Well I do agree that SWG does deserve its own special award, considering that SWG was drowning out all of the others. No need to list SWG as "the Worst of this and that", when it is simply "the Worst of all." However, the delivery or choice of words used for this special award didn't exactly go over very well.
I was hoping that this voting would have gone for about two weeks rather than one, that wasn't a whole lot of time.
And that is why...
Conservatives' pessimism is conducive to their happiness in three ways. First, they are rarely surprised -- they are right more often than not about the course of events. Second, when they are wrong they are happy to be so. Third, because pessimistic conservatives put not their faith in princes -- government -- they accept that happiness is a function of fending for oneself. They believe that happiness is an activity -- it is inseparable from the pursuit of happiness.
Wow, some folks certainly are taking the MMOWTF awards seriously. Dan was just trying to provide variety in his own awards. I honestly don't see the problem. Dan went way out of his way to acknowledge the SWG hate, but in the end the MMOWTF awards, which are based I remind you, on a tongue-in-cheek editorial column, are just for fun. There is a reason that these awards don't have badges or even polls as do our sanctioned awards. Once again, the MMOWTF awards are just meant to put a smile on people's faces.
You missed the point of why people are upset. It's not mainly because SWG was taken out, although that stinks of being bought. The main reason people are pissed is how we were so flippantly and blatantly insulted. He calls us "forum terrorists" which is offensive in and of itself and he then also implies that it was just a few people with alt accounts posting several times. I do believe jackass is the correct term. I hope SOE pays you enough, you're certainly in their pocket.
SWG Tempest: Cardo Dycen RIP Eve: Cardoh Dycen I support random drug testing for all SOE employees
Hmm, the cutting of SWG in all categories is a decision that makes people think it's connected with the SWG forum "overhaul" it recently underwent. Anyway, what really cracks me up were the 2 comments :
1. "Take 2 Bioware employees and call me in the morning."
Lmao!!! Priceless. Let's see what happens in 2008 you miserable meatbags
2. "Set phasers on lawyers only".
Haha. Yeah. Shields up, red alert!! We got incoming company incompetence at 12 O'clock !!!! All MMO players brace for impact and get me a damn' damage report asap.
Merry Christmas to all and Happy New Year from the European Union

SWG:NGE deserved that award! Thanks to Dan for the initiative!
SOE really should put a bullet to the head of this game and release it from its misery of being the WORST MMO in the market, with just about any other MMO trampling over it.
"There's one MMO developer that doesn't want the money put in front of them - SOE"
I have to say, after reading this, former SWG players are scary...
Pretty well the least fun people I've ever witnessed as well, I thought the list was very funny (even if i do happen to like a few games listed) and lighthearted. Suppose it just takes one statement to make those people who can't give up the past angry x_x
He gave it, "biggest mistake in mmo history," for christ sake. I'm sorry you can't accept that it would be dreadfully boring to read a bunch of swg bashing, which we could gleefully read on any forum on the net.
And its quite a stretch claiming mmorpg.com is owned by soe considering the other big award loser is vanguard...
Give it a rest people, I think you've sufficiently proven his statement right...

Actually, I found that fans of pre-CU SWG were some of the most fun people to be around. I laughed my ass off for nearly 2 years straight with all the good times we had. It was quite an experience, too bad you couldn't have been there.
Any MMO out now can take a lesson in how to build a community from pre-CU SWG. Regardless of it's problems this is the one aspect SOE got right with SWG.
Lastly, when you tell people to give it a rest, what you're doing in fact is asking people to accept mediocrity. The last thing this genre needs is more mediocrity, therefore I encourage everyone to speak out against stagnation.

Actually, i was there, I found the game fun and the community fun -then- but now you all seem like a bunch of bitter old men who can't take a joke.
And I'm not saying you should accept mediocrity, I'm saying you should move on to something else to be fanatical about that seems productive then some dead game that isn't coming back. Honestly, it gets old and tiring to listen to and I doubt at this point anyone aside from the people who fall into the group take you guys seriously anymore.
There is a difference between progress and living in the past, between memories and wanting the old days back, it really is time to move on from it.

First, if you find it old then stop reading it. Nobody's twisting your arm to read it. Second, I don't find being called a terrorist a joke, not in this day and age. Third, show me progress and and I'll be involved i it.
You make it sound like I want to be frustrated with the lack of choice in MMO's. Well, let me tel you that I'd much rather be somewhere else then here waiting on something progressive.
I personaly don't care for living in the past, but this genre has beed there since around '99. To play an MMO is to be gaming in the past IMO.
Terrorist by definition is not a person who wants to blow things up and kill people. Terrorists are people who want to cause a state of submission or fear in other people. You ultimately believe that your opinion is the only opinion that is correct and the only one that matters. Thus you want other people to be submissive to your opinion. So you're a terrorist.
You also don't know how to:
a) Take a joke.
b) Accept that this is a privately run site, and the people who run it are allowed to do whatever they want. And after all, nobody is twisting YOUR arm to read what they write, right? Indeed, so let's not be hypocritical!
Basically, SWG fans are entitled to whatever opinion they want, as are the non-fans, as is everyone. The thing is, where most people manage to post on the Internet and not come across as idiots, the SWG-bashers always seem to do so.
Now, I'm not posting here to enter some sort of argument, mostly just to state my findings. I've already got several classic posts copied to put into my thesis, so any more as a result of this post would be brilliant. Now, if anyone who has posted anti-SWG messages could PM me their full name and e-mail so that I can reference them properly in my thesis, that would be great, thanks.

