And the eve cloning is interesting, especially seeing as they are using it in a different fashion (yes they both allow you to save your character, but the Tabula Rasa version also allows you to reallocate skill points and soon attribute points as well)
The Eve cloning is only to preserve your character from losing skill points if you get pod-killed.
The Eve jump-cloning is only for instantaneous TRAVEL across large distances.
The TR cloning system is totally different as it allows you to create NEW characters and have those characters head down different skill trees or skill allocation choices.
Saw a couple of comments mentioning this in comparison to Anarchy Online and citing better graphics as one reason they tried TR as an alternative Sci-Fi MMO (does anyone even count SWG anymore?). FYI, Funcom just released a new video demoing their upcoming graphics engine overhaul for AO later this year:
Originally posted by Blkcat Originally posted by Cryptor Logo's, which honistly is the only "new" thing in this game Its just sad how far off you are with your comments. On a positive note the game is great and thousands people are havign a great time playing it, including myself.
Well, to me it was the only new thing, but I have played alot of games. Be that as it may, care to elaborate where I'm off the mark? Least I was polite enough to actually express my opinions and supported those opinions with in game experiences.
What else is new about TR?
Well I would have said putting them all together in the same MMORPG was new. But then I havent played all those games you have - so they are new to me.
So, again, aside from logo's, what else is ground breaking on this game?
Aarrrrrggggghhhhh - no changing the terms of the discussion. You didnt ask what was ground breaking, you asked what was new. Ground breaking - nothing New - again probably nothing if you have played lots of mmorpgs.
Combining them in the one game is what I would say is new.
Care to comment on the stick up the arse jump?
I didnt comment because I didnt see anything glaringly wrong. I dont care enough about the animations/graphics on a game to be bothered unless they seem glaringly bad to me.
If you dont like the jump animation - did you ever see the crucified swimming animation in beta?
I totally forgot about that animation. Wish i took some screenies of it now. But then again in the beta there was also a stage where we couldnt even swim and just ran on the water as well.
Still have it installed. Waiting for a major patch that will make it a real great game. Not sure how long should I wait. But I have a big disk, so it doesn't bother me much. Fact is that I am not playing it and not paying money for contuning beta test. But I am not sure about how long NCSoft will carry this weight. Potential is there, but it already took 6 years and 20 million dollars. And the game looks like not even close to being finished.
I think TR survives so far only because of the reviews on major gaiming sites and mags, who are kissing buts of their advertizers. But you can't fool people forever. Sure, you can sell many collector boxes this way, but main revenue supposed to come from monthly fees. And I don't think it's going to happen. IMO TR is running very fast trying to catch up with Auto Assault - yet another "revolutionary" MMORPG by NCSoft that went down the tubes unusually fast.
I kind of agree. I am slightly disappointed as well.
Quests are semi-monotonous. Go here and do this and go here and do that. At the same time though they can be kind of fun like in the instanced areas and such and I like the waypoint system with the radio icons.
It gets old very fast however. I have gotten to level 28 and everything has just started to feel the same. New areas and more quests to do and it all just feels the same. The real thing though is that i dont feel like i'm working towards anything. Class progression isn't really all that advanced and there aren't that many abilities to use really.
The aspect I don't like the most about Tabula Rasa is grouping is almost discouraged. Most things are possible on your own even at low levels for higher level quests/instances. I feel like mmorpg's were meant to be at the very least semi-interdependent even at lower levels and not necessarily at level 40-50 or whatever.
The community is severely lacking in my opinion. I'd say at least 75% of the people won't respond to you even if they are standing right in front of your face. General chat is completely overrun with pre-teens and hormonal teenagers and every day it's the same crap. However, some people in general chat help you out.
Classes are not very diversified and seem kind of bland. Nothing to signature about it. Mainly you just point and shoot and thats it. No real mental math or anything like that. Most of all it's a brainless run and gun.
Enemies are COMPLETELY repetitive you fight the same things over and over and over again and they all look the friggen same.
I didn't want to believe it at first, but I agree with whoever say that this game shouldn't have a monthly fee. I suppose eventually they'll add more content, but it needs a lot more. Maybe I'll come back when there is an expansion pack.
Good:
Fast paced (action packed)
Lots of equipment and things to buy
Additional content has a lot of potential
Control points
Neutral:
Soloable content (a lot)
Instanced areas
Waypoints to everything
Bad:
Community can be extremely juvenile
Class progression is bland
Truely unique items are not really needed thus they don't really have much value
Becomes repeitive over-time.
Not a whole lot of content outside of combat and questing
Not many special abilities and not used often (at least in lower levels)
If you have done at least some of the ToO's and cloned at 30 you would have started to see the diversity of the class system.
All the tier 4 classes play differently and require different tactics - my Exo uses quite different tactics than my Spy e.g.
The Spy approaches a group of mobs and starts by running Crit Wave then a Magnesium flash followed possibly by Traitor on one of the mobs in the group. He then usually barrels in with his sword to fight at melee range. Depending on the situation he may hold back and use a rifle or chaingun or run up and hit them with an emp bomb then carpet bombing to soften the whole group.
My Exo would approach the same group by first switching to a repair tool, casting clone, then finding a mob seperated from the main pack - take it out with an injector gun then raise it as a zombie. Then he would try to position himself in the middle of the mobs hit Recon 2 and clean them up piecemeal with a few shots each. Once there are enough dead mobs to make it worthwhile he hits Reanimation Wave which resurrects any within range as a personal zombie army.
TR dosen't hand it to you on a platter, you have to think about tactics and use your imagination to come up with strategies for your class.
I'm sorry to say that your criticism of General chat being full of juvenile idiots is sadly true, but it's also true for nearly every MMO on the market. I mean when people start complaining about General chat they usually refer to how much it's like Barrens (?) chat in WoW.
Hard to get unique loot items that require days or weeks of grinding the same content to get are indeed absent from TR and I think it's a good thing. That kind of content only caters to a small group of hardcore players with the time to spend on that kind of bore-fest and works well for the devs as a timesink in games with limited content.
The solo friendly nature of TR is a good thing imho, my experience in other MMO's of waiting hours for the right mix of classes to complete content was not fun.
I really want it to be my choice if I run in a group, not be forced to and it seems that you are asking for the content to be made harder so as to require grouping, I fundamentally disagree that that is a good direction for TR to take.
Strange, but I've done a LOT of grouping throughout my TR careers. LFG chat usually has a few folks looking for partners/groups to run instances.
I also find that the built in voice chat is a nice touch in a game where your hands are too occupied to type. And, yes, many of the things in TR were done in other games, but like a previous poster said not ALL of 'em in the same game. I've played quite a few MMORPGs starting with EverQuest and working through many of those that followed and TR has managed to keep my attention at least at a 'casual play' level, but that's all I have time for these days...my hardcore gaming days are behind me.
It's not the most groundbreaking gaming experience you'll ever have, especially if you don't have the machine to run at a higher level of graphics. But it's a game that is fun to play and can only get better as they have time to add content. Feel free to vote with your feet, just leaves more mobs for me to shoot
The weapons I thought were pretty cool, but I am seeing that no specific weapon is better then another. In the end, i can kill the mobs with whatever I have on me.
After playing just the first 8 levels I'm already finding you to be completely incorrect. You need atleast 2 types of weapons to be effective in every situation.
The solo content is amazing - I ran around for 4 hours and although once or twice I thought "I'll come back in a bit caus these are red to me" I never felt obligated to group.

