I think you misunderstood me. Yes i believe SWG has new players going into the game, some but not many.  I was refering more to the influx that some keep posting boldfuly about. All you need to do is go the the offical forums and browse the galaxy pages. It doesn't take much to see that the people that are on the low and very low populated servers are transfering to the 3 or 4 populated ones in large numbers.

So this influx would give someone on a more populated server a skewed sense that the game is growing and infact not dieing. I keep reading about how at times on the populated servers there was 100 people logged in on whatever day at peak times and Mos Eisley's cantina had 30 people. These numbers to me are horrible and shows how empty the game really is.

LIke i have said many times before, i don't look down on someone like yourself who is a new player to SWG. I hope it is everything you ever wanted in an MMO. I will however tell you that there was a golden age for SWG in regards to gameplay and population, and what you are playing now is not even a C league copy of how it use to be.

Sorry i misunderstood your post or rather i misread it. I see what you mean now. I really do wish i could have been part of what swg was! i really mean that. i wish i could feel part of the grand sceme you were ll involved in. at the moment there is nothing else for me to play so i play swg! i do enjoy it but still it pales against origanal EQ. If ever a game comes out close to what you all had i hope you ll come back and shout loudly so that us players that missed that experience can pop along and try it out with you.

    it's under 7k players now.

look for shutdown news or a pre-cu rollback by the spring.

7k? would this be your "friend" who told you that - perhaps you should notify MMORPG.com heads and tell them to make an announcement - that your firend has the real numbers for SWG subs and that coincidently, they are just the sort of low numbers people like you wish were true.

You are fooling no one - not even the vets who hate the game as it is.

  • All that you need as proof that SWG is dying is read the forums.  The complaints about low populations and cries for server merges dominate the conversation now.

That cry is even louder than rollback cries.  Mostly because those of us hoping for a rollback/classic, or a change in direction in development back towards pre NGE have left.  The fanbois who remain are realizing that it's very "ronrey" out there.

Great description btw. My hat off to whoever wrote that.
Its just perfect description for a dead game. How would you want to even start playing when you read that? former and current players are disgruntled. To me that description makes me think of old men sitting around talking about how they worked for 29 yrs, but then got fired and never got a pention. Old, angry disgruntled players talking about the time they wasted and will never get back.
Id compare SWG and Matrix:online to Ryan Leaf....looked great at first, but left you dissapointed and with a bad taste in your mouth.

Yeah, she is dead, but not buried, yet.  It is not being promoted or produced.  They existing systems are all that will remain until the contract is up.  The NEW MMO and TV show will be around soon enough.  And SOE will have to find some way to be competitive in the industry.

If there is indeed a new SW game to coincide with the movie and series, SWG is going to lose more players.

Where in that link does it say there's a new SW game coming?  I couldn't find it.  All I saw was news about an upcoming star wars cartoon.

I haven't even looked at that link but if it has anything to do with any movie/T.V.series then you know there is going to be a tie-in with a game somewhere. It would be in keeping with LA's style. And honestly who could blame them as it would be a terrible waste of an opportunity.

It's simply a question of whether it would be an MMO or not.

But dont forget i am a new player and didn't play the game pre whatever. so no friend i'm not nuts just not pre nge either :)
To me i dont want people standing all over each other looking like they are joined up. 30 in one place is quite enough thank you lol.
But being honest as a new player, the game doesn't seem dead but it does seem difficult for new players to find friends :) also for the people saying it's been turned into a wow clone, are you kidding? this is more like old everquest in the fact that if you dont follow the linear quests which may i add is your own choice, then it's a good old fashioned grind game. and i dont mean that in the same old swear word most of you do, to me grinding was a good thing if you enjoy the area's you grind in :)

First off. Your new to the game, your enjoying it,you think that 30 ppl in that cantina is a lot. GREAT.

If you like it  then by all means keep playing and enjoy.

I remember being in the Kandahar(sp) cantina on Naboo when there were usually 8-15 entertainers.live ones not afk,and somewhere around 20-40 other players. All the time ?..no.Primetime  weekends usually.

Weekdays in the evenings usually 3-6 live entertainers and probably  10-15 others.

Theed i usually  avoided the cantina, because of the lag. It was not unuaual for there to be 80+ people there.

    This was on Naboo

The last time i logged in and went to Naboo, several months ago,I actually spent 4 hours travling around to all the cities, and saw 17 people...17..on a friday evening starting at 7pm .there were none in or around Kandahar..5 in the Theed cantina,3 afk.

So..to people that say that severs are "well populated"..Umm..compared to WHAT ?? 5am on a Tuesday morning pre-cu..not even then..

But this was just my observation.

As I said at the start of my reply..If your playing now and having fun, good for you, have fun.

    Edit..This was on Lowca.

In the old days I used to go to Coronet with enough buff packs to do 200 buffs at a sitting, and no matter what time of day or night, or what time of the week, I would ALWAYS have a line and ALWAYS sell them out. The other docs there, the same.

Entire hunting groups (of 20 back in the day) offered themselves for hire every night, to harvest to good creature resources when they spawned. 150-200 vs 150-200 running PvP battles were common between Bestine and AH happened all the time and ran for hours, and after the cantinas would be packed with people telling stories and burning BF. And I played on a smaller server.

That's what we used to have. I find it impossible to not laugh, when people get on the boards and say "This game isn't dead, we had 30 people in the cantina" or "Had some great PvP in Restuss, 20 on a side!! This server has a great population!!"

    Sad really.

This game is toast, $OE is already looking ahead to its next releases, SWG has been written off as a lesson learned and is firmly in the rear view mirror. $OE will not spend the money revamping a game (again) for a game with such a small player base, when they can put their time and energy into the next scam (item selling?).

