EIDOS, you have single handedly set up Funcom's AoC to be one of the worst launches ever in regards to AAA MMORPGs.
You have 17 different pre-order offers out there that we know of with Funcom's forum mods deleting/consolidating "help me" posts faster than Roger Clemens denying steroid allegations.
You have 2 different beta events being advertised at the same time and people don't know where to turn for help because Gamespot is a joke with very poor customer support.
You have no less than seven department store chains pointing their fingers back to EIDOS/Funcom because they have no clue what is going on with all the different offers.
You have the Gamespot garbage going on and people have to torrent for the PvP weekend event and needing 12+ hours to download and patch.
You have the official wording on Funcom's website saying you have to a member of Fileplanet to sign up for the May 1st Open beta, yet when follow the link to the Fileplanet website the word switches from member to subscriber. If a fine print sticky you've a Funcom dev admitting that yes you have to pay Fileplanet if you want a CHANCE at getting an open beta key.
And above all, you have successfully done something I never thought I would say. You have made Sony's Platform Publishing look professional compared to the diasaster you got going on with this launch. The sad part is, it is AoC that will pay the price because after launch, you'll be off to the next game. Funcom will be the ones to lose money off this disaster, not you.
Good job, EIDOS! Well done!

and they said POTBS launch was bad.......oof.....
Wow. Let's see there are beta events going on, and I think it has been pretty clear the difference between them. Your blaming Gamespot for what exactly? Is it because you don't know the difference between open beta and a PvP weekend? Your crying about a launch that hasn't happened yet. And your calling on failure because the open beta requires a subscription to website, which World of Warcraft also did, and we all know World of Warcraft didn't do well for itself
I seriously think a lot of you people sit in your basement all day trying to think up ways to get pissed off by a game that you don't own yet, haven't played yet, and using your own misinformation to reach silly conclusions.

First of all you arent paying Funcom for Open Beta, you are paying Filefront for their bandwidth and other services they offer.
I dont see anything wrong with preorders, Im fine with mine.
If you used Funcom downloader for PvP weekend you would have downloaded in 3-5 hours.
Patching takes no more then 10 minutes.
All your whines are futile.
talk to all the enraged soe haters who beleive sony launches every game to fail (bunch of nutcases)
but shannia does make some very valid points
I take it you never experienced the joy and rapture of Funcom's launch of Anarchy Online when it went live?

Missed that one, I'm afraid. Was way too busy with fantasy back in the day to worry about Sci-Fi.
But to the other guy who asked me what I'm talking about with regards to Gamespot. You have people on multiple forums including the official AoC forums asking where to download from because the gamespot download doesn't work. Funcom had to set up a torrent for them. You'd think Gamespot would make a big notice for the beta key winners saying, "We screwed up, you need to down load from xxxxxxx" But no, they have the link buried on their forums IF you can find it.

I had about a dozen people from my guild get accepted for this weekend. A bunch of us used a funcom downloader and got the download completed in 2-3 hours for everything. We had a few who went to Gamespot and it was a much slower download but they got it eventually. I haven't seen any confusion from my members about it unless whatever problem your describing has surfaced in the last few hours?

Bashing AoC? What the hell you talking about? I'm bashing the moronic moves by their publisher EIDOS and the publisher's partners. I hope the best for AoC. Only thing I don't like about the game is their crafting system. Funcom only gets ONE chance to make a first impression. EIDOS isn't doing Funcom any favors helping that impression right now.

Second. Do you know the diffrences between the 2 betas that they are advertising. No? then be quiet.
Third. If you are too broke to pay $2.99 for a beta, then find a job.
Oh i do not know? Maybe because AoC will be a decent game?

the question is how is gamespots issue a funcom issue? if funcom put up a torrent they are trying to correct whatever issues gamespot is having by providing another way to get the beta, what did you want funcom todo not put a torrent up?
A key you get from fileplanet if you pay to be a subscriber ? A key you need to "win" to get ? A key you probaby will not get because some other dude get because he signed up 3 secs before you ?
So you download a client you cannot use and then pay fileplanet for a download you don't need.
Clever

And when we got more women on the team, it was like No, no, no. We need puppies and horses in there.

I agree with Shannia, what on earth are EIDOS playing at?
I am very much looking forward to the launch of AoC & was about to pre-order the collectors edition earlier this week when I realised how many different offers there are in the UK for the standard edition, yet there doesn't seem to be any incentive to buy the collectors one!
Are EIDOS trying to discourage sales of the collectors edition or something, because if you buy the standard version you seem to get early access and a free mount (varies depending on seller), but if you pay double the price for the collectors edition you have to wait longer to play & don't get any free transport. Sure, you get the 'Drinking Cape' & the 'XP Ring' as well as all the goodies in the box, but that is what the higher price tag is for.
Now I am undecided as to whether to still buy the collectors version or just get the standard one & get to tour the world of Conan earlier on the back of my free mount. Where is the logic in effectively penalising the customers who want to pay more?
If you can't "Have your cake & eat it too", then how can "The proof of the pudding be in the eating"?
Take the Hecatomb? TCG What Is Your Doom? quiz.
Thats the problem...nobody should have to pay jack to test a game! There are tons of other sites you can use that don't require a paid sub to access High Speed DLs. Heck even 'surprise' 'surprise' Fileplanet can use the non-sub DLs which is still pretty damn fast!

Yet people still do pay to test the game...
maybe thats why they keep doing it!?!?!?!

Ok, before posting, I suggest you go back and read my open post. I salute Funcom for what they did by putting up a torrent for the PvP weekend. That isn't the point. The point is, EIDOS and partners of EIDOS, intentionally or not, are doing a great job of making Funcom and AoC look like crap. What is wrong as of right now, if you go to http://www.gamespot.com/, no where on their front page do they acknowledge they screwed up and provide a link to Funcom's torrent. You have to go searching deep on their website or go to other websites to get the right link. They left 15k PvP weekend beta key holders in the dark of where to go for help. The reason I say that is they failed to send out a follow-up email to key winners notifying them of the problem and where to go. That is evident from the verious threads on here, gamespot, and the official forums.

if you are an adult and you cant handle that then you have other issues than this game

you are not paying to test the game, you are paying to download the client from fileplanet, funcom has nothinig to do with that.

15k in the dark eh? Or just a handful that would rather put more effort into bashing then taking two seconds to search? Yes gamespots dl is awful but as soon as most people got a bad connection then went looking for a better one. A few decided to post tough talking rants on message boards because it requires less thought.
And again Id like to say that Fileplanet is a service. You are paying to use that service not beta AoC. If you pay just to beta AoC and never use all of the other features even a little you are missing out.
LOL probably some hacker already made your computer his b*tch because he or she placed a troyan in a torrent or two.

are you also one of those people who shouts "noone should have to pay to play a beta!" .... soe haters are notorious for that.
beta testing is supposed to be actual testing....why should i have to pay to beta a game? I have beta'd at least 6 games, and never had to pay. I been in closed testing on quite a few as well...to help sort out the technical aspects.
LMAO, i must admit I hate grumpy threads but this one has been rather amusing. I, personally, never have much respect for publishers, /CHOUGH SOE, but i could really care less about their advertising methods.
But like i said this thread has been amusing, especially you since you dont have the OMFG TROLLAGE VS. OMFG JUST GO PLAY WAR posts hehe. Good clean rabbles.