Seems like most new MMOs are just trying to copy WoW atm. They see something that works very well and rakes in customers, so they think it's a good idea to copy it. Except it isn't and now we have piles of failed MMOs :P Most people are holding off until AoC, which looks like more than just another wow clone.
It seems that WOW was your first mmo then? WOW is no way original and copies off mmos before it. SO how can you say that everything after WOW is a clone.?
I was so looking forward to this game. I purchased the full retail version. But in the end I became very bored with it quickly. I just don't feel it has enough going on to keep me interested. Just the same old quests and missions, Run here, talk to so and so, run back here, kill this, pick up that and back to the quest giver again. Nothing new here. The weapons I thought were pretty cool, but I am seeing that no specific weapon is better then another. In the end, i can kill the mobs with whatever I have on me. Just bored, I am sure the game will get better in the future, they always do. And too all those silly folks bashing WOW all the time, remember, you loved it when it came out, that's whey you have a lvl 70 Warlock.
Change your playstyle, maybe then you could enjoy TR aswell.
The missions are NOT the same, they have different TEXT, but i geuss the new gen type of player does not border to actualy read hte missions/storylines, the new gen type of player does not want to get involved with a game, they seem only to worry about "whats the quickest way to max lvl"
And the "you can kill whatever what you have on you" is what i mean with change your playstyle, don't be a sheep and just pick whats the best but try and put some effort into it and try to challenge yourself.
And being bored has NOTHING to do with the game it's indiviuals that because of hte way they play a game they get bored, they do not even realize that when someone say's he/she is bored that it actualy means they have nothing better in live, yes i said it as that is my opinion when i see newbs saying they are bored. Another reason why someone gets bored would be because they simply are burned out by the genre. Or it could be that because of the shallow playstyle they have they can get bored aswell.
Seriusly if someone gets bored with a game then just be mature and leave that game, do something else, play another game or better yet try something away from hte computer.....oh i'm sure that now i will get reply's about people saying they have enough going in rl, if so ask yourself how can someone that would have enough going for them come to a forum to say they bored, sorry it seems just to be a fashionstatement but made without anythought what it really means when someone tells others they are bored.
Theres just so much wrong with what you said.

