i am totally kicking myself for even considering a reply to this dismal attempt at a troll thread... but, it is very clear you have absolutely no idea what WAR is or based on and cookie-cut could not be further from the truth.
Maybe it is level based but so what, this game revolves around player driven conflict, not some mindless PVE grind.
Course, if they decide to charge 20 a month for it i will just find another mmo with a more reasonable monthly price.
Perhaps in some ways you are correct, (it certainly is level based), though I challenge your assertion that a game with a level 40 cap is a grind fest. Play L2 if you really want to learn the true meaning of the word grind.
But what makes WAR a bit different is the fact it is designed from the ground up with PVP and the overall RVR war effort as part of its core gameplay. Even DAOC didn't take it to this extreme, so WAR will be quite a bit different from it in terms of how players level up and battle each other.
Even the PVE activities contribute to the overall War effort, which I think few games have pulled off (at least in recent years)
Yeah, the game will have orcs, elves, dwarves with pre-defined classes, but the spin this time around is a bit different. It doesn't appear there will be a need for the holy triad (tank, healer, DPS) but in fact, healers will need to actively fight to be truly effective. As a long time healer player, I welcome the change. (Tired of always standing in the back row)
Sure, there's lots of ideas borrowed from other successful games, but that is only sensible when investing this sort of money. Major risk taking is not recommended when playing with other folks cash.
Now, the real question is, will it all work, and will the game be fun to play? Well, we'll have to wait until the game is released to find out.
OP, sounds like what you want is Darkfall. Good luck with that one ever coming out. For now I'll be willing to give WAR (and some others) a try to see if they are any fun before I pass judgement.

Great post, but my anger comes from the fact that they plan to charge more than 14.95 monthly subs, yet there is no innovation! nothing new!
You pretty much described all MMO's in exsistance including Age of Conan, EVE, & Guild Wars.
What else should a MMO have or not Have? Should it be like UO where it was either Craft or go Kill? Sounds like a Bore feista and not worth money to me if it doesn't offer content. I'm not about to shell out 50 dollars for any game that doesnt have content. Or maybe you want it to be Second Life where you use real money for everything & have to deal with crazy lawlessness & perverts? Second Life despite it being listed here isn't even a game.
Honestly if your going to Troll and try to hide it atleast use some common sense. Games are Games because they offer CONTENT. You don't buy a game so you can sit n watch a movie.
BTW They haven't OFFICIALLY set any price. So your Hatred is pretty much void. IF you bothered to dig into the issue and were familiar with MMOs in general you'd see its COMMON pratice to Research ALL options when it comes to pricing. But its VERY rare that any company goes outside the bounds of the standard monthly price. Its happened maybe twice in MMOs entire lifespan. Not to mention the devs already said they don't want to pilfer and treate their customers like walking wallets thus lowering the chances it'll go over 14.95.

True facts. But it is important to understand HOW you achieve these goals, like quests etc. This "HOW" differs fun games from boring grindfests. EAMythic, in my opinion, has excellent ideas for making the game fun.
But I'm aware that you are so ignorant to conclude about a game before making a bit of research. If you don't like these types of games which have quests, levels and abilities which you must "press", at least give constructive ideas how to avoid them and make good MMORPG.
If you look at anything in broad enough strokes, of course it will look the same. Every MMORPG is going to have common elements - that is what defines a genre.
Just because there are quests, levels, and whatever else you are complaining about, does not mean there exists no innovation or differences. It is all about the execution.
All in all, a fairly useless topic. It does not even attempt to explain what qualifies as innovative, probably because the OP did not think that far. It is easy to want innovation, but try coming up with some... it is not easy.

Please enlighten the world with your innovative ideas of how your going to make a role playing game (Level based 90% of the time, 100% of the time if you only count successfull ones) without giving your player base something to work for. Do you have any asnwers or are you just bickering? Do you drive a gasoline powered vehicle?
Lets be really innovative here a moment. OK instead of lvl based lets not lvl at all, instead let us allow every single player to have the EXACT same stats, so that they don't even come into play. Yea, and any new player can just pop up and gank the player who's been having fun on our servers for years! YEA YEA, and then, instead of taking over an enemy base, lets make the objective be "The first person who can find the magical shoes can start the tap dancing contest", and once that happens there will be a giant race to see who can /dance the longest...
Point being, what your asking for isn't an MMORPG, which brings the question "Are you so bored and pathetic within your own life that you've nothing better to do that try and bring down the people who are attempting to bring entertainment to the masses?". Get real, a game that isn't lvl based, has no quests to attain items or gear, doesn't require you to run to X location (Exploring the map) and doesn't allow you to talk to NPC's in order to advance the story line is called an FPS, RTS, Racing game, ect. Before you had to have the quest already before kills counted for them. in WAR this not true. FACT: level based How many games in recent history haven't been level-based? Ultima Online and.. a game that is soon to be vaporware. FACT: Quests to attain new level, items, gear ..etc. All MMO's have this. Even Ultima Online had quests, and it was 100% skill based. FACT: run to location x to find y item and return to location x Instead of focusing on the idea of the quest, focus on the content and immersion of the quest. Focus on the quest types that WAR has that no other MMO has ever had. FACT: Talk with NPC A for a quest before you can proceed to NPC B I think we've talked about this, where WAR is the first game to have an auto task tracker, so if you have already killed 10 bears or collected 10 jewels, the NPC gives you the reward instead of making you do it all over again. If you're referring to a "Quest Line".. than, well, I still don't see your point. FACT: press either left or right mouse button and/or number keys 1-0 along shift or cntrl key in order to perform an action I'm surprised no one has jumped all over this. Exactly how would you propose that you move your character around? Delete to move up, B to move down, R to move left and Num Lock to move right? Seriously guy, would you have EA create a hand held controller with a wii stick so you can hack and slash your silly behind all over the room? Should all games be shipped with blindfolds so we can all see what real skill is? What exactly were you thinking when you typed this 'Fact'? FACT: Player Vs Player or Realm Vs Realm What do you mean 'OR'. Name another game that has meaningful, purposeful, pride-driven RvR.. and name one besides Dark Age of Camelot. So.. you couldn't do it could you? Mythic made that game. Mythic is also making WAR. ...im sorry how is this not cookie-cut? and they want me/us to PAY more than the standard 14.95 ...pfft like i said cookie-cut level based MMO nothing new!
I could waste my time telling you all the new things that WAR has that no other game has offered. But will I really change your opinion? Trolls lack the intelligence to be swayed.
Op you can level 1-40 by only engaging in pvp if you wish so you can reach max level simply by killing other players. No Questing Required.
the Only thing cookie cutter I see is a troll that couldn't be bothered to find out actual game details yet took the time to bother ranting about the games sub price when nobody even knows how much it will be per month.
Its the year 2008 and the best they can come up with is a cookie-cut level based grind fest, i guess we really lack talented programmers!

