I stumbled upon this thread on the official forums complaining about gamebreaking bugs. I recognized several of them from when the NGE first came out. Now being completely honest, what other development team allows bugs of this magnitude to remain in their game for more than two years?
One of the bugs is with the instant travel vehicles where they become completely unusable for long periods of time for no reason. Can you imagine if hearthstones in WoW were this bugged? Blizzard would jump on the problem immediately and it would be fixed in a matter of days or even hours. SOE? Two years later and people are still reporting it.
There are widespread reports of groups not being able to enter the instances on mustafar making that content virtually nonexistant for the population. Can you imagine in WoW if groups couldn't enter any instances in Outland? Would the Blizzard devs post on the forums that it's just too hard to figure it out and they want to focus on new content instead?
Does anybody at SOE even care about SWG anymore or has it just become a training ground for their "developers" to get some experience before moving them to games that SOE actually invests time and money into?

Calling the nge Dev's a Development team is incorrect , they are more a baby sitting team , or more to the point a Palliative Care Unit .

1 grow or cause to grow and become more mature, advanced, or elaborate
Well seeing as they've added lts of stuff (causing it to grow), and added new systems, and diversity with expertise, BM, RE system etc (becoming more mature and advanced); i would have to conclude that you are incorrect yourself.
Btw, i dont need to hear "oh but Pre-Cu was so much more mature etc etc" while its true in many senses, ive heard it all before and regardless, it is still a Development team.

No part of that definition mentions improving something or in any other way making it better.
Cancer and mold grows. Wine matures into vinegar, and women "mature" as they get older.
None of that "new" stuff is really worth anything, unless you enjoy mindless grinds.
RE system? Big, big grind to get +35 bits. Both for the combatant and crafter.
BM system? Neither as good as CH or BE of old and a huge, huge grind to get any of the highest quality pets.
GCW? That's the grind for professional grinders. And, it killed all PvP outside of Restuss. No one even duels anymore.
Collections? The very definition of almost meaningless grind. Kill how many Krayts? Rancors? Dumb.
Heroic Instances? are fun, once. When you can find enough people for a group. When you can find people mature enough to not ninja-loot everything. Which is practically never with the current playerbase.
It is more a damage control team, like when the Navy ship gets bombed, torpedoed, stomped on by $medzilla, and left a burning, leaking hulk. You get a few people whose job it is to keep the ship from sinking, and not anything more than that.

^^Amen!
saay
Placing manure on plants makes them grow/develop the same can not be said for placing manure on SWG you just end up with a well for want of a better word the nge :P
cheers
Saay I noticed you completely ignored the original post. Care to comment on that?
Reality check???
Yep, old bugs still there. The perma incap thing sucks, had it happen once during one of the biggest PvP events our server had. Missed the whole thing cause of it, lol.

It's funny to me cause the official forums are sounding a lot like it was pre-CU, and look how that turned out.
I guess it's true that the more things change the more things stays the same.

RE system - well it adds something for crafters to do, it susbsitutes the old CA/AA system, maybe not as well, but they are very different, and adds a new layer, increasing diversity.BM System - I can understand if you dont like it but at least its the sort of thing, players wanted; a system that was diverse, and rewarded those crafters with the best resources, and time taken. The grinding is a bit screwed up, but the actual combat etc is good, so its a matter of opinion, quite alot of people like it and
GCW - no one duels? where'd you come up with that lol? well it rewards people for pvping and obtaining again, it adds diversity, instead of just fighting a BH, you might end up fighting a BH and his narglatch etc etc.kills, those who dont want to, dont have to. There are some pretty cool rewards and stuff, which still arent successful and on my server at least, there is still action elsewhere than restuss.
Collections - cool rewards, some you end up doing just by playing the game, whether its grinding or looting etc, dont see whats wrong with it. Many people kill krayts for fun or for the loot, whats wrong wth giving them a reward after they've managed to kill so many?
Heroics - im always able to find enough people, and if you dont like ninja looting, try putting loot on random or master looter. And they are fun more than once at least to some people - doing them different ways and with different groups is always interesting. You cant really blame them for adding such content, any content like instances will get old after a while.
Smg: do i have anything to comment on the OP? no, hence why i didnt.
yea that sounds realy great saay
but thats not all
in fact it is so thrilling, challenging, intresting and incredible beyond a possible describtion
that the paying custumers prefered to play this gem of software afk
ignoring the fact that afk playing this game (is someone playing if he is afk ?) was a reason for suspension and account banning
and the quality work from the swg dev team introduced not only one or two or three players
to the joys of afk .. no it were so many (considering the status of server population few would be more correct) that soe had the choice of either changing their afk policy or anahilating the rest of their playerbase
so yes the swg dev team did something wonderfull
they managed to create a new comunity in swg with a strong feel of connection to eachother
the afk comunity ... very impressive
btw. that they feel a strong connction to eachother is just a suggestion from me ... they dont talk very much

