IMO AOC got pushed back because they could "afford" the delay to clean up bugs and polish the game. Lets not forget they got something like 30million$$ not too long ago. Thats a big cash infusion. So, unlike other games, (TR and VG come to mind) they don't have to release prior to being prepared in order to get funds in. I am willing to wait for a better more stable game.
if I had a different game to play I'd agree
but since im competely bored, naturally im impatient
Just when you think you have all the answers, I change the questions.
I think those of you stressing the importance of the WoW addon-on's direct influence on AoC sales is correct. If it's too close to WoW release all MMO's will hurt. We might not like it, but that's how the market is anno 2008. This goes for WAR just as much as AoC.
However, if people are anything like me they will get bored of it - just like I was with tBC - in a couple of weeks. I bought the Burning Crusade and played it for a whole 2 weeks before I realized it was a case of same shit in the same wrapping. Then again I guess I'm not like like people. Supposedly WoW passed the 10 mill subs mark a few days ago.
I sincerely doubt what wow's update will influence any other game's success. In my personal experience wow players are distinguished in 2 categories: people who like wow ALOT and people who play wow because there is nothing else as "good" out on the market atm.
People beloging in the 2nd category will probably quit wow anyway, whilst people from the 1st category mostly have had no other mmo experience, prefer solo play and unless any game sweeps the earth under their feet they will return to wow anyway when the lich king is launched.
Lets just hope the 2008 games turn out good enough to satisfy all those of us who are looking for something better than wow
