It won't happen. I know you already know this, but unlike it most MMOs, you don't automatically attack. You have to hit the keys for the combos and the attacks are pretty slow. Running around the enemy would just make them lose time that they could be attacking, because they have to stop to attack (like I said, unlike the others where you can constantly jump and run and attack). So if you're jumping around like that, you're simply wasting time that could be used for hitting the enemy. In the end, you'll die if you constantly move around the enemy, because they are getting more hits on you than you are hitting them. Most of the fights find the two fighters standing right in front of each other, not moving. Don't worry about it, it won't happen here, but I can't say the same for WAR. =/
Well dunno about you, but I can simultaneously move AND use my attacks, so unless some crappy mechanic is implemented which prevents movement while using instant abilities or vice versa I see no reason not to abuse field of vision/attack of opponents unable to even turn the proper direction.
You guys are giving two completely conflicting versions of how combat works
What Weskhan1 said , could actually be quite good system
Its not what it could be, it IS the system they are using at the moment. So as of right now, you cannot bunny hop and attack, and you cannot run around an enemy slashing expecting to win. Thats fact. End of thread!
This is a valid concern but it is easily bypassed with a jump lag or stamina system. WoW is made to be very arcade like, and instead of fixing that issue by buffing the classes that needed to do it to compete they designed around those classes doing this. AoC would be foolish to that approach with it's style and direction.
the first guy to LOLCOPTER me will end up with 3 well placed arrows in his head from my 3 buddies waiting in the bushes for proper PVP'ers. i write down his name and HUNT HIM DOWN
MMO wish list:
-Changeable worlds -Solid non level based game -Sharks with lasers attached to their heads
No doubt that AoC's revolutionary combat system will make or break the game. I just feel it is too early at this point to predict how the combat system will actually play. Even if you particpate in beta, the game is not finished yet--it still has a lot of work left. I am a bit skeptical myself with AoC's combat system. I feel it sounds too good to be true and too easy to exploit. However, it is too early to tell at this point.

Hehe. jepp, thats a word.
I really hope that strafing only is useful as defensive strat. I also hope horses strafe very (realistic) slow, so the lolcopters have to dismount.
But as far as i understand the combos, there wont be anything like roflcoptering. If you got a combo ahead-and-left or ahead-and-right your chances are very high to hit the lolcopter. On a lucky hit his head lies on the ground while his body is still coptering. /shrugs I do belief that there will be cobos in all directions. 360 degree swordswings are nothing new in games. If you look at the movies, the casters are able to place a circle and blast everything withing that circle. The circle is huge enough to blast a copter anytime.
It looks like people are either offensive and hit or defensive and run or strafe. Thats ok.
I do not see any problems with trying to get behind your enemy and constantly strafing and moving.I myself used it a lot although it did not limit me to using basic attacks. Heck i had whole keyboard configured so that i can throw all i have at enemy without letting go of movement keys. And i consider it an art if you do it properly. It is not really my problem that people can't control their camera well enough to face me. I had no trouble against others using same style when i was on my caster. The most stupid part was when people used so called "circle strafe" style just running around in perfect circles around you while hitting their SS key, but that is easily countered. And yes there are so many stagger/stun/hold skills that make you stand still more often than not.
The worst that would happen to pvp in conan would be if it was like the one in Lineage 2 where two melee fighters meet face to face and just start mashing those keyboard buttons while standing still. Reminds me of those piano lessons i took long ago. I sure as hell don't want the invasion of "Beethovens".
Oh and forgot to add that above mentioned style was used in pvp in WoW(for those who do not know and haven't played that game). And also in my opinion freedom of movement adds a lot more strategy to the pvp than pure buttonmashing.
1. There is a stamina system that will eliminate jumping around.
2. There is colision detection. Depending on how large that sphere is made you cannot run through your enemies.
3. To move fast you will need sprint. Which your enemies can do and that drain stamina. Depending on how fast sprint drains stamina lolcopter will be a viable way to fight.
4. was not lolcopter coined so because the ones using it was saying "lol" all the time while they were flying around their oponents?
For one I do not think this.. method... will work at all with AoC. They have put more worth and power in the normal attack, thus completley voiding the "why have normal attack when I can mash buttons."
Then of course there is the barbarian. Doesnt really matter what you are doing if he is swinging a huge 2 hander in a circular aoe attact then you will just be easier to hit running around in a circle. hehe
One thing you guys are forgeting or maybe I just don't know what the hell I'm talking about. One BIG difference is there is no auto-lock.
And, what does this mean?
This pretty much means the person can't just target you and run around and hit you like in WoW or DAoC like someone brought up earlier.
It just want work like it did in those games, atleast if my understanding of how the targeting system works; is right....

Thats right, and say for melee as example, your sword has an arc where it hits say anything from the top right shoulder down leftwards, say. If your running around your opponent clockwise or anticlockwise, your just not going to hit them, until you move your angle of attack more direct to them. Once you do that it wont be a LOLCOPTER or whatever its called these days!
Anyway, give me till the middle of January and i'll find out for sure and try to film it!
Originally posted by Lobotomist Originally posted by Sovren1 Having what I called earlier a "crutch" in the system is imo an unneeded mechanic. While it may support some sort of imaginary idea of fair play, it's just another limit to what we can do as players.
You see this is exactly what I am talking about. Good number of people see this gameplay valid one. But not all of them. Actually lets take example of ultimate pvp-skill game : Counter-Strike. It has the bunnyhopping tactic , which could be and is very powerful in right hands. Developers of CS never saw this as a a wierd tactic so they left it alone. But than you have a game like Battlefield , where not only you can not run(sprint) and shoot ,or jump and shoot - but it also eats your stamina , as well making your aim go bonkers. Is this a crutch over CS players ? I dont think so. I think it is more realistic. Does it limit the gameplay over CS ? No , it opens diferent gameplay.
But anyway. I still think, and this discussion only proves it , AOC will be bunnyhopping, lolcoptering heaven. Maybe it will not be the ultimate pvp strategy , but it will be present , and annoying as ever
Ya...I agree. Regardless of how or what people say the system will be like to try and defend itself from it, it will be there. Personally it only makes those who come up against these type of tactics better. You adapt and overcome any tactic thrown at you or you don't win.
But to your comment about Battlefield and CS, um...bunnyhopping is still seen in Battlefield. Players make up rules to try and stop it but if it's a ranked server, you can't really make rules that change game play or how one plays. If it's in the game, it's allowed.
Not sure what you meant by quoting that line though. The "crutch" being an auto-face type thing is what i was speaking of. Hope you were too. I don't like it, but it works for some games.

I thought it was called ROFLCOPTERING.

As I recall , at least in DAOC, LOLCopter was easy to defend by just backup up while you fought. Would this technique not work in AOC as well?
