EverQuest II: New Amazing Movie

AdminAdmin Administrator RarePosts: 5,623

SOE has just released the second part of "Journey of Heroes" titled "Nightblood Battle".  It features a new short story and a breathtaking video showing group combat against a couple of really nasty "Nightblood" demons.  The great thing about this video has to be all the magic...terrific stuff!

You can watch the movie and read the story at this page...don't miss it!

All I can say is WOW!  I hope the stability and bugs do not ruin the experience but we will have to wait and see?

Ok, first of all, I just want to say that the movie was great!  I'm planning on buying EQ2 because I want to experience the cinematic feel that I hope the game will have.  That being said, I have one critism.  So please, before you flame me, take these thoughts in light that I actually think highly of this game.

Ok, anyway is it me, or are the animations incredibly slow?  It felt like the whole battle was on the verge of being in slow motion.  Did anyone else feel that, or was it just me?

I noticed that too!  It was very smooth [graphical], but it was at a snales speed.  image

    Could be:

    a) graphics settings were so high set that even their uber machines were lagging (John Blakely informed me that no system in existence can run EQII with all settings maxed out - it is designed to push "systems of the future to thier limits")

    b) could be a feature in the game to help players do more in combat (semi bullet-time) - this is just a guess though

    c) they could have slowed down the movie so that everyone could catch all the action, cause there was a heck of a lot of it going on - that's for sure image

Yes the movie did look like it was in slow motion but even then the battle looked like it was progressing at a good pace.  The part where you would notice this the most would be while walking from town to town.  Battle is kinda okay but if travel is the same....ugh!

When EQ2 was in early stages of the game, they decided to make battle scenes into slow motion so players could make more "thoughtful" decisions. Later on during the project they decided to wipe it. So i'm pretty sure the speed of combat will stay at that pace.

Anyways, about the video... I must say everything i see in the game is so detailed, from the ceilings down to the candles places on the floor. When that Shadowed-Man appeared in the room he had an awesome voice! Scared the hell out of me and really made me believe that SOE is really trying to immerse yourself in the world, almost like a movie.

The combat motions are very "dramatic", from when the scout snuck up on the deathfist to when she got knocked back to the floor, and jumped right back up into battle. Also, every spell animation i have ever seen in the game has been awesome.

Can't wait for video number 3!

That video is pretty awesome. The spell effects and the rogues dissapear move were much better then in most games. Also the textures on the enviroment, characters, and enemies are pretty nice looking, the floors and walls dont look like just one flat smooth surface. The sounds were pretty nice and it was cool to hear the boss guy talk before he summoned the other two. But I do agree with everyone else... The animations were nice but way too slow. It was wierd watching the rogue take 10 seconds to fall down and dodge a single blow. Other then that, looking good.

Not unexpectedly, these movies are much better advertising than the screenshots that keep being released.

The whole effect is awesome and I am really looking forward to playing this game. I have a system that should allow me to get quality close to that seen in the movie clips image

Now, I just wish SOE would make the clips downloadable from their site instead of buffered. It wasn't on Fileplanet yet but I'm sure it will be soon.

    A. I've heard you say that before, it always upsetting to me. Let me run that though the BS filter. "Our engine is bloated and cowish, due to our poor design and out non-intent on making on making quality code, rather than try to do the same things with less power the way so many others have, we'll make some jackass marketing statement about "pushing" powerfull machines"

In game you can patch hourly. There is NO reason why the game can't be made to run on the machine of today and patched/improved/exp packed for the machines of tommorow. If that answer got any lamer, I'd have to make it my sig.

Making a game so bloated it can't be run on machine on the market, isn't a "feature". It's a problem.

The only game that could possibly be more bloated than EQ2 will be Vangraud. (that other game with Brad McQuad)

    b. That wouldn't be much of a feature

    c. doubtfull.

So I dont get it, I go click on the movie pics, and I get an Image Viewer page thats blank.  This happens everytime I go to that link.  I have Cable modem, 2.7G, 1G RAM, so I dont get why I cant see it.  That other buffered link above works fine though.

Clever_Glove is still doubtfull of this game I see.  But as I see it it blows any other game I have ever seen away by about 1,000,000 times.  Methinks Clever just has some kind of vendetta against SOE.  BTW the game can run just fine on todays machines, and they have said that many times.  Its just that you cant max out all the graphic options yet and have it run smoothly.

If you watched the videos gamespy has to offer, they were insane, and were apparently run on "low settings" but that isn't official.

Anyways, people are going to upgrade their computers sooner or later anyways. Doom 3? Yeah i suppose that could run reasonable. But then the Unreal 3 engine? Yeah right.

I'm getting a new machine anyways so i shouldn't be too worried. Bring it on EQ2 image.

How can a game you haven't played yet blow away all other games? Have you tried to play it yet? How do know anything about this game other than what you see in a couple screen shots and movies made by VI's marketing department? It's cool if you think the game looks nice, witch is the only thing you can tell so far. Although I don't care for the look of it. But you can't say it blows anyway thing yet. You look silly trying to say so.

Graphics get you to look, Gameplay is everything.

Unless Im mistaken its gameplay footage, not a made up movie.  Its true the gameplay may suck, but if the game looks anything like this on my machines then Im sure I will like it.  If you look at WoW's gameplay videos it looks awful.  Dont be such a pessimist.  Even EQ1 is still better than any other MMORPG to date, content ruined by expansions, maybe.  But no game lasts forever.

On that same note, how can you act like it will be horrible?  Have you played it?  No.  SOE may be money grubbers, but they know how to make a good game with good gameplay.

No no, I mean gameplay as in UI, controls and interaction.  Since we havent played we dont know for sure.  I shoulda put more emphasis on "MAY suck".  I dont think it will.  EQ1 had great UI.

You must be sick or never played SWG. The gameplay on that game is horrendous, instead of improving AI of monsters they just added a 0 to the number of hit points they had.

You can pretty much solo anything in the game and PVP is so imbalanced its just silly. All in all it's a great chat room.

  • ramadinramadin Member Posts: 1,304

Ive played SWG and I wouldnt say its hideous, I didnt like its UI particularly but it isnt as bad as games like FFXI.  EQ had great UI and thats what Im going by.

Iv'e played WoW. It is anything but awful. It is the most beautiful game I hav ever played. Perfectly hand-scultped terrain coated with truly artistic and vibrant textures that were painstakingly manually painted on. Pixel shading lends a soft shimmer to the snow in relation to the sun and other little details is what makes this game gorgeous. I admit the char models could use a few more polygons and the water could have been taken in another direction, but the art design is flawless. EQ2 may push the limits of next generation systems and fill your screen with billions of particle effects, and super realistic player models, but it has nowhere near the artistic magnificence that is WoW.

I think I had the same problem. I had to update windows media player then it worked fine. Could be the same problem or something else.
