One simple sentence that expresses how I feel. No desire to elaborate on this subject.

Prove it or Shut Up. EQ2 has not been down a single full day, unscheduled, since launch, EVER. So put up or shut up troll.

If you were playing EQ2 during launch, you would have seen what kind of nightmare that was....and most game launches are.....I have been through both Turbine launches and they were much, much better.

Just for the record, I played EQ2 at launch and my server was never unscheduled down. They did have downtimes for fixes and patches, but these were scheduled.

At that time, I didn't follow the forums a lot, so I don't know about other servers. But my own server worked smooth at EQ2 launch. Actually the EQ2 launch was extremely smooth *shrug*

I think I would be more worried about slaughtering and completely failing to implement two of the greatest fantasy franchises to date.  It is nothing but embarrassing.

All day, bah! That happens in a lot of MMORPGs. SOE was all day too back when I played it. Mythic had daoc down for a good portion of the day for weekly updates. Even Blizz is offline half the day.

Things happen. NO reason to get mad

People need to get jobs if they are mad about a few servers down 1 day out of how many up?

$15 a month does not give you god status ..christ on a cracker.

Those who have jobs yet are still "mad" at the servers being down.. Go out and spend that money you earn and have some "Real life fun" you know, the stuff that actually matters.

Yes it has.   It sounds like you are recent to EQ2 and don't remember the launch and the massive roll backs those of us that played back then experienced.

LOL at all the EQ2 fanboys!

Just because ur game is great doesnt mean SOE run all the other titles the same.

I remember waiting ages to login into SWG. Random downtime etc. I say let the SWG devs work on EQ2 for a bit and let the EQ2 playerbase feel the true wrath of SOE

Easy killer,  It isn't like every game hasn't had its share of server outages.  However since you asked I will give you a few examples.  The question is will you now apologize to Zarynterk?

    24-30 Hours

    Nate Combs

SOE's EQ2 suffered a widespread outage after a server reboot (thanks MMORPGDot), documented in hourly updates  here.  From tales like this, we are of course reminded of how  our worlds, our actions in those worlds, and even our avatar's memories (persistent footprint)  are tethered to technology and  real world actions - "roll backs" and all.  The good news, though, is that on the tomorrow, when your toons get out of bed, they won't remember a thing.

    (from the MMORPGDOT article)

Although by now most of the problems should be behind them, Sony Online's 'EverQuest II' has been hit by a huge outage after a server reboot with all servers down for around 24-30 hours. You can read their somewhat desperate hourly updates here.

    Monday September 5 2005

    Greetings,

I would like to apologize for the downtime we experienced during the day and evening yesterday and half of the day today - Monday, September 5th, 2005. One of our primary servers had a hardware failure and a replacement part was required to get everything back up and running. Everything is now repaired and back to normal. We apologize for the inconvenience and confusion this may have caused.

    Regards,

Everquest 2 was further hampered by technical problems, with up to two days of server outage, and daily server downtime for patches.

Anyone who played EQ1 or UO knows what real server outages are like.

I think you should be the one to put up or shut up, since I think he was referring to SWG which was most likely before your time and he is right. It was and still is a disaster. Other games like Vanguard, MxO, Planetside have also been plagued with problems since day one. No need to bring proof, anyone who has played MMOs for any length of time knows this. Keep your fanboism to yourself.

While we can’t give you Monday back, we hope to ease the frustration many of you felt by extending your playtime. Additionally, affected players will receive an in-game gift to show our appreciation for your patience during the downtime:
    • For all players who had an active subscription on 11/26/2007 to any Turbine game, we will automatically extend your current billing period by one day. Your new billing date will be reflected at myaccount.turbine.com after the change takes effect.
    • Dungeons and Dragons Online™ players will receive a Candy Cane for every character on their account. This is an item with 30 charges of Heal Moderate and is usable at any level.
    • The Lord of the Rings Online™ players will be given a stack of five Scented Candles for each character on their account. These items are single-use consumables that provide a temporary increase to Hope.
    • For Asheron’s Call® players we are pleased to announce a Bonus Loot Weekend with a special improvement to the normal loot distribution for a limited time.
Now, sure, the in-game temporary items aren't blazing blitz-sticks of holiday doom or anything, but they admitted there was a problem, they worked all night to fix the problem, they're crediting the accounts of players for the lost time, and they're giving everybody something to put on their mantles to make up for it. I barely play the game at all anymore, but (aside from the last days of AC2) I like Turbine, I like the way they do business, and I like the way they handle situations like these. Stuff happens. They acknowledged it, fixed it, made up for it, and moved on. Let's do the same.

Yep, they owned up and made offereings to help ease the pain. Good move on their part, if you ask me. Most MMORPG companies would just tell their players to suck it up and quit whining (in not so many words).

I make spreadsheets at work - I don't want to make them for the games I play.
