how can DF succeed anymore?

28days28days Member Posts: 213

Even though the devs can't admit it.. .. I'am sure they know it's true... and if not they're going to be in for a rude awakening if they ever do get this thing out the door.

It definitely missed it's window for release or more importantly (releasing and becoming a success) by a few years now. The chance it had to really be something passed when 2006 came and went. Now it will have zero unique features except for FFA and full looting and that will attract zero customers except for pk's and thieves who want to sit around ganking everybody for shits and giggles.

They put it off way too long and Warhammer, AoC and the new WoW expansion that focuses more on PvP , sieges will scoop up all the customers from 2008 onward for many long years to come.

    Totally agree..

They really blew it by not releasing any time years ago!

    OMG !!!

You are so right i mean how can any company stand up to your all knowing and sage advice ?

I am sure you are a multi-billionaire ,  i am so honored by the fact that you took the time to let us all know that DarkFall is over because you decided that.

There are probably just enough people loyal to the Cult of the Sandbox to keep the game afloat.  It will not be a big success, but it might be enough to pay the bills.

But I feel sorry for whoever is paying for the development.  It will be a VERY long time before that investment earns out.

If Darkfall does get released, i can only imagine what the forums will be like on this site, and Darkfalls. I can already see 5 post's now starting off with , "OMG$#% .............. ".

Darkfall is a black hole money pit.

Did you know some investor already lost money because of Darkfall years back?

As early as mid-December, 2002, Razorwax had closed a deal with a Greek publisher that we would all later know as Aventurine. Within months, and by February 2003, Razorwax had cut its ties with Intermedia Invest and planned on moving its locale to Greece. Trond Heier had a few choice words to say of the exchange, wishing Razorwax well in their endeavors, and lamenting only slightly the 3 million kronor loss he accrued from the investment in an interview with VG.no

Um, your example says the investor that lost cash actually wished them well. It kinda strange, isn't it ?

No it isn't strange. Maybe the guy was glad to be rid of it and didn't care anymore.  So he wished them well and cut his losses.

The fact remains he lost money because of it.  While they just up and left and moved on to the next sucker they found to "fund" their pipe dream.

So if you lost 3 million, you would just say; oh well, good luck then. No you wouldn't, you would sue their a**es. Money is gained and lost all the time in business. Venture fund owners know this. No big deal really.

I doubt any fanboys are interested in learning from history, but I just want to point out that there are some striking parallels among the development sagas of Darkfall, Vanguard, and Horizons.

Actually, I disagree. I think DF has set a totally new standard never seen before by other games in development.  Never has promises of beta been made so early and then held back for  so long.  Never has a team been so secretive in their development.  Never has anyone attempted to string the public along like DF has.

I don't care for it, but hey, they didn't ask for my opinion.  They are doing things their way for whatever reason, and who knows what we'll see from them.

I'm still expecting a death ray that they'll use to help Greece take over the world.

When DF comes out, it will be a huge hit.

To OP. Those unigue features from WAR and AoC originated from DF, and if you think it will attract zero customers than you must be a WoW pansy.

You think WoW will scoop up the customers? AHAHAHA. No it won't, it will scoop ujp even more Carebears than it already has right now. On the other hand there are a bunch of x-WoW players crossing over to DF, wanting more than carebear features that WoW has.

    Damn Pansy Carebears.

Did i miss something? When the hell did AoC and WAR become a something that will threat DF? They have nothing except well known names. Im more concerned how AoC and WAR will survival WoW?

I mean, lets say DF is released (lol) and you play AoC. What would be the feature that would keep you in AoC? Personally, i cant come to think of a single one.

And you dont seen to understand that there are players that not like linear and static MMOs. Im forced to pretend to be interested in them because there is nothing else. But even if i get  AoC, WAR, TCoS, Hello Kitty Online and Aion.......i will stop playing them if any good sanbox MMO is released.

Don't you have to have a game before you can be threatened?

AoC and WAR have THE MOST IMPORTANT thing. They have an actual game. AoC and WAR will both release this year. Darkfall (Deadfall?) will.... remain vapour.

Arguing about DF features is like arguing which is more real, the tooth fairy or santa claus.

  • daarcodaarco Member UncommonPosts: 4,276

Santa claus died from old age the tooth fairy is doing jail time right now.

And im tired of hearing that AoC and WAR will be something revolutionary and amazing. Its just the same old WoW clone over and over gain. Its weird, when we talk about all asian wow clones....then all agree its a wow clone......but if a new EU or US MMO is released....then its suddently something amazing.

For LOTRO the devs  atleast said it would be a wow clone.

So he should of sued? shouldn't have?  No big deal really?  Which is it?

Kind of contradicting yourself aren't you?  That typically happens when you're out of ways to fabricate excuses..

If I had many many millions then yes I would cut my losses.. Like you said , people lose money in business all the time..  but that's not really any kind of excuse for the fact that he lost because of DF...

Seriously , don't you ever get tired of coming up with excuses 24/7 for this pipe dream?  You're like the official DF excuse machine now that that Questionable guy seems to have moved on.

You should really try to step outside of yourself and take a look at the shit you post defending this thing constantly when the known reality of it paints a complete picture of failure.

  • DarthRaidenDarthRaiden Member UncommonPosts: 4,333

As for the features DF has to offer i disagree with OP, ift hey will be implemented and make it  to final DF will be  years ahead before other MMO's, cause many of them going backwards and  degrade their potential like $OE did with NGE and others  are classes/levels  quest loot rinse and repeat crap with few if any innovations.

    -----MY-TERMS-OF-USE--------------------------------------------------
$OE - eternal enemy of online gaming
-We finally WON !!!! 2011 $OE accepted that they have been fired 2005 by the playerbase and closed down ridiculous NGE !!

"There was suppression of speech and all kinds of things between disturbing and fascistic." Raph Koster (parted $OE)

  • If its a stable game people will play it.  I'd play it to see how it is, sounds like a great game.  Hope it does get released this year or at least start some type of beta.

I do hope English is not your first language or you have not finished school yet because your reading comprehension is very poor, let me help you understand.

"Trond Heier had a few choice words to say of the exchange,"

This is a euphemism, he's not happy.

"wishing Razorwax well in their endeavors,"

This is a sarcastic remark,he's not happy.

    "and lamenting"

    Lamenting means he's not happy.

    "only slightly"

Another sarcastic remark meaning he's not happy.

"the 3 million kronor loss he accrued from the investment in an interview with VG.no"

He lost his money obviously he's not happy its comman sense.

Of course there’s always the possibility that you did read and comprehend all this but in your desperation to defend this game and its developers your ignored it or are in denial.

I wonder if or when they run out of money they might desert Aventurine and move to another country again.

DF can succeed as long as it is "still"  on track to be beta tested ...this YEAR!

That Guild Wars 2 login screen knocked up my wife. Must be the second coming!