In a strange way, I do feel forced to read it. In order to escape the pre-cu swg fanboys/girls one would need to leave entirely mmog forums (not just this site). You may think being called a forum terrorist is in poor taste but its not worth getting worked up over.
And yes, I do think you want to be frustrated at what you perceive to be a lack of choice in mmo's. There are plenty in the market and for the most part they do -something- different from each other, even if its just the flavor of the world. I think that your frustrated that there is nothing like what you had more then nothing exists.
And I'm sorry you feel that way, but in that sense, wouldn't platforming be gaming in the past because its been around since the 80's? At its core its still the same as it was then.
"In a strange way, I do feel forced to read it. In order to escape the pre-cu swg fanboys/girls one would need to leave entirely mmog forums (not just this site)."
Funny that , it must mean there are lots and lots of people out there that feel the same way as the swg vets do , not liking being ripped off and fed garbage , we were invited to give our opinions by this site and they didnt like what we said we are not all forum terrorists just players trying to get someone to make a good game .

I don't mind that you're fed up and feel like voicing your opinion, My sole problem is in it being voiced everywhere. And I'd make the claim that the third and fourth paragraph paragraph are entirely dedicated to your cause in letting everyone know that post-nge/cu swg is the worst thing ever. So much so I'd imagine this specific writer didn't have enough ideas to write humorously about swg being a failure after that point in each category. Also, I don't think one sentence in a lighthearted and humorous article was meant to spark this much controversy.
Wow. I went from laughing my arse off at the pseudo awards to staring in amazement at 7 pages of hate mail.
The accusations being tossed about are utterly ridiculous. (at least as far as these un-awards go.)
We all know SWG sucked after nge. It was acknowledged with its own award. I believe the author simply thought it would be more FUN to finally hear about something other than SWG. I agree.
It's not like he just deleted all SWG votes and didn't acknowledge them. He basically grouped them all up and said SWG sucks more than any other game possibly can...and all the other categories were basically runners up.
This way we get to make fun of several games instead of just one.
THis was suppose to be FUN people!
D.
p.s. Do the fanatics on here remind anyone else of the hippy guy from Forest Gump that tried to blame Nixon as the reason he hit Jenny and got his arse kicked in the black panther club?
Hmm, maybe using the word "forum terrorists" was somewhat strong (though very, very funny )
However, the response of some parts of the community reminds me of some very "determined" international reactions to certain satirical cartoons published in my small Scandinavian country not so long ago
All I can speak to is my personal feelings. As a former SWG player I think it deserves its own award and should live on in infamy for all time in the MMORPG sphere. Books should be written and aspiring developers and their corporate overlords should be made to march past its lamenting hordes as they throw rotting fruit at those responsible. To help them understand the…..level of attachment many give to this hobby/lifestyle before going into the business. Having said that if you play and enjoy Galaxies in its current form than good for you, I mean no disrespect to you or your game it simply no longer meets my needs.
On the issue of “forum terrorists” I again can only speak personally as many before me have, really I took it in the same vein one might use rebel or patriot. One man’s terrorist is another man’s freedom fighter etc etc. While I took no offensive to the term I do appreciate the enthusiasm of those who did. You provide a vital service. Your never forgive and never forget crusade will protect all of us (I pray to the whole pantheon of MMORPG deities) from further NGE’s. With that I wish all those who celebrate them a Happy Holidays!
And for all you people who make rediculous claims about MMORPG.COM and SOE being in bed together I would advise an english comprehension class post haste. If MMORPG is on thier payroll and giving the worst game ever award to SWG then SOE really is as stupid as some of you claim.
Sigh I love when a good thread gets hijacked by vapid mouth breathers. Wait no that makes it even better.
People your all nuts it's just abit of fun and dunno why your taking it serious and tbh i think Forum terrorist was right cause all we do is go forum to forum telling people not to buy the game cause it sucks so SWG dies lol. Anyways i'm more ashamed of what the community chose and WOW for worst graphics is th emain reason because people don't seem to hjave any artistic taste anymore.

I enjoyed reading that, I and I agree with the readers on nearly every point.
LotR is the lamest use of IP. LotR is almost shameful; it is not LotR. It is a bad game that uses LotR IP.
You might be right: bad launch = death sentence.

WoW and fast food = commercial successes.
I neither play WoW nor eat fast food.

Stradden: "Somebody set up us the bomb"
Stradden: "Dan?"

Not an unexpected result , its interesting watching how mmorpg gets out of telling the truth each year , oh well a C+ for origionality mmorpg .

I'm going to use thie posts in this thread by SWG haters for my Ph.D research study on "The ever decreasing intelligence of the Human Race."
We were all shocked by the "dumbing down" of SWG too.
