8800GT + VG = SWEET!

Well, I upgraded my GPU from a ATI x1950 to an 8800GT, and all I can say is WOW!

I'm playing at 1920x1200, and getting 45-55fps on "Highest Quality" with textures on ultra high, and lots of other options turned way up.  Playing it like this is really the way it is meant to be played.  Previously i was playing on "High Performance," and it looks insanely better now.

Now if I could just get rid of the hitch........

My other specs are:

Windows XP (32 bit)

QZ6700 CPU

4GB Ram

If you would ask me it looks like some one is paying someone to write something so more players emerge. But hey its early and I am tierd.

I agree.  I play on the setting one below the Ultra Highest, and the visuals are something out of a fantasy novel; it is as if they took the art work and executed it into the game.

I love the size of the world in Vanguard, the visuals, and sense of exploration.

Am running the 8800 GTX and run vanguard at every setting maxed at 1920x1200 and it runs flawless for me , actually get better FPS than alot of places in WOW believe it or not

I stopped playing about 5  months ago because they released a patch and i started crashing every 5 or 10 minutes Sence ive been back playing think ive crashed twice

Hitching at a chunkline is caused by hard drive reads.  Textures not in memory from the chunk and from every player's visible items have to be loaded, and the client will not continue until it is done.

I have not crashed once since I resubscribed, and I am really surprised.

Take a look at some of my other posts man, I'm legit!!!

    I'm just saying that

    a) the 8800GT is a really good card, especially since it is under $300 and

    b) this game is a lot more fun when the graphics are cranked, it gives you much more of an immersed feel.

You should see it at 3840x1024 on a digital Maxtrox tripple head to go.

    I have a 2.8ghz core 2 duo, 2 gigs of ddr800, and an 8800gtx.

I can play with everything maxed, however in large groups or in towns the FPS is just unacceptable. Anything under 25 fps~ is just to low for my preference. In the wilderness or solo I get 35-60fps easy. I just prefer it to be super smooth at all times, so for me this means turning the render quality to balanced and the texture quality to medium-high. The game still looks amazing, and keeps a much more constant FPS.

Still, I wish they'd fix the hitching when entering huge towns or when lots of players load onscreen at once (like when a group enters your view and loads...). I hear SOE has some much needed performance and character tweaks coming at some point which should really help.

edit-  I forgot to mention I also play with AA on (latest nvidia drivers allow AA to work in vanguard without messing it up), and at a resolution of 1680x1050.

I don't play anymore but when I was, I enjoyed the game, but one thing allways was a pain for me... The trees!  Trees just don't sway that much in real life.

I can handle leaves and some branches moving around, but it seems like all the god damn trees start swaying starting at the roots it seems like.

Once my Tabula fix is over I might come on back and see those trees again that I really hate so much.

Yeah.  A pal of mine bought the game yesterday and I was watching him run around on his newbie necro.  We were both in beta, and we were both stunned that he was able to max out the options.

Moving between chunks took awhile though so he eventually lowered the options a bit, but it was stable and ran well otherwise.

I don't know if I'd say that the game looks fun as I haven't played it since beta, but they've definitely made some impressive performance improvements.

Still no AA, I see. The jaggies are so bad, you can cut yourself just looking at one of their screenshots.

I love my games to have good graphics and all i can say is VG offers the best i have seen in any game. The textures, the art work, the distance you can see are all top notch.

However I too suffer Hitching and have a 8800GTX and a quad core with 2gigs of RAM.

The game runs smooth, as reported by others at 1920X1200 with frame rates up to 60 in the wilderness and 70 to 100 in caves and enclosed places, with High performance and Medium High Textures.Reducing Shadow details, Max lights, Specular Lighting gives big rewards in FPS. Running the game with 16XAA seems to have little effect on FPS compare to turning it off.

In the towns and cities it unfortunately goes down to under 24 FPS.

Since i am only in town for short times, it doesn't bother me so much, and have found that if i zoom in to First Person View the frame rate jumps up again to a manageable rate. Hopefully after the Character graphical optimization this won't be necessary anymore.

Oh yes the jaggies are so bad . lol you people never stop , is that the best you can come up with Coldmeat

AA works great in the game now if you use the latest nvidia drivers (not sure about ATI). Here's a screenie with just 2x AA on:

I run the game at 1680x1050, so 2x actually makes a much more significant difference then if I were at a lower resolution. Much better for sure!

great screenie, still waiting for the high quality video . . .

you can up it in stage6.divx.com ( with no quality losses )

you can fix alot of the hitching with the ramdisk fix

I got rid of a LOT of the hitching by kiling my pagefile (I have 4gb RAM so it was possible).  I still get a big hitch when "chunking" and when entering buildings....

I've captured some videos (full screen), one problem though is when I compress them in WMV or MPEG it kinda ruins the quality big time.  So I am trying to find a good codec before I upload somewhere....

Holy cow wow, thanks tripmode! I have 4gb ram also and got curious and turned mine off after reading your post and it helped a lot in game. That is amazing...

What do you mean by turning off pagefile, and is this something you can only do with 4gb of ram?

    Thanks!
