard built most of their worlds off of GW worlds ( both warcraft and starcraft) they even think GW in the credits for their games. but SC was way too close to GW lore so was /is/ will be reworked to but some distance between the games.
I read an article somewhere online stating this, not sure if it was real or not , but at the time it seemed a good reason and made sense.
Tho i would buy a SC version of WOW at least get a month on it to se if its just a clone or a stand alone game.
Never underestimate the power of stupid people in large groups.

Starcraft: Ghost got canceled for the same reason Warcraft adventures got canceled. The game wasn't up to Blizzard's standards so they pulled the plug. (Wish other companies would follow their example.)
If they do a starcraft mmo I can see them using some story / plot elements and maybe alittle art resources for Starcraft: Ghost but not much.
I really don't think they are going to make a Starcraft MMO. I have played both Starcraft and Warcraft RTS's and they are very similar. If they were to create a Starcraft MMO it would be like "World of Warcraft 2: In Space!" And if they are going to do that, might as well just create a WoW 2, which I really don't see happening due to the fact that it would provide extreme competition to WoW 1, and if WoW 2 was bad, it would create people probably wouldn't play either. I think Diablo is the most likely of the options, because it is the most different of the three. I bet if they were to create a Diablo MMO they would also tone it down a bit so it would be rated T and not M, and they could still bring in the younger one's money. All of this leads me to believe that they are going to come up with a completely new title. (Well about as new as the people at Blizzard can come up with, as I have never really thought of them as the creative/innovative type... at all) To be honest I really don't know what they are going to come up with, if they even make another MMO. But, if they are, my bet is on a new title.

One of the entries is

This could mean nothing; they just want someone with lots of experience.
