Got HACKED then Banned.... WTF

Well I was hacked in Dec. and immediately notified my account had been reactivated after not being used for several months, so I log in and sure as hell I find some dumb-ass credic ard info, So I change my password and notify Blizzard. I checked in a couple times to make sure said dumb-ass hadn't hacked back in, but never played. Now I am informed that dumb-ass is disputing the charges on his daddies credit card and they are "charged back' to Blizzard who in tum has locked my account and wants me to pay for the 1 month of unused service. Oh well... I guess I should have went shopping on that guys credit card!!

But remember to check that your antivirus program and firewall are working, that all your programs are updated, and run a full scan with the antivirus program to make sure that you don't have the keylogger wich stole your password on your computer any more.
Other advice than that I really can't give, since you are right in that you shouldn't have to pay for service you never asked, and Blizzard is equally right in that you are responsible yourself for your account's security and that they should recieve a payment for the services they provided to that account.
EDIT: But keep complaining to Blizzard a little before paying, unless you think that it's not so large amount of money it'd be worth it. /EDIT
EDIT2: I just read your post on another topic, in there you say

In that case, what is the problem. If you want to play, you just pay the normal fee, and go on playing. If you don't want to play, then you don't need your account either. I think Blizzard's offer to you sounds very fair. /EDIT
Problem is I don't want to play, BUT I would alos like to have the option if later I want too... That was the agreement we worked out. So I paid the month I was hacked and in turn I will get one month free.
When I was hacked I didn't even have WOW on my machine, infact I had done complete system install in Oct. and was hacked in Dec. All of my log in info was changed the day he hacked me.
It's all good.now...Just sucks to have to submit to some shit head who hacked my account.
I call bullshit on ur whole story tbh. If your account was hacked they would have changed the email address, so you wouldnt have even received any email that your account was reactivated, and they dont send u emails to say that ur account is reactivated. U think a hacker donst change the info? why in the hell would a hacker log into ur account and not change the info, and also add his credit card info to the account lol? Your whole story sounds wrong to me tbh.
I think you sold ur account to someone, decided u got bored and tried to take it back thats why the other person is disputing, u think a hacker would dispute it?

Same thing happened to me i get an email saying my account was comprimised i send an email back to them and they say my account and email dont match yet they sent the email to me and now i will never get my account back. I refuse to buy the game again i refuse to give Blizzard $15 a month and tbh i will never play any of there games again. Worst staff ever.
same thing happened to me, i got hacked and i called blizzard in 2-3 hrs to report the situation, my account got restored everything was fine, to further pursue the hacker i called the customer service and asked for the IP of the hacker since some1 else's credit card was charged to pay monthly fee, and i was doing that as a favor to help out the guy to find who stole his credit card. Blizzard refused to give me the IP address and then i got banned....
They have the worst customer service ever, i understand they are frustrated about all the 12 year olds crying about their hacked accounts but thats no way to treat an adult or a paying customer. I am done with blizzard MMO's too with this kind of customer service.
I really think they like doing this so people will go out and buy the game again and they make more money because of it meanwhile they claim to have all those subscribers and im pretty sure half of them are banned accounts..
Lol well Blizz has 10 million people to take care of, individually we're not special. Sounds like big BS by Blizz though, but I liked the perspective from Blizz's point of view. You're supposed to take care of account security so they feel like they need payment for a month of service they provided, doesn't matter to who they provided it to.
Life sucks, screw big business! Lol.

Something like this happened to me a few months ago. I hadn't logged into the game for about 2 weeks.
I'm at work and I get an email(forwarded to my pda phone) that my password has been request to be reset. Then 5 minutes later I get an email saying I'm under a 72 ban for inappropriate behavior. So I reset my password 2 times and when I finally log in my lvl 70 rogue is dead in Shadow Lab. I go back to town and start looking through my stuff. Everything is there and I even have a different amulet. Before I had 375 herbalism/alchemy, now I had 375 herbalism/mining.
I also had a ton of successful auctions in the bank, by the time I cleared out the emails I had about 800 gold. I checked my other lower level characters and one of those had a ton of auction emails as well. By the time I cleared him out he had about 1000 gold. My friend had tried to call me a few nights earlier because he saw my characters online but they wouldn't respond. He got one to respond but the person asked him for gold, he told the guy to call his cellphone and the person logged off.
I guess I was lucky because I keep hearing when you get hacked you get back into the game naked with nothing left. I must have reset my password just in time. Finally I just felt it wasnt worth it to keep playing because the grind for items was getting annoying so I canceled my account.