Or do you have such a hard time understanding that people like me SHARE OPINION which does nto have to be fact........again please read things as being opinions, which would make forums a much better place to discuss. I won't try to argue points with the OP because they stated their OWN point of view. Its 100% correct in regards to them and how they feel.
Does it describe my point of view? No. However, games are subjective..
My point of view is.. I haven't felt any of the things that the OP describes. I actually spend most of my day lmao... becuase I have fun and the game is entertaining to me...
Also.. no sorry I don't have a level 70 Warlock in WoW.
I do have a level 60 Warlock that I played at release... back when they were considered gimp and there was 3 on my server over 10-20... I was the second person to get the Felhunter pet..
Of course I was 60 before my 30 days were up.. and I never played it again. When Warlocks became so fotm.. never felt like playing it again... ever. Sure I play WoW now and then but I got so bored with the quests.. dunno I'm having so much fun in TR..
So that's two points of view.. which are 100% from our own side..
Of course I didn't buy TR for a long term game. I was in beta and it reminded in many ways of Auto Assualt... dunno that I could pass on why in a manner anyone would understand.
I bought TR to pass 4 months... and if its fun for 4 months.. it was well worth the money to me.
Sorry you didn't like the game.. and good luck on finding something you do.
(There are some annoying bugs in TR I'll admit but overall I still laugh everytime I play it).

I perfectly understand what I said. I have no problem coming to a forum and reading varying opinions. By your own comments it appears like you take issue with those that don't post positive statements or glowing reviews. If the OP was bored with this game, then thats his opinion. Ya well if anybody had the fucking brains to come up with some content other than grinding levels I wouldn't be so concerned about grinding levels.
Every MMO besides UO has felt like this big pain in the ass between me and what I really wanted to do in the game.

He used the F word...do you need anymore proof?
TR is a huge level grind fest made as a cookie-cut level based MMO, its a copy cat of a core system thats been around for years, nothing new except the way you GRIND.
cookie-cut level based MMO's lack brains, any developer that makes these cookie-cut level based MMO do lack brains.
Anyone can copy cat what was done in the past VERY FEW can make something new!