Just can't figure why they don't put up a couple of classic servers, we all know they are greedy enough, and could probably triple their subs doing that.

No one ever accused $OE of being smart, however.

Where do you all get this information from? i would love a new star wars mmorg to come out, but so fr even if i search every coner of the internet i can't find this magical game your all relying on. and if thisgame is dead then i hope it stays dead because i'm having fun at the moment with it and enjoying it. Yay for dead games haha. it reminds me so much of VG, people saying it's got months left and yet look at it the last few months...it's actualy growing. and most of the new players have tried it due to this site and all the bad press it got....so many people thought " ok i just gotta see if it's as bad as they say" then ended up coming on and saying that i's not as bad as they heard.

What's to say they won't tie it in with SWG? ;)  Episode I - III were tied into it and it was recently revealed that LA have approved SOE's request to create portions of planets that don't currently exist in the game for future Heroic Encounters.

Possible, but doubtfull in my opinion.

Remember how RotW was released in co-ordination with that last crappy movie, and there was a strong marketing push (i.e. commercials). SWG didn't exactly bloom in population, so I'm thinking that after 5 years+ it's probably best to use the release of a new animated series and a live action T.V. series (assuming that it's still being produced) for a whole new game. The marketing blitz didn't work the last time so why spend so much money marketing it again.

I think the industry is ripe for a new SW game (perhaps even an MMO), and that would only make sense to have it come out with a new era of T.V. series. I know that I would certainly want to capitalize on the exposure that all of this will create, and I think I'd want to capitalize on it with something fresh and exciting.

I just can't imagine them wasting this opportunity. But that's also not to say they may try to work something into SWG as well. They may very well use it as an opportunity for both SWG and a new game.

I'm not saying SWG would be their only way they tie games into the new series/movie...SWG certainly wasn't the only game they promoted with Episode I, II & III, there was of course Battlefront I & II and a bunch of various console games to go along with it.

Heh, I wouldn't be too surprised if Geonisis became a future Heroic.. Edit:  infact, there's already a story they could use to tie both in, http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/First_Battle_of_Geonosis_%28Galactic_Civil_War%29

Does anybody remember way back when I think it was Nancy McIntyre mentioned something about an SWG2?

Would it be that far fetched to think there might be something to those rumors of another SW MMO? The setting is certainly being setup with a new T.V. series. SWG was certainly never the blockbuster it was expected to be, so why not release another MMO?

It would also make sense that SOE is pushing the development of SWG so hard. It's possible they know there will be competition and they want to be sure they have their house in order before hand.

I swear it feels like the planets are aligning for this. I for one am starting to become a believer of the rumors.

I think yes, it would be too far-fetched to suddenly release it out of the blue in the next 8 months.

If there was to be a new MMO, why would LA sign away potential content for this new MMO to SWG instead?  It seems to backup their statement that they have no current plans for a successor to SWG.

Well, as I said in the vet forum (lol we seem to have 2 discussions about this at the same time) the live action series is due in '09.

I agree it's too late for the animated series.

But maybe we're thinking about this all wrong. What if it was SOE developing a new SW MMO? It would likely be an RMT, and when did we get the official announcement of the Agency? I believe it was approximately 1 year before it's expected release.

So, if the live action series is expected to start in the fall of '09 it would be likely they would announce it in the fall of '08.

In the article you mentioned earlier with Nancy, she did mention the next Star Wars MMO would be based on something like SOE's RMT plans (specifically mentioning SOE).

Well allow me to add a few things in...

It's much to late to do an animated Clone Wars movie, however the new Cartoon doesn't look all that bad. Really I did enjoy the Clone Wars cartoons but that's just me. I just hope to god the new animated show doesn't turn into Ewoks/Droids 2.0 for the most part...

Now as for SOE developing a new Star Wars MMO.... Well as much as I'm a 'fanboi' or whatever insult the Vets are calling those of us who do enjoy the game. I think there are just a few things that would hold LA back from letting SOE at the new one...

For one, yeah SWG has to be taken into account... Remember SWG before it came out had tons of people believing it would be the first U.S. MMORPG to hit a Million Players. The only game before that was Lineage 1, oversea's at that too... Still in terms of SOE doing Star Wars, they just haven't been that good at it. That could be something to hold LA back from letting them do it.

Number two, and one most if not all of you will down right hate hearing... The Console market...

As of now the Console Market is making a killing. The Wii is beloved by almost everybody. The Xbox 360 has really done a great job, and then we have the PS3...

Now as much as people tell me "omg the PS3 is going to come back this year and kill Nintendo and Microsoft!!!" Maybe in sales of systems, now that it's dropping from it's starting price of $599 U.S. Dollars (by the way, look up Sony's E3 Video from 2006 if you ever want a laugh.) To about $400 and rumors of it dropping again this year... Still in terms of an 'installed user base' the PS3 is lacking. And I believe the numbers for some of the bigger games like Call of Duty 4, had the 360 winning 3 to 1.

Still, I get the feeling some MMO makers are looking at the console market right now. Final Fantasy 11 has done somewhat well on it. Age of Conan is coming out on the 360... And as of right now, who has the better online system?

I really wouldn't put it past LA coming out with Microsoft in the next few months pushing a few new titles on the 360, and pushing all the Star Wars Movies coming out on Xbox Live Marketplace... Still that is something to think about.

Really I think we'll hear something about this if there's an E3 this year, or sometime into the Spring/Summer. Still I get the feeling this 'new' MMO may end up landing on a console as well as the PC.

    Undoubtedly!

But that is what I find disappointing too. I don't think it'll have the elements of complexity that I'm looking for. I doubt it'll have the inter-dependency and community that made early SWG so great for me, and I don't think it'll bring anything new to the genre.
