I got this idea from that other thread. What, in your opinion, are the top free MMOs. it can be ranked 1 to 5 or 1 to 10. No P2P or B2P.If you think they all freaking suck than you can still vote. It doesn't have to be good...it just has to stand out from the other free MMO crowd

1.Maple Story

2.RuneScape

3.Rappelz.

4.Silk Road.

5. Knight online (Despite the worst community ever)

 6.Perfect World

You forgot to actually add a Poll into the post.

And, just for the record, Anarchy Online would be my choice.

It really is a AAA MMORPG, still being updated with content (even the 'classic' free part).

And, it is not burdened (much) with micro-transaction crap.

It really is Free to Download and Free to Play.

A poll? What for? Its your opinion. It's not like im giving you mmos and telling you to pick which one is the best....

    Well, I did.

None of the ones you chose.

Which is why I expected a poll since you had given a list.

    No problem.  It's all good.

I think the list is the OP's personal favourites...

Well there is no such thing as a free MMO so let's get that straight first. Anarchy Online was the only free MMO, using in game ads for revenue, but they have a micropayment system now also. What you are asking is what is the best micropayment game.

    My vote is Shaiya Online.

I would have to go for Flyff or whatever it is.

Its has a decent look to it and has a few fun features.  Its is a hardcore grind fest though and gets dull, but its free sooooo don't cry.

I liked Sword of the New World/Granado Espada for the unique concept and well done graphics and setting. It's not my favorite, but I give credit and props where it's due.

Right now, I'm torn between Perfect World and Shaiya for top new free to plays. Shaiya has an awesome pace to it and some really good PvP. It's not the best or anything new, but it is some of the best RvR-style I've seen in a free to play. Perfect World on the other hand has some of the best character customization options, is probably the most stable and complete of the "WoW Clones" in the Item Mall market. But I'm reserving final judgment to see if it ever gets any of the features Chinese PW has. If the Guild Halls and other features finally become available in the English international, it'll get bumped to the top no problem. But Shaiya also has some features "coming soon"....so it's to be seen. Not enough customization options in Shaiya for my tastes...but the gameplay is smooth and again, best PvP I've seen in F2P.

Aside from those two....Dungeon Runners, not an MMO but it's fun to kill a few beasts and plow some levels. The ads are obnoxious but worth the bonus features for a free account. You don't like it, you should pay them the 5 bucks a month. Mythos has the potential to be REALLY good.

if anybody can sell me on any other f2p's in terms of rewarding PvP or detailed and fun PvE...I'm all ears.

    Its still silkroad.

    Silkroad was an awesome game.

Joymax....let's just say I just say I trust the team behind Fury before I trust Joymax.

I'm also torn between Perfect World and Shaiya. There's just so much to like about both games. Right now, I'm juggling my time between the two, although it's all just a time-kill until either Aion, Guild Wars 2, or Rohan comes out. Then it'll be a toss up.

Sword of the new world would be my #1 choice for free mmo, and 2nd would be RYL: Incomplete union

    playing eq2 and two worlds

  • jsw40jsw40 Member Posts: 214

    Silkroad.

I would probably actually pay for Silkroad if they would get rid of the lag and make it more English-friendly.

  • AckbarAckbar Member UncommonPosts: 927

Perfect World didnt impress me at all. Its just the same ol same ol maybe its a case of it being over hyped but It really wasn't better than average. Whats so great about shaiya. I haven't even heard of it / tried.

None of those games listed by either the OP or others even comes close to the game play of Anarchy Online.

Anarchy Online has charater customization, UI customization, engaging quests, tons of skills, pvp ... it's an amazingly well done game.

All of those Asian titles are not games, their mindless repetitive grind fests disguised as hamster wheels to let you "feel" like you are actually playing a game.

No one has ever heard of Lunia? It's pretty nice.

I cant believe no one has said DOMO yet (Dream of Mirror Online)

If you can get past the stupid name and anime graphics (I actually like them and I normally hate anime games) this game is unbelievably fun and has a unique class system. I havent been as addicted to, or had as much fun in an mmo since the begining days of EQ or DAOC.

I would say it is one of the better of all games out f2p or p2p And i have played alot of mmos.

    1.Mabinogi

    2.Mabinogi

    3.Mabinogi

I reckon Mabinogi is the best free mmorpg ever. It's not in english yet but the english CB is next year, January.

    LOL, so true ...

I'll say Shaiya. While it lacks some of the awesome features Perfect World has. It is a lot more immersive than Perfect World.

But both are still in "beta" (despite both having item malls running) and improvements in the future may make or break these two games.

Yeah that's the thing....PW and Shaiya are currently entertaining but that's only because there's the hope of what they say is "coming soon." If I don't hear any word on those features, I'll leave them probably after conquering everything else.

Anarchy Online is awesome. It's very detailed, has an awesome community, and the Classic free game is probably the biggest "free" game we're going to see. But the interface isn't newbie friendly; it took me a little bit more work to get familiar with the interface.

Reasons it's not getting mentioned as my personal best:

->Engine is showing its age. While I don't mind the graphics, the pacing of combat puts me to sleep. And these are freaking gun-running cyber junkies for christ's sake.  On top of that I get some killer lag in some areas. My PC can handle the newer MMO's just fine. In most areas and "dungeons" it runs decent but the newbie area is slower than molasses. This scares away most players off the bat when their first few levels (which are at old school MMO speed) is at 5 frames per second, with clunky polygonal toons that look like Quake 1 era.

->Involves a lot of researching in order to keep up and not gimp your character. I know AO players admire this fact and love the complexity of their game, which I respect. But it's easy to miss important things; a lot of stuff about how stats and weapons work aren't explained or clarified in game.

->The world is huge. But it sucks when you go for zones without seeing anyone. It feels empty at times.

There's other things, but overall it's just a dated engine tagged with a development system that can get someone over their head, it's hard to convince my friends and guildies in other games to give this one a shot. I mentioned Shaiya because:

->It's easy to hop in to play

->It offers a fair amount of quests and things to do to keep grind at a minimum

->It actually looks good, moves at a good pace

->Easy for me to pick up when I'm not playing one of my bigger games I'm invested in.

->PvP is early to get into, fun as hell, and actually requires some skill based play.

I admit its faults as well

->Still a Korean Lineage II clone

->Limited customization options; although you can pick gender and face and limited hair. Armors look pretty much the same based on levels. Half the classes even wear similar skins.

->Lack of Word Wrap feature in their quest dialogue; although if they would fix it the english isn't bad.

Anarchy Online would be great for a free game to make your primary game. In that respect, it's very detailed, very persistant. Player owned cities and outposts, lots of crap to do. And the community is very active, very zealous and passionate for their game. After they get their engine update (believe that's in the coming year?) I'll probably come back to it and give it another go.