It's cookie cutter, but a lot of people are hanging there hopes on this one as the WOW killer...you know...like they did with Vanguard.
With all the cookie cutters being released, the best we can hope for is a good cookie cutter.
You forget that for months leading up to Vanguard's release there were massive leaks of how bad it was, the problems with the game, and how dev's were't doing anything about it. Not to mention all the public chaos everyone got to witness as the company began to go up in flames before the game even launched. Mythic has not had any of these massive problems or drama.
Oh and most people who are excited & waiting for WAR could care less what happens with WoW. Infact many of us hope WoW's main population stays there since we don't want to play with alot of them anyway. Trolls and flame baiters are the ones who start the whole WoW is gonna die, lets kill wow with this game fights.
Don't fool yourselves...every game whether MMO or Single player is essentially a 'cookie cutter' there was always something before it using a similiar model. MMOs wouldn't be MMOs if you wiped out all the features that the OP listed...Hell even UO would be cookie cutter if you went by half of what he listed.
The OP is a Troll and people who call games especially MMOs cookie cutter often dont know the history of games or software in general. Basic design needs a good model to go by, what you do with it is what makes or breaks games not 'omg it has classes & pvp its so cookie cutter'.
Please Refer to Doom Cat with all conspiracies & evil corporation complaints. He'll give you the simple explination of..WE"RE ALL DOOMED!
While I'm sure a lot of us agree with you about the lack of innovation in todays MMO's, the truth is that when a game tries something new it often gets rejected by the player base. Also developers are afraid to use their time developing ideas not sure how they will work out in the end, or how long it will take to make things work. If we look at Vanguard, the single most important reason why it failed was because it was trying new things. The developers simply didn't have the skills to implement them and in the end they just ended with a mess in their hands.
It's much easier to do what WoW did and improve on previous games, while implementing one or two new ideas, than to try and reinvent the wheel. Also it creates familiarity with players, ie reasons why a lot of games are using UI so similar to WoW, or WAR is using similar graphics to WoW. Unlike what you might hear on these forums, these similarities will be a big boost to WAR since players will have a basic idea of what to expect.
Just going to point out your flaw here...WAR is not using similar graphics to WOW because people like it. Its using the art style that Warhammer has had since the Beginning back in 1983, not to mention its far grittier than the cartoon land of WoW (which is following their style from the Warcraft games, which was a copy from the Warhammer games in the first place).
WoW is not popular because of its graphics IMHO, its popular because its engine offers low resolution capability that doesn't look like utter crap and quite frankly its popular because its a Blizzard GAme. Blizzard's massive fanbase bought into WoW before it was even released and those people certaintly won't go to far from Blizz.

I don't want to throw myself into the whole Warhammer vs. Warcraft debate. I only want to confirm, Warhammer as an IP, it's art styling and charecter design, predates not only Warcraft, but probably Blizzard as a company.

Mythic is also making WAR.
...im sorry how is this not cookie-cut? and they want me/us to PAY more than the standard 14.95
...pfft like i said cookie-cut level based MMO nothing new!
I could waste my time telling you all the new things that WAR has that no other game has offered. But will I really change your opinion? Trolls lack the intelligence to be swayed.
To OP:
Why don’t you play a first person shooter, that’s what I’m doing? Or is the one I’m playing a cookie cutter FPS, it probably is. I guess I suck.
ppl like him are the one who will be waiting to log on the first minute WAR opens lol.
It's cookie cutter, but a lot of people are hanging there hopes on this one as the WOW killer...you know...like they did with Vanguard.
With all the cookie cutters being released, the best we can hope for is a good cookie cutter.
Yes.
If MMO developers had been in charge of developing the car from the model T ford, we would have had the T-Ford in 2008, but with awesome paintjobs and chromed wheels.
MMO developers do what they do best, make the same old with just a upgrade to the paintjob.
Oooh...bad analogy, automobiles haven't changed all that much in the past 50 years. Sure, a few more bells and whistles, but they are pretty much the same thing my grandparents first started driving.

I don't care what you call it, I'm still going to give it a trial.
Who the hell are you, and why should I care?