Smg: do i have anything to comment on the OP? no, hence why i didnt.
Yeah, it's all wine , roses and excitement.
RE system: I took the time to read all the guides, use all the hints, and to get a single +35 bit, took me 4 days, over 200 REs, plus the time and expense to get a decent luck suit together to help with the process. Except for the fact that I wanted to see how long it would take, I would not have bothered. That's how much of a grind that is.
BM system: I conned a friend to come back for the vet trial, he was one of two legendary BEs from the time when this game was good. I opened my resource depot (with over 150 mil units of everything) gave him free run plus 200 million worthless credits to get what else he needed. He read all the guides, the boards, and the whole deal. He needed to respec about 3 times to get it right and after 10 days he was barely able to come up with a high end pet. System is garbage, and like the RE fun fest, a huge boring grind. Is it a mystery that so many people don't play crafters when this is the "new" content for them hmmm? Straight up sucks, and if that is what people want, then SWG is plenty sucky for you.
GCW: From everything I saw on three servers, all PvP is done in Restuss. I never saw a single duel anywhere else. On three servers, in mos eisley, theed, and everywhere else I looked. Not a single random duel. Not one. Why? PvP is all about the 3Bs now..... Buffs, Button mashing and Boredom. People don't PvP because it isn't fun and has no purpose, except for GCW points and the occasional BH mission. In the old days, even excepting the show off jedi, PvP was EVERYWHERE. People wanted to try out new builds or take part in a huge battle, or hold down the Theed or Coronet starport as long as possible. Now? Nada.
And that is on top of seeing next to no one in Restuss. Need to be other players to PvP. The only time I ever saw more than 10 people was at a GCW base bust exploitation fest. Now that is something to be proud of.
Collections: A bunch of new shiny baubles to keep the target audience playing and paying. Pure, mindless grind, based on hype, and the guilability of players and inability of the devs to come up with anything innovate or creative. Just tons of crap to collect to take up space in your house. Yeah, nice.... enjoyable... TIME SINK.
Heroics: On the three servers I have 90 level toons, I was able to get in one group of 8, one time. And do you know what happened to that heroic instance? We couldn't finish it because it was bugged. Nice new content there. All the other times I was in a group to do them, about 12 or 13, never had a full group and ended up not having enough DPS. Whoopty freaking do. This is what you are so excited about? Please. Not enough people are playing. Period.
And then we have the overall state of the game. What is the thing that SWG is lacking most? The accessibility it used to have. I went on a guild hunt on my first day in SWG and PvP'd on the second day. Nancy "too much reading" Mcintyre stated in her infamous statement that they wanted people to be able to get into the game immediately, and the "kill, loot, repeat" that is the heart of the NGE.
Now, a player cannot even take part in a majority of the NGE content until after level 90. Big Grind. Oh wait, now you need good armor and weapons and everything else, so you have to grind to get the 100 million credits, Bigger grind. Want to PvP now? Now you have to run a ton more quests, many of which you can no longer do solo or with a partner, to get the stuff to be PvP viable. Grindie Grind. And THEN you have grind a bunch of the new heroic instanced garbage to get the buffs those offer, that other people have. And THEN you get to grind the GCW, which is the worst of all.
Do you seriously expect new players to do this? No wonder the devs are allowing AFK grinding now. Pathetic. What kind of company allows that? Most games do all they can to stop people from that. Not $oe.
I saw all of this during my vet trial, so I don't care what it is like on your server saay, because it is like this in plenty of others.

You're doing it wrong. i can russle up +35 bit in about 5 minutes, maybe less, it takes me about 10 minutes to get the junk for it.
BM system: I conned a friend to come back for the vet trial, he was one of two legendary BEs from the time when this game was good. Straight up sucks, and if that is what people want, then SWG is plenty sucky for you. The whole point is that it includes different trader proffessions, so all have a part and consumables to make money off - the system is pretty good, gives alot of chance for customization, and there isnt a "i want an uber pet" button, sorry.
GCW: From everything I saw on three servers, all PvP is done in Restuss. I never saw a single duel anywhere else. On three servers, in mos eisley, theed, and everywhere else I looked. Not a single random duel. Not one. Why? PvP is all about the 3Bs now..... Buffs, Button mashing and Boredom well, thats not strictly true is it, otherwise alot of people wouldnt do it - its about alot more than that. Not all my toons have +35 suits yet i stillv ery much enjoy pvping with all of them. People don't PvP because it isn't fun and has no purpose, except for GCW points and the occasional BH mission. Some find it fun, im sorry you dont, and GCW gave it a purpose, better than at the start of the NGE In the old days, even excepting the show off jedi, PvP was EVERYWHERE.
Now that is something to be proud of What server were you on?.

