I was wanting to do a survey and see what kind of new MMO gamers want. Any ideas that you think would make a great game? I'm interested in knowing your opinions. Please share any and all ideas you may have!
1. Choice.
That's it. Choice.
Any game that JUST has one way of doing things will not do well.
The way to do this? Different server rule sets. Here's the list I'd like to see
1. Standard servers - Casual friendly, solo friendly, consensual PvP, forgiving Raiding (like WoW standard server but with more forgiving Raiding)
2. Challenge servers - More "hardcore" oriented with things like XP loss, more group oriented (not forced grouping per say but much more reason/need to group because of increased difficulty), still casual PvP, Raiding more typical of what we see in games like WoW, which is quite Hardcore raiding
3. PvP servers - Same as standard servers, but add in faction based PvP, PvP control of towns/cities/resources
4. Challenge PvP servers - Like PvP server but also add a FFA element, add some item loss, perhaps even friendly fire
5. Role playing versions of 1-4 that DO NOT have global chat channels. No general chat, no trade chat, no Local defense chat, etc. Only Guild chat channels, but Guilds can choose to disable them if they wish.
As for skill vs. class or level etc. etc. etc. that stuff is way too personal for people to debate rationally on the forums.
Giving players their choice of server rule sets is the BEST way to please everyone with the same game.
