that would be awesome. It gives you more epic stories to look back on. I remember a lot more about eve online then I do warcraft and it's almost for sure because there was no risk in wow.
lets say you had this awesome character, if you died when the world died you'd look back on that character and be like man that awesome playing that character. If you got bored and quit you'd just be like I had a lot of cool stuff but I just didn't care anymore the game got so lame.
Which Final Fantasy Character Are You? if I were to kill a titan tomorrow and no CCP employees showed up to say grats I would petition it. Waiting for: the next MMO that lets me make this macro if hp < 30 then CastSpell("heal") SpellTargetUnit("player") else CastSpell("smite") end
maybe not so much as a destroyed world. But i would love to see permadeath implemented in an interesting way.
Tbh the only games I have played that had a good permadeath system is tactics orge series, where you had some interesting characters that had parts in the storyline and if they die their gone forever and thus removed from the storyline, and if you die well your fucked if you didnt save ;p
And the elder scrolls series before oblivion, you killed a main quest giver tuff luck you wont be able to do the main quest any more, same with all the NPCs you kill someone you wont see them again lol that would probably get boring quick in a MMO though unless there were ways of players taking over the roles of the NPCS like guild leaders, or even other lower ranked npcs moving up in position.
I think a permadeath system which is what this basically sounds like you want would be best added to a any type of survival game. Since it goes with the game type rather than takes away from it. You could have leader boards to see who surivives the longest, who gets the most kills before they die, etc would probably make a fun competitive game.
I am not sure tbh, the whole world getting destoryed rather than just your individual characters wouldnt really feel like a risk to me, rather than take away from the risk and make pvp feel no better than respawning in a wow bg just to fight again till you get bored win or lose. Since the world would end you would create a new character and go about doing the same thing again sounds like a long winded respawn process rather than risk based gameplay.
Maybe if it was implemented in a way where it was fully up to the players if the world gets destroyed or not that would be interesting, like say an MMORTS that let you have nukes but if to many people launched a nuke it could destroy the world or make certain parts of it in hospitable.
For some reason I have the image of Global warming online popping up in my head as I right this lol
