World of Warcraft has Murlocs, other MMORPGs do not.  That is the only reason.

Still waiting for your Holy Grail MMORPG? Interesting...

When i tried WoW for a while i thought it was a polished game. Didn't hit any bugs, music and sounds was decent, nice amount of content, but there was absolutely zero fun.

I can't see the fun in ''Go Kill X of that and get Y of that'' , and the community was pretty poor, but i've seen worse (Runescape etc.)

Don't get me started on the PvP ...

And raiding might be interesting the first few times, but it gets very boring and annoying after a little while, and it feels more like work then fun.

I'm not saying WoW is a bad game, it's a decent game, just might not be my style, i deffiantly cannot see how people can find Go kill X of that and get Y of that fun, and get addicted to it.

Sadly, there is not a lot of good alternatives out there ... (Guild Wars, LotrO, EvE maybe...)

Name me one game that does not have quests/missions/jobs. Name me one game that does not have grinding. You won't be able to because ALL MMORPG's have grinds and quests that have us "go kill x" and "collect y that" and "fetch such and such" or something else. WoW is no different in that respect and neither is any other MMORPG.

You are certainly the odd man out and different from the millions of hack-n-slash (diablo, wow, champion of norrath, ....) fans would love nothing but to go kill x and get y.

I have played a lot of MMORPGs ... Nothing has the immediate and lasting fun factor of WoW.

Other games try to use "difficulty" (which is actually just time sinks, as even the most hardcore games like Vanguard involve less reflexes than WoW) to differentiate themselves. I just don't get it.

Lets use VG as an example, because it's like the polar opposite of WoW, and VG players will always tell you how easy WoW is.

VG Raids are a fraction of the complexity and interestingness of WoW raids. VG PvP doesn't exist. WoW has very, very difficult high end PvP and very, very developed end-game raiding.

Yes, it's easy to level to the gap. Players from "hardcore" games hate that. They spend a good portion of their life elevating the number that comes after the word "Level" and hate games that dare let leveling be fun and relatively quick.

World of Warcraft is like Celine Dion.

    - Easy to listen/ get into

    - Polished to please the mass

    - Incredible marketing scheme

    - Like the manager of my band would say.... attract the girls, guys will follow. WOW has a high number of girls and that keeps the micro communities tight... AS SILLY AS THIS MAY SEEM

    - Blizzard worked 10 years to get where they are. This is exactly Celine Dion, Metallica... they each had a good following to start with but on their 10th year, The black Album came out and WOW is blizzard's black album.

    - The product in general is polished

    - Solid art direction no matter how much you hate the graphics.

    - Enough feature addict anyone that plays it.

    - Best of all features... While it doesn't please everyone, WOW is a mixt of what worked the most in every MMO.

    - Linear gameplay... People in general prefer to follow a story then create their own. If you go to a park, you'll quickly notice that the kids will play with everything except the sandbox (IN GENERAL)
