Cheapest price for a CE or even the standard is at gogamer. But you ain't gettin' a bitchin' mount with the deal. And with shipping it's probably not much better than Amazon's price.

Warhammer will be exactly the same price for the collectors edition too : http://shop.gameplay.co.uk/webstore/productpage.asp?productcode=RM03398

To be honest I dont see the big fuss in price for the CE. Maybe i'm just used to paying 17.5% tax.

Damn dude your really bitter, you should take it easy, stuff are worth what people are prepared to pay for it!  Why do you think people pay fortunes for Comic Books, stamps and what not?
Whats 40$ for someone whos a lore person? Its what you spend in a saturday night partying or such!

If you dont want it dont buy it, simple! But its a valuable CE, the ring gives +stamina regen and +2% xp gainning, making your life easyer and making you getting faster to your goals i guess.

I wont buy  the CE  but i wouldnt bash people who buy it.

I was on the fence whether to buy the CE edition or not mainly for the drinking cape.  I know the clan of conan is supposed to get one and I am member so the other stuff was just so-so. Tthen I came across a $100.00 girt certificate so I figured why not I can easily spend $40.00 going on drinking in one night.  If these game keeps me in just 2 nights lol it has paid for itself.

I just ordered some conan books from Amazon so hopefully I will get a chance to read those and the rest of the stuff art stuff will mean more to me.

It's kind of lame though for people who don't want to spend the extra money
It's completely lame to offer in game advantages to entice preorders or collectors' editions. It's RMT sponsered by the developer, plain and simple.

I will not be playing AoC when the developers demonstrate this kind of mentality of creating an imbalanced level field from the start.

    I pre-order three CE's.

If enough consumers support that model, then yes...probably.

A company only cares about what you think is 'right' when they start to lose $$ over it.

Everyone is acting like these types of promotions are new, they are not. They have been around for a while. You as a consumer make a choice, and we all have the same choice. You buy it or you do not. No one forces you to. Now if you do not purchase the collectors edition and you are jealous over the items others receive I would suggest that you consider your priorities in life.

It is a game. But it or do not. Purchase the CE or do not. It is really that simple, and getting bent out of shape over it makes no sense.

As to item malls these too exist in mainstream games. I personally do not approve of them. You know what? I do not play those games. It is my choice. I do not begrudge anyone who does, nor do I cast aspersions on the companies that run their games with this business model.

I have to this day NEVER bought a collectors edition for any game. I simply could not justify spending the additional money for in game items, or for the promotional items. I will admit however that this time around I treated myself to the collectors edition of Conan. I am looking forward to the art book, the cd, and the DVD. Each of which to me as a fan of the genre and of the lore are nice treats to be able to have. The in game items are nice also. Never having to pay for an in game drink in a tavern? Bonus! Cool mammoth mount that saves me some grinding of cash later? Sweet!

I made the choice and I was willing to pay for what I wanted.

If you are not there are plenty of copies available at the standard pricing, as well as some other nice promotion ideas out there. Either way I hope you enjoy the game and are satisfied with your purchase. I know I am.

I don't usually purchase collectors edition items as a rule as they can often be over priced for what you actually receive...however I am looking forward to Conan a lot and have pre-ordered the collectors edition..

Guess that makes me a hypocrite but hey!

It depends on how fun the game is.  If this game turns out to be the best thing since sliced bread, I would pay for the extra stuff and the CE.  If not, no thanks.

    QFT.

Seriously, if you are willing to spend more money, do it. If you are not, just don't. The fact that people are crying about the CE costing that much more just shows they are not willing to pay for it because in their eyes, the whole thing is not justified. That is their decision and I make mine for myself. If you don't want to pay the extra bucks, don't. It's not like you'll be cheated of the game (no, not even the 2% XP ring changes that, because let's face it, 2% is a laughable amount most of the time and doesn't significantly change levelling times).

Sad but true. Guess we can choose which company we support by buying/not buying their products though.

I dont see why not.. its not the in game bonus, its the (in the case of the one i got off gamestop anyway)

    - Hand-Finished Collectors Edition Box

    -Hyborian World Faux Leather Map

    -Unique Bonus DVD

    - Five Free Guest Passes

    That justifies the extra cost.

The mount is a bonus for preordering, not for the CE. You get it with the regular preorder version too, according to gamestop's site.  After reading some of the above posts, it occurs to me that some people seem to be completely off the ball as far as what the collector's edition is.  Sure there's some ring item, but the cost is for the above goodies, not for some in-game gadget.

Some of the above posters should feel pretty stupid right about now, getting all angry or irrational over something they got wrong in the first place?

Now if only they added "access to beta" to the list, since hey, we already 'bought' the game, why not let us get in early to get an idea of how it works etc

FWIW, I like the little collectible figurines that are included in allot of collector's editions. I would be more inclined to shell out the bucks for the AoC CE if it had one of those. As far as maps go, back in the day, every RPG worth a damn (CE or not) would have a high quality map included. Conversely, in-game items are kind of a rip off, it's not like they cost the company anything. I want something tangible. I like the pre-order mounts though: they aren't version specific, they already exist in the game and it's more than fair compensation for letting Funcom know how much real interest exists for the game.

I wish i knew you in real life so i can rip you off all the time and say its only a few extra bucks.

the mount is for PRE-order, and the rest is for the CE itself when purchased at retail. i think $90 is a bit overpriced, but vanguard was $90 as well and that game was total crap and in a unplayable condition almost and still is a year later. however i think AOC will be far different. i think they offer a pretty sweet deal

    Pre-order in game special mount

     bonus dvd,

    leather map

    hand finished collectors box

    in game ring item

     guest passes,

sound tracks. i think that is prett solid offer for $90. would i buy it? im still on the fence, but im more likened to it, than i was with various other CE'd games. there is quite a few that i saw that i just completely bypassed. also being a big conan fan this will be a nice collectible to have on my computer desk while i play.

I'd save your money and go out to a nice restraunt instead of buying the CE edition.  I have a problem with games that release special in-game content for CE editions that allow for a disparity between players that buy the CE and the one's who don't.  I have no problem with items that don't make a difference and are just cool to have or rare in nature, but I don't think the mount idea is fair.  I like to see a game start with level playing fields on release.  90 bucks for a game that is suppose to already have a high monthly fee is something I'm not willing to consider, but to each his own.

  • TordakTordak Member Posts: 285

Hmm, Worth it?  Not sure, but I'm getting the pre-order CE all the same.    I want  the ring and the extra stuff will be interesting during any  server downtime.