Pure, mindless grind, based on hype, and the guilability of players and inability of the devs to come up with anything innovate or creative. Just tons of crap to collect to take up space in your house. Yeah, nice.... enjoyable... TIME SINK.Not really a mindless grind, you go exploring and find bits, as i said, you pick many up as your play the game. People actually like new things, new art etc to decorate houses, and also useful combat things and abilities.
Period.
Sorry, that must be due to everyone leaving your server, ive never had an istance bug myself, neither has obraik i dont think. What exactly happened?
And then we have the overall state of the game. What is the thing that SWG is lacking most? The accessibility it used to have. I went on a guild hunt on my first day in SWG and PvP'd on the second day. Nancy "too much reading" Mcintyre stated in her infamous statement that they wanted people to be able to get into the game immediately, and the "kill, loot, repeat" that is the heart of the NGE. Fortunately, not anymore.
Now, a player cannot even take part in a majority of the NGE content until after level 90. Big Grind. The leveling system, i agree, definately needs to be addressed Oh wait, now you need good armor and weapons and everything else, so you have to grind to get the 100 million credits, Bigger grind lol, you dont need 100mil for armor, weapons and some basic buffs - and if you want money, there a plenty of ways to make it, that most wouldnt consider a terrible grind. Even so, in the end, most things in most MMOs are gonna be grinds.. Want to PvP now? Now you have to run a ton more quests, many of which you can no longer do solo or with a partner, to get the stuff to be PvP viable These quests are usually part of leveling, you talking about Mustafar? regardless, you dont neccessarily need these things. Grindie Grind. And THEN you have grind a bunch of the new heroic instanced garbage to get the buffs those offer, that other people have. And THEN you get to grind the GCW, which is the worst of all Grind heroic instances? how so, you go with a group, hopefully win, have some fun, and no matter what, you get a reward at the end, then someone has the chance of getting loot.
Do you seriously expect new players to do this? No wonder the devs are allowing AFK grinding now. Pathetic. What kind of company allows that? Most games do all they can to stop people from that. Not $oe. While im worried about the AFK thing, id like to point out to one of the otehr posters commenting on AFKing, that people wouldnt AFk the game if they didnt want to play it - they dont buy it play it AFK the entire time.
I saw all of this during my vet trial, so I don't care what it is like on your server saay, because it is like this in plenty of others. Unfortunately i believe it is like this on some other server,s thats why people are moving to about 6 or 7 servers which have traditionally been larger, more populated ones.

Not $oe.
I saw all of this during my vet trial, so I don't care what it is like on your server saay, because it is like this in plenty of others.
verb ( -veloped , -veloping )
You're doing it wrong. i can russle up +35 bit in about 5 minutes, maybe less, it takes me about 10 minutes to get the junk for it.
BM system: I conned a friend to come back for the vet trial, he was one of two legendary BEs from the time when this game was good.
Now that is something to be proud of What server were you on?.
TIME SINK.Not really a mindless grind, you go exploring and find bits, as i said, you pick many up as your play the game. People actually like new things, new art etc to decorate houses, and also useful combat things and abilities.
LOL saay
Try it. Click the link in my sig.
All the criticisms we have with the NGE you will experience within 1 hour of playing the free trial.
Hey Salvaje, i like your new 'thing', at least its more original than usual. Be sure to keep it up for a while though, im interested to see how long it take for someone to make a thread, saying they tried the game because of you and also quit, or came to hate it, in one hour. (no making other forum accounts :P) Not that many new players post (or know about) here, but the ones that have, as far as ive been here, have been fairly positive, certainly not /played1hr+quit.
The nge is its owne worst enemy , the truth is there for all to see .
Cheers

