This has got to be the stupidest post I have ever seen.

You guys know that there are players that still play Horizons right?

Anyhow who cares if this game or that game has so many players. I play EQ2 because I like it. If you don’t, don’t freaking play it.

    Amazing,

Another poster, another wannabe that is looking for a  "Insert name here" Killer.  Who in the heck cares who kills what     Seriously if you look at any game that is being tracked or not, there is one common thread, the people there enjoy playing it.  If I used the "Killer" metric to decide if I thought the game was good then I would have missed out on many hours of enjoyable gaming with Jumpgate, Lotro and EQ2.  None of these is a game that is a killer, but each game brings something to the table that makes it enjoyable.

I am not even going to elaborate the fact that WAR is still not released and  you still do not know what you will have in a game  ( Vanguard, EQ2 Release and many others ).  There were so many that were hyped to hell and when they released they initially bombed.   There are so many that looked good and never made it out of the gate.   If your metric of a game is how it is going to crush the competition fine,  just do not expect everyone else to say wow and follow your lead.  BTW here is a   that way you can follow the other sheep.

Will it loose players to WAR, yes, but not enough people to hurt the game.  Follow my word, AoC is overhyped and won't put a dent in WOW or WAR.
Blizzards Diablo 1 died.  You'd be hard-pressed to find anyone playing that game..

Also.. just because a game is popular.. doesn't mean it's a good game in everyones minds.  WoW is popular.. but there are many factors that make it that way.  Almost any machine can run it.  There is simply nothing else out there that is good in the fantasy setting.  Lots of kids playing it.  It's free in China.. what?

Personally.. it was kinda fun while I played.. but I will never go back.  I finally figured out that the game is just not good.  I need a purpose to play.  WAR will give me that.. the only reason I didn't go back to DAoC is because I didn't have my old account.. and I didn't want to make a new account in a world that has been there for so long.

By no means will Blizzard be hurt by losing even half of it's subs.. they've already made billions of dollars.. but everything comes to an end.  Also, people are still playing UO.. doesn't mean its a good game though.

Speculation on something that interests you is not stupid.  People have been entertaining themselves in this manner since we've been able to communicate.  Originally the speculations were gambles that impacted the survival of the race but they have since become an entertaining aside from everyday thoughts.  So long as people know they are only speculating on what MAY happen and not claiming what they say is fact, there is no harm done.

In fact, this type of speculation, when applied to different areas of interest is what has progressed the human race to it's current level of technology.  Every scientific discovery was originally an educated guess that was thoroughly tested an evolved over time.

Saying it is stupid for people to speculate is very close to calling human nature stupid.  There is nothing wrong with it as long as facts are used to support your hypothesis.  Simplying saying "I think WAR will kill WoW" definitely IS stupid.  I will agree with you in that.  Following that statement with facts that serve to support the statement suddenly make it not stupid.

Simply put, let people have their fun.  If you don't want to participate, fine.  Either way, threads like this don't hurt anyone and they serve to entertain people.  Attacking those who participate in entertainment for the sake of being entertained is far more stupid that someone making a statement such as "WAR will be a WoW killer".

As you stated here, 500k subsribers doenst says that it will kill WoW. Sorry it is a bit of a WoW clone. That isnt something bad, but dont think to kill what you try to perfectize.

Really, a WoW clone in a different setting might be enough to entertain lots of people. And isnt that what is the most important, joy?

It just seems to me that always discussing WoW on the Warhammer forum is....

But, hey -- I'm crazy that way.

Also I don't think wow will take that big a hit. The asian fan base that loves blizzard will not imo switch from this to warhammer; they simply haven't been exposed to the IP like north americans/europeans have. I hope it does give wow a run for its money in the domestic US & EU markets though.
A large chunk of the asian market is gold farmers.  I have no idea what percentage, but it's quite reasonable to say there are a LOT of gold farmers in WoW.  I'm assuming that most of the gold is sold to Americans and Europeans (again, I have no proof or numbers, but it seems a reasonable assumption).  If the American and European MMO players shift over to WAR, the gold farmers will reduce the number of accounts they hold on WoW because the gold just won't sell as well.  They will try to get into the WAR gold market at that point, further increasing WAR subs.  Hopefully Mythic has a good idea on how to combat that.

My point is that there are industries based around the success of WoW.  Anything that puts a dent in that success also impacts the industries connected to it.  I would predict a sort of trickle-down effect that will further decrease WoW subs over time after the initial departures for WAR and AoC.

Word of mouth (assuming both WAR and AoC are amazing games) will also serve to further the decline of WoW playerbase as people hear how wonderful these other games are.

The death of WoW will most likely be a very slow, complex process.  Based off my experience, people are looking for something new.  Not everyone, but probably 7 of 10 players (again, this is based off my experience, which is limited primarily to the US market).

This is one of the dumbest things I've seen in a while.

No the asian market is not mostly gold farmers, there's probably 4 million plus out there, on *their own servers* that are not farming gold to sell to themselves.

As much as I would like for WAR to kill WoW hype.. It won't for while.. Blizzard as like 9million subs, its going to be while.

Now once I get better PC and WAR Is out, I'm leaving WoW for good. Like many others.. But you also have to look at this people said. ''Vanguard:Sega of Hroes was a WoW killer.'' Yet it didn't even come close..

Aka, I blame that on SOE though that game could have been bigger if they wasn't so damn lazy<.<

WoW playerbase is burnt out. They are looking for something new. but the fact is that WAR or AoC or any other released game must be at the same calibre as WoW, else all those players will eventually return to WoW. HOwever, I believe WAR and AoC will be of that calibre.
Eventually WAR, AoC, WoW will all live together ...peacfully

Czzarre I respect you and your opinion but I do believe WAR has a chance at doing this unlike any other game.  Not perhaps kill WoW, but take a good 70-85% of its pvp population.. You know, all those people who log in just to do arenas and curse everything else in the game?  It adds up to a lot of the over all population.  Word of mouth and viral marketing, anything is possible.

Even though WAR is not a WoW clone I believe basic similarities will make players feel as though they can relate to WAR and give it a shot.

One more thing.  I think my perception of a WoW killer is different than most peoples.  In my mind if WAR has more subs than WoW even if its 500 (especially if its jacking its fan base).  That puts it at number 1.  Not nock WoW to nil, but put it in its place?  Agree or disagree?