Moved to new country and no internet at my place yet, played casually thru a local netcafe / gaming place once/twice a week.
I was away from the game 2 weeks in a row for work and I went to the shop one day, couldn't login.
Tried to retrieve "incorrect email".
I mailed Blizzard no help at all for 3 weeks..
However I found out that trying an old email and was indeed the one I used 2 years ago but still I asked Blizzard (even sent them photos of my ID etc.) to change it cause I stopped subscription to that email 2 years ago...
No help at all! I had to call back to my country to the ISP and thru their help my email address was still available but I had to pay some extra fees to get it (yeah I paid for fees + internet service in another country just to get to my WoW account since Blizz wouldn't help).
I am to blame for not updating however they could have helped anyways...
So uhm, I retrieve my user + pass and I login... Suprise ? Account is banned !!
I mail them and after 2 weeks they say my character was found exploiting AFK in BGs (yeah what a great reason to permanent ban a 3 year old account - punishment, sure...removing items...sure but cmon..)
I reported to them that I've been wanting help on my compromised account long before the date they stated the acc was banned...Then they asked me some information about acc etc. (usual stuff, CD key, real name etc.)... I provided everything including again digital photos of IDs even credit card used for payments in past... NO RESPONSE AT ALL.
I went to the shop after some friend suggested there could have been a virus or the guy keylogged his place + stole stuff and after some arguments he agreed for a scan. Turns out he did find some keyloggers / viruses on his computers...
I can't blame him for anything without proof but at least Blizzard should have helped. I don't really know what more they need me to do I was honestly "hacked" and the exploits were not done by me... But blah :P 1 month and a half now still nothing.

I play in WoW Europe.
My account was hacked 8 april, in which i notified blizzard, that the hacker was playing on my account, and that he would probably use hacks/cheats in my own account to gain money, and transfer elsewhere.
Funny thing is the hacker started to transfer characters to another server, i quickly change my e-mail password as i see it was compromised (lucky on this one).
so 3 days later, blizzard resets the password to my compromised email (lucky me i installed many securities programs and the hacker couldnt respond to my e-mail change of password). if my i hadnt change my password, the reseted password would had go straitgh to the hacker (even tough i had blizzard to send password to another e-mail, sended BI photos and license driver and Key from original game).
So after bein reseted i try to login only to see, that my account had been suspended, being incrimanted of violating game terms and the use of hacking programas and gold selling (LOL).
Blizzards says then, that, the hacker's procedure were my own fault since i failed to secure my account (if everything was like this in life, i would go steal some1's car to run over some persons i dont like only to find that the car owner would be the culprit:) )
After the suspension, i enter my account, only to find my Hunter, dead in Shadow Labyrinth. some of my chars were transfered, most of them were completely naked. i Lost everything that i had in 3 years of WoW.

You only get hacked if:
1. You visted gold seller site.
2. You are incapable of playing WoW without addons, and thus load your comp with crap.
It's your own darned fault, I've been playing WoW since launch, never been hacked, every one I KNOW that has been hacked had one of the two above causes for their being hacked.

There is a lot a person can do to protect themselves from keylogger hacks that can even be downloaded from a website (a few even don't even sell gold). Firewalls, virus software, be very careful what you download, and do'nt be one of those happy link clicker that has to visit every site posted on every forum.
But is it really necessary to attack the op? People make mistake, and believe or not there are a few that just have not had the time to learn the vast amount of knowledge that people like you take for granted. Never say never and be rest assured Karma has a way of kicking people in the ass, especially those that need it.
In case u dont know MR iplaywithoutaddonsleetzors, in End Game guilds such as mine, u're obligated to have atleast 3 essential addons. to manage your aggro mostly. my performance in a raid must be maximized in all ways, and well normally add-ons are necessary for it.
btw my trojan came from P2P.

Yeah, you NEED programs, you choose to put them on to make the game EASIER for you. I've raided, look my gnome up Veldaren, perenolde.So anyway, everyone of my friends that got a keylogger, got it from those "neccassary add ons to raid".
Way to go noobs. I still play like back in the day, EQ old school, no aggro meters, you played with skill, not based on a bar that TOLD you what was going on.

And that is an example of why the WoW community is the worse of all MMO's right now. This is the same community that shifted from EQ to WoW after they decimated the servers with its judgments, unnecessary criticisms, and its overall superior attitude that told you there were the best that has ever been (while in reality it was just the opposite).
But anyway yet another glaring example of fine community standards, take it from those of us that move away from this crap.........all in all your being banned from WoW was a good thing in the long run, I am just trying to put a positive spin on it.

If u are a healer than u need 1-2 more imperative addon. and no u cannot raid without them, if u say u can, u are totatlly clueless about the game u played. There's no endgame raider, that can call himself good in doing his jod, that doesn't use a minimal package of addons.
My computer was hit and my main was wiped out clean. Fortunatly, I belonged to a great guild who got me some equipment and gold to get me through while Blizzard investigated the hack. I read up about the IE flaw and switched to Firefox.
So, just going to gold farmers or addons are not the ONLY way to get a trojan keylogger. It wasn't the OP fault as you yourself can not pinpoint the cause of how he got the trojan.