The NGE is it's own worst enemy. Now in my 1 hour claim, I should specify that I mean within 1 hour of leaving Tansarii and setting feet on the ground in the real game. If you proceed as the legacy quest line guides you, in that hour you will:
1. Get sick of the crappy combat UI with manual aim and nothing telling you how to auto aim/fire, and even if you figure out the UI doesn't support it very well at all. The NGE manual mode basically leaves you feeling like you need 3 hands. Firing of specials from the toolbar isn't even in the default UI setup. This is EASILY the weakest and most frustrating single deficiency in the NGE new player experience.
2. See melee mobs attacking you behind obstacles, and even at distances well beyond melee combat range.
3. Have stuff keep you in aggro infinitely, even if you aren't taking damage, and can't even see that mob. You have to wait until that thing randomly despawns or else log out and log back in. This has been a problem from the release of the NGE to now, never fixed.
4. Have stuff shoot you through walls, hills, mountains, rocks, speeders, trees, basically anything, while at the same time "CANNOT SEE TARGET" when you try to fight back even though you aren't obstructed. This has been around since the CU and never fixed.
5. Start to realize that the whole legacy line is nothing more but the same two basic quest tasks over and over and over (ie: go here, kill X number of Y, and go here click X, go there, click Y, etc).
6. Encounter early legacy quests that can't be completed without wandering Tattoine because they increased mob levels around Mos Eisley due to a poorly designed "scavenger hunt" collection.
7. Die because your heal didn't fire but went into cooldown.
8. Start to realize that this is a 5 year old game and there is NO excuse at all for any of the above to still be happening!
And I could list dozens more.
And I've not even touched on the fundamental flaws in the NGE, that being the level based loot treadmill, the uninteresting static classes that don't allow for true character customization, and the fact that Jedi is both obtainable on character creation and sucks.
I've tried many MMO's since the NGE came out. The NGE has easily the worst new player experience of any of them. The noob tutorial in EVE taught me the basics that I needed to know, stuff I've not since had to 'unlearn'. The NGE doesn't prepare you at all for how the game is optimally played. It lures players into thinking they are going to be in space, walking around stations, helping Han Solo out, talking to quest givers that have voice, etc, only to dump them on the ground completely unprepared.
What gave me the idea of linking to the trial in my sig and actually ENCOURAGING everyone to try the NGE out was going into a trial about a week ago as a noob. I'd forgotten just how horrible the default setups are, and how much worse than I think of it someone who DIDNT know, unlike me, how to basically spend hours modding the client and the keymaps/UI to be semi functional would have a terrible experience. Two and a half years later, the NGE still tells you from the start that, "This place is gonna blow".
So, in other words, just as I can continually use SOE's own statements against them, I can use the NGE against the NGE. It just plain sucks. Try it for yourself if you doubt me.
The NGE failed, not just because it pissed off the vets, was morally wrong, it failed because it pisses off almost anyone who even tries it new, even if they didn't know about the TOOW scam, lies, and history that led up to it. It fails on it's own merits because it is a bad design and isn't fun.

Whatever Salvaje, fact is most of the newbies who've come onto this forum have given positive reviews and continued to play; yes the leveling system and grinding is IMO the biggest problem for the game, but boy do exaggerate some of those things above! lets just see how long it takes yeah? that'll be the real proof. Im hoping they'll address leveling at somepoint too.
Where are all these newbies people keep talking about?
As far as I can determine the servers have not increased in populations for quite some time. If you're right in that there are all these new people coming into the game then they must be replacing exiting players.

They all play spy, so they are cloaked, you just can't see them.

You didn't dispute a single one of those points. Why? because you know they are true.

The server selection screen isn't really a reliable way of checking server populations...

Why not? I think it's pretty accurate when it's viewed over time - at least to show relative consistency.
Remember that the server levels go very light, light, medium, heavy, very heavy, and full. I think that that breakdown can give a reasonably accurate account of the numbers of new subs as the difference between, for example, medium and heavy shouldn't be such a large amount. Especially once people take into account what a "full" server is. I think people can definetely make a reasonable assumption there.
Remember that people are claiming that there are so many new players. This evidence supports the idea that either there hasn't been that many new subs, or a balance has taken place between exiting players and new players.
Of course the numbers aren't 100% accurate - and they don't have to be becasue it's all relative. And relatively speaking it seems as though the game has a stagnant population.

Only SOE knows the true values and TBH, I wish they'd just publish those numbers so the debate can end.
Firstly, my memory's a little blank on this but I believe it's been stated that the maximum capacity of a SWG server is 1500? With there being 6 load ratings (Very Light, Light, Medium, Heavy, Very Heavy & Extremely Heavy), would it be safe to assume that we can divide that total by 6 to break the different ratings into population numbers? So, 1-249 for Very Light, 250-499 for Light, etc.
The reason I don't think load ratings are a reliable figure is that they're based on a trigger point. using the above numbers for this example, Server A could be on a Medium load with 500 people one day, but a month later it could have 740 people and still be on a Medium load. Of course, the opposite could happen too.
