Real life is not WOW So no you would not be running and jumping in a gun fight in real life. If you ever served in military you would know the diference between John Woo film and real life gunfight. And jumping and strafing , and running in sword fight would result in cut of legs. Again. You both post about great advantages of strafing and jumping , and you even do not try to hide that you base this experience on WOW gameplay mechanic. (and on CS gameplay - also known as Bunnyhopping)
I just hope AOC will be more realistic.
There are no real secrets about AoC close combat anymore.
Movement is WASD (or cursor keys for some of us)
Double hitting a WASD key makes the char jump a bit back, forth, left or right. This is how to avoid manually. Probably there is the ability to duck too.
"Auto-attack" (note the quotes) are 3-5 directional hits
Combos are on your hotbar. Once you clicked a combo an icon pops up on screen that shows you which of the directional "auto-attacks" are able to start the combo.
There are keys to activly control your shielding. But i dont see how this will have any impact in combat except for one-on-one duelling PvP. While PvE or mass combat PvP most people will leave this at balanced (one left, one right, one top). Maybe tanks will learn about the scripting of different PvE mobs and change their shielding if the mob is known to hit from above for example.
The player skill is not to be a keyboard wizzard, its about memorizing your combos. Its useless to start a combo that need hit-left to go off while your enemy is left fully blocked (3 shields). Player skill will be to know which combo to use in the right moment or to know the enemies combos and use your shielding accoding to your knowledge of the enemies combos.
Kiting and coptering will use stamina. Those strats wont live long in AOC. The little jumps to left, right and back will be the main defence. Players will change their position a bit, but it wont be like you have constantly re adjust your cone of view.
just my 2c
Apparently if the stamina is used then moving and combat moving will be probably two different issues kinda. I guess the combat will look more like a typical fighting game ie Soul Calibur, with the double tap sidesteps, combos and whatnot, instead of being more tombraiderish like wow. That is not a bad thing and I always wondered if it was meant for gamepad usage, since its coming to the 360 too, maybe I will find out that gamepad is the best method of control for AoC in the end. But I guess circle strafingwill be there anyway, at least I circle strafe even in Soul Caliburs, avoiding vertical attacks and narrow cone horizontal ones while using wide sweeping horizontal arcs. I really look forward to trying it tbh.

You lost me when you started to use word "whining" People that use this word in forums are automatically considered immature.
And yet the only person who is acting immature in this thread is you. There is no reason for you to complain and whine and insult wow to make a valid point. If you're unable to strafe I highly recommend not playing any western mmo's or any fps games.
I think you're one of the first people i've ever seen complain about moving in combat. I can understand 10 year old kids hopping around and doing random movements for no reason, but you're talking about strafing and using it as a strategy to reduce being hit, which is fundamental in all FPS games and most western mmo's.

Had I the heavens' embroidered cloths, Enwrought with golden and silver light, The blue and the dim and the dark cloths Of night and light and the half light, I would spread the cloths under your feet: But I, being poor, have only my dreams; I have spread my dreams under your feet; Tread softly because you tread on my dreams.
Damn shame what this tread turned into. The moment i read words like "whining" , "you have no skill" I know yet another tread has hit rock bottom. Enjoy the spoils kids
English is not my language and probably i wasnt able to write what i thought.
I used the word whining. The context of this was, that a lot people think AoC will be FPSMMO combat. I am quite sure it will not be as fast paced as some people think. It will be a fast group play in PvP and PvE, but not really FPSish. Thats why i thought there will be a few threads after release whining that AoC is not a FPS game. Trust me, my 8ball never fails :P

We will see. One dev said in an interview that movement is using stamina. I guess attacks need stamina to be executed. If you are out of stamina you cant fight anymore... that sword is getting heavier and heavier The dev said something like you are doomed out of stamina. I think this is to prevent rangers/casters have a massive advantage over melee fighters. They may kite for a while but are oom at some point and the melee class will come for them and rip their head off :P
There are other things to see after release. Polearms for example have a 120 degree cone and swords or daggers a smaller one. If some one starts to copter you, you proabably get out your polearm. There is a chance he cant copter fast enought to avoid the 120 degree cone
