It is undeniable we talk about very small company here. Not even the most rabid fan would deny that.
The game that started development 6 years ago - by today has such outdated engine that it can not stand nowhere near 2008 standards. Not in graphic, not in networking or in AI.
The game best chance (judging from its age) is to look something like Shadowbane or Asherons Call.

Asp obviously played technical demo of the game.
Just as information for someone not in the industry. Technical demo is something developed before actual game development starts. It is like "sketch" of how the game might play. Its use is to be shown to
investors.

If Darkfall would actually be released. It would be so under any expectations the community built for it over the years ...that the same community will BURN it in mater of days.

When I was at Rapid Reality, we had people come visit and play the game all the time. They all saw Technical Demos, that were the latest build.
While it's quite possible to throw together a quick and easy Technical Demo of a game in, say, Torque (as I did with my company), doing it on a server and allowing several people to play and interact with it is a completely different story.
One visitor said to me: "You should just release this right here." for our Tech Demo too.
EDIT: the one we showed them was being played by possible investors in another state at the same time, so there was a working server layer and it was played remotely.

I agree on the information being lacking but a dev journal every two weeks is hardly any hype. If you want hype, I suggest the AoC or WAR forums

The artice brought nothing new, just guesswork and shallow google investigation. Lobo inserted his own opinions as facts as usual, nothing new there.
You don't need a quality game to keep afloat. The chances as "rip it selves aport" is pretty remote. I mean, there are STILL people who are paying to play the beta known as Vanguard!. Why is that a bad thing? If they can bring back oldschool UO or do shadowbane correctly, then they can clone whatever the hell they want. Sadly, I don't see this game coming out at all.

And both UO and SB were point and click. DF is more a FPS. And that is a completely different gameplay. So there have not been anything in the MMO history with the same plans as DF.

Virtually complete game ? You mean beta since 2006, delayed 7 times complete ? You mean, limited "open" beta - please buy the collectors edition before you try it complete ? DF may indeed suck - that is why I will try before buy.

I'll gurantee you without a shadow of a doubt that Age of Conan , whatever shape it's currently in , is leaps and bounds ahead of Darkfall in every area possible..

Of course I expect no game that’s actually released or in beta will ever be able to compete with your hopes and dreams about Darkfall.
Until cold hard reality possibly prevents Darkfall from continuing to provide such a fertile subject matter for your imagination at some time in the future.

Of course i have to fantasize about that gameplay. Noone else is even trying. I had my hopes for AoC and WAR. Both had such high potentcial. Then i found out that WAR will have the same gameplay as WoW, i couldnt believe it. So all my hopes ended on AoC....wich sounded really good. But after every new bit of released information.....it seems to br the same old gameplay. Ok, they claim to have a "realtime combat system". And i really give them creds for that.
I hate to break it to you, but "real-time combat system" actually means "not turn-based." It isn't some revolutionary system they've invented for this one game... it's the same broken system we've been using for ten years.

AoC has target-seeking ranged attacks. Complete crap as far as I am concerned. Was the same as Tabula Rasa, claiming to have "FPS-like" combat. BS! No skill involved whatsoever. DF is the only thing (besides Chronicles of the Spellborn) trying to incorporate FPS into MMORPG.

A unknown team of handfull of people in Greece , with modest budget and no previous experience - making better game than a team of 150 people on a budget of 50 million dollars.

Perhaps if those 50 people with the 150 million budget spent more time developing their game according to their initial ideas instead of doing PR events every 2nd weekend they would have a better game than your typical cookie-cutter mmo. Lemme remind u they have been polishing their game since last august.

And believe me , good programmers will be where the money is.
If Darkfall actually have this genious programmers that can pull a miracle code they say they can.
After 6 years these people would get better offers. I remind you that company is in Greece , the living standards are not very stellar there. And a real GENIOUS coder (like the one making Darkfall , lets assume for humour sake) would be snatched by AUSTIN , or UK studio , with his salary trippled.
This genious would perhaps out of pure love turn down this offer.
But 6 years is a long time, and huge money loss for him...

Triple salary means nothing, not if your rent is tripled, the cost of groceries is tripled, cigarretes price is tripled, gas is tripled.
And since i am Greek retract your comment, its one thing to attack a company or an individual, its another thing attacking a whole country.
Darkfall has a small team with (at least) 20 million in funds. They have said over and over that funding is not a problem here. As it stands now, the -only- thing holding the Dev team from announcing a beta is the decision on how to handle publishing. They have had self-publishing in mind from day one, but if there is a better offer out there.. a better deal.. it is definitely worth investing time in. I stand by my estimate that we will hear a beta announcement before the end of May and release late summer/fall.