Care to name an MMO that isn't? Eve maybe but getting levels just for having an account isn't a system I would like to see become widespread. In my experiencethere is less grinding in TR than any other MMO I've played. cookie-cut level based MMO's lack brains, any developer that makes these cookie-cut level based MMO do lack brains. I think I agree with you but what's it got to do with TR? Anyone can copy cat what was done in the past VERY FEW can make something new! I think I agree with this also but what's it got to do with TR? If you're saying TR is a copycat game then please advise what it copied I think I would like to play that too. TR = Fail Trolling a forum for a game you don't like = sad
The grind in TR is indeed shorter than any other MMORPG, except the content depth comes up short as well.
Grinding your puppet all the way 50 has no reward, and if you want to try another class, you have to start at 30 minimum or even from null (if you didn't have the foresight to clone at the benchmarks). Those last 20 levels after 30 really make it feel even more like a grind, since there's nothing new to look forward to except more levels.
Objectively, the grind is shorter. Subjectively, the grind is the worst.
EDIT ::
I don't really care if TR is a copy-cat or not, I was personally looking forward to a sci-fi MMORPG that wasn't EVE or Anarchy Online. What I got was... well, it just wasn't what I expected. It feels like there's no real goal to achieve, and thus no point for me to play.
Comments
The Eve cloning is only to preserve your character from losing skill points if you get pod-killed.
The Eve jump-cloning is only for instantaneous TRAVEL across large distances.
The TR cloning system is totally different as it allows you to create NEW characters and have those characters head down different skill trees or skill allocation choices.
Totally different implementations of "cloning"
Saw a couple of comments mentioning this in comparison to Anarchy Online and citing better graphics as one reason they tried TR as an alternative Sci-Fi MMO (does anyone even count SWG anymore?). FYI, Funcom just released a new video demoing their upcoming graphics engine overhaul for AO later this year:
http://mmorpg.com/discussion2.cfm/thread/163799
Download the 40mb file, burn it to DVD, and play it on a big screen.
Not calling the graphics better, but for code still in alpha it's looking awfully sweet.

I totally forgot about that animation. Wish i took some screenies of it now. But then again in the beta there was also a stage where we couldnt even swim and just ran on the water as well.
Tabula Rasa has great combat system. And thats it, period. Nothing more...nothing at all.
I purchased retail verision , played 20 days , uninstalled. Nothing ...
IMO TR is running very fast trying to catch up with Auto Assault - yet another "revolutionary" MMORPG by NCSoft that went down the tubes unusually fast.
dream on
I kind of agree.
I really want it to be my choice if I run in a group, not be forced to and it seems that you are asking for the content to be made harder so as to require grouping, I fundamentally disagree that that is a good direction for TR to take.
just my $0.02
Strange, but I've done a LOT of grouping throughout my TR careers.

It seems that WOW was your first mmo then? WOW is no way original and copies off mmos before it. SO how can you say that everything after WOW is a clone.?

I've never understood why people like you complain about others...complaining about mmo's here. If you have a beef (or compliment) about mmo's, this is the place to do it, right?

Try and repeat what i outlined red, then THINK again before you respond next time ....please....
Or do you have such a hard time understanding that people like me SHARE OPINION which does nto have to be fact........again please read things as being opinions, which would make forums a much better place to discuss. As you clearly show you have a beef with people stating their opinion, i was merly sharing my opinion in this discussion, but i geuss you fairly new to forums to understand this, else you would not have resaponded the way you did. Been playing this and been having a ton of fun.

He was able to give supporting statements to his position so its not like he just came here and said "This game sucks, its so boring".

Ya well if anybody had the fucking brains to come up with some content other than grinding levels I wouldn't be so concerned about grinding levels.Every MMO besides UO has felt like this big pain in the ass between me and what I really wanted to do in the game.

PM me when an MMO as good as UO was comes out.
And please explain what is it you really want to do in these type of games?
" Ya well if anybody had the fucking brains to come up with some content other than grinding levels I wouldn't be so concerned about grinding levels.
Every MMO besides UO has felt like this big pain in the ass between me and what I really wanted to do in the game."
He used the F word...do you need anymore proof?
That Guild Wars 2 login screen knocked up my wife. Must be the second coming!
TR = Fail
EDIT ::
I don't really care if TR is a copy-cat or not, I was personally looking forward to a sci-fi MMORPG that wasn't EVE or Anarchy Online. What I got was... well, it just wasn't what I expected. It feels like there's no real goal to achieve, and thus no point for me to play.
