Originally posted by Infliction Well since EA owns Bioware now, Id just go ahead and expect a mediocre game (although heavily advertised) with TONS of in game advertising. Yup I'm real excited for whatever comes from this.
I really hope you're wrong because I think that if I were the CEO in charge, I'd let Bioware do what it does best and I'll just watch from the sidelines and watch the money roll in. But then again, I'm not EA's CEO so god know what they're thinking, and what they will do to exert their authority with Bioware.
Bah, I've already prepared myself for point 1. They've already stated that. I even read some of the interviews and was disappointed when they used WoW in some cases as a "reference point". I honestly hope that Bioware will follow it's own vision instead. Bah, it almost makes me wish WoW was never created, not because I wish ill on the 9 mill that are enjoying the game. But because WoW has basically dumbfounded potential developers and has stopped any form of real progress and innovation for future MMORPG's. When will developers get it through their thick heads that the BEST way for you to compete is not to re-invent something already in existance (Usually, a lot of those products end up in the Shopping Channel) but instead to invent something completely different so you can STAND OUT from your competition. Oh well
As far as WoW is concerned--I believe there are gameplay elements and lessons learned from WoW that are definitely beneficial to any MMO, as well as things that aren't necessarily. Blatantly going down WoW's feature list and copying everything isn't necessarily smart (LotRO--I'm looking at you). If BioWare plans to implement lessons learned from WoW, I trust that they'll pick the right lessons and not the wrong ones.
Yes, almost every MMO in development will be looking to WoW for inspiration--and that will likely continue for awhile yet. Remember when Diablo II came out? Remember for a period of 2-3 years afterward the PC gaming market was flooded with lame isometric click-fests that were trying to cash in on the D2-style gameplay? That eventually petered out. It'll take longer for MMOs to move past this stage however, simply due to the longer development cycles.

You mean like that one made by a christian foundation that based their game on the "left behind" book series??? god I couldn't stop laughing when I heard about that.
Bioware's MMO could be based on the new Star Wars TV series coming out. Lucas is big into cross marketing and promotion. I can't wait because this MMO is going to be gold...

i agree. it would be a good commercial and marketing, tv series and a mmo, both for the people who will see star wars first time on the tv and the old school sw fans..

Unless the focus of the TV series has drastically changed, it will take place between ep3 and 4, a time when all the jedi had been wiped out / gone into hiding.
Any future SW MMO will have jedi in it--I consider this undebatable. It's a core feature of the franchise that makes it different from other sci-fi settings. Long story short, a future SW MMO will not be based on the upcoming tv series.
As an aside, for anyone into pen and paper gaming, WotC has announced a KOTOR-era sourcebook for their Star Wars Saga Edition RPG, due out next year.

You're right on there being on that for the live action TV series. But apparently they're going to redo the Clone Wars cartoon and make it 3d. Which is ok I guess, but I personally preferred 2d animation. Too much 3d in my opinion
Oh, also, IMO I still think Bioware's MMO, if it is SW, will be in the KOTOR era because of what's been mentioned before. A lot of players want to play Jedi and KOTOR is the best time frame to do it. Personally I'm fine with it. I MIGHT play a Jedi, but in all honesty, I'm leaning more and more towards being a Mandalorian to hunt them down nyahahahahaha!
Anyone feel like setting up a Mandalorian army when it comes out so we can hunt them all down? he he he. Why wait till after the clone wars when we can start wiping them out earler? *evil grin*
at this point I could care less. Im not really expecting anything revolutionary from Bioware.
I am For BioWare to come out with a bland MMORPG clone would be a disaster for the company and would knock them right off the throne as best RPG developer.
I think you already have see in future bioware EA and what they have said on a conference they will fall off of there throne it will be casual mainstream clone.
Of all solo rpg makers my hopes are more for bethesda then bioware to make a top mmo.
Hope to build full AMD system RYZEN/VEGA/AM4!!!

It's seemed rather quiet recently. Have there been no announcements/rumors lately that we can put our deductive powers to work? lol!
Ya i know this bioware mmo is the only reason i visit this website lol
