Except of course, that the posted link doesn't answer the OP's main question, when will the expansion come out? (but it does contain tons of useful information)
To be determined appears to be the current answer. One favorite 'guess' people like to make is link its release date with that of AOC or WAR, figuring that Blizzard will use this release to counter the stem of defections. Strictly a rumor though.

When is the new WoW expansion supposed to be out? Is there an official site for it?
The new WoW expansion Wrath of the Lich King what I think and was told that it won't be out until mid to late 2008 to early 2009 because they are doing beta testing in January-Febuary 2008 so then they have to work out the kinks then they have to find a good release date for it then you have to wait to get a copy then you can play.
there is no official date but, as above it is expected to come out in Q2 or Q3 of 2008. Basically around late spring or early summer. If you think about it, TBC is not even a year old. Generally, even a company as big as blizzard, you would give each expansion about a year before the next.

EQ expansions were every six months for several years.

One of the big reasons I never bothered to try that game, catching up 7 expansions is just ridiculous :S
All this "it will be q2-q3"or "q4-2009"is all hearsay,Blizzard have said time and again"it will be out when it is ready"end of and no room to discuss,That message says it all.

For TBC, Blizzard announce contests on how to get into Beta. Then a few months after that was over, they started Beta, which ran for a few months (4-5?).
Based on history and the amount of information they have released on WOTLK, I would say it would be safe to bet that it won't be released until July/August if everything goes perfect.
Dec 2008/Jan 2009 is my guess, but Blizzard is known for their fluid dates. They release things when they feel it is ready.
Blizz will definalty keep Lich King caged untill WAR starts to nibble at their's scrips
Yeah - I think BLizz is going to hold on this one until they see the impact of WAR or AOC. IF all is well then why pull out the big guns. If those games dig into subs then I am sure LK will be put out quickly.
I just hope that Blizz is holding back information on this expansion. I mean, I really hope that they haven't put all their cards on the table.
There were a lot of 'unknowns' about TBC prior to launch (well, up until 2-3 months before launch, that is).
I genuinely wish that Death Knight wasn't the only 'hero class' coming out with the expansion. I know it fits the expansion and the content, but rolling 1 out at a time really isn't 'enough', imho.
At least with TBC both factions received 2 additions:
Horde: Blood Elf and Paladin
Alliance: Draenei and Shaman
There was some incentive to roll new toons. How many BE pally's and DR sham's did you see at launch? More than I could count, tbh. People trying out new servers, new factions, new classes... it was cool.
I would simply like to see 'more' than just 1 new playable (unlockable) character class.

I think their long term plan is to have several Hero classes but I agree that only one at launch is not enough. Perhaps the WAR and AoC releases will force them to add more stuff OR they already have more planned but are holding it back as you mentioned.
It would be nice to hit the annual mark because 1yr is about the time it takes the majority of guilds and players to hit max level and fully experience all the added content. Saving it to counter WAR would be a descent idea; considering they're putting new PvP pulled from DAOC/WAR.

Personally I hope WAR or AoC will be able to compete - I'm tired of having only one game that has the polish and addictiveness of WoW lol
Blizzard has said, well, a bunch of times now that Death Knight will be the only Hero class to launch with WotLK.
They are only launching with 1 because they want to nail the unlocking process, class role, class strength and class abilities perfectly the first time out.
Blizzard has also stated that more Hero classes are planned and will be released when they feel they are ready to be released, which does not mean 1 Hero class per expansion.
With that being said, I think Blizzard will either try and come out around the same time to keep people from leaving WOW for WAR. I don't think that AOC really factors in here.
I dont think WOTLK will be impacted by AOC or WAR at all
no question that Bliz will keep a watchful eye but it would be kinda stupid to rush an expansion out to head off a competitor (I dont think any MMO has ever done this - even EQ1 with its 14 expansions)
that said,
the expansion *after* WOTLK may be influenced by both AOC and WAR

but more likely, blizzard will do expansions every 2 years

But they don't need to. Their customers seem willing to stick with the game, even if they're not really happy playing it, so why should they bother?
Who the hell are you, and why should I care?
Congrats! You are a victim of Trollstar!
Blizzard is slow at everything. Anyone remember Diablo 2 updates?
But then they delayed it to January 2007 because it wouldn't be ready in November.
Blizzard would like to do an expansion every year but they have also said they wont release anything until it's ready.
I can answer that. Just like all Blizzard products it will be released when it's done.
